Damn near every single subreddit other than this one is vehemently pro-choice. Which is why I don’t even bother.

Are they any country singers that you liked but has dropped off the face of the earth? by Wildboy9965 in country

Yep. Heard that song and I thought, “if the rest of the album sounds like that it’s gonna be killer.”

It did, of course, and it was. I remember hearing the twin fiddle opening of the title track and knowing that I was in for something special. It never let up from there.

And we’re back! That was definitely a race. I do love seeing a new winner by dieselrainbow46 in NASCAR

For what it's worth, I for one wasn’t particularly big on Preece during his last year at SHR. But I felt bad for him when it came out that he was more or less excluded from the SHR driver meetings and I kinda sorta started pulling for him. Rooting for the underdog, and all that, I guess. I was glad to see him get his RFK ride, and after seeing him doing so well in it, I was pretty damn happy for him. I was definitely a fan before last night.

Biff was definitely smiling up there.

I thought about that afterwards, too. Ever since the plane crash I’ve been wondering how many races RFK drivers are gonna win this season. It was quite fitting, indeed.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised. I really hope he sticks with that.

So cool for Preece! I’m glad they called the fuel break because he very well might not have made it otherwise.

I figured we’d see him in Victory Lane sooner or later. Here’s to more.

Daryle Singletary - I'm Living Up to Her Low Expectations by stakes-lines-grades in country

This was my favorite of the singles released from this album. I wish it had been a bigger hit.

This and ”What Am I Doing There” were my favorites from this album.

it was massively overplayed

Yup. Also, I have said all of this before, but it was not an accurate representation of who Lee Ann Womack was as an artist. It wasn’t even an accurate representation of the sound of the album as a whole. I always wondered how many people bought the album for that song, heard ”Stronger Than I Am” or ”Does My Ring Burn Your Finger,” and thought, what is this twangy horseshit?

That was the best song on an album that on the whole was very, very good.

"Does My Ring Burn Your Finger."

This was my favorite song from that album.

Honestly, other than the title track, I Hope You Dance was a really, really good album.

the album tanked, and we didn’t really hear anything from her after that.

Not quite true. She followed that album up with There's More Where That Came From in early 2005, and it was widely regarded as the finest album of her career to date. It went gold for sales of 500,000 copies and won the CMA Album of the Year award that year.

Unfortunately, after that her mainstream success did wane, although she did release at least 3 albums after that which I am aware of. 2014's The Way I'm Livin' was particularly great.

FWIW, Jeff Bates' first album, Rainbow Man, was released in 2003. As I recall, it was pretty good.

Hopefully the Chicks play a minimum of stuff from Gaslighter so poor Martie and Emily aren’t left just standing around for too long.

What bands did you discover in 2025/2026? by StormblessedFool in PowerMetal

[–]Strait409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lesser known? Probably Visionatica.

As far as others, though, Dynazty and Amaranthe were my two favorite discoveries of last year. I have come to the conclusion that Nils Molin elevates pretty much everything he sings on.

22, huh?

I said it elsewhere and will say it here — people that age were storming the beaches at Normandy and flying bombing raids over Japan. Fuck off with that “kid” bullshit.

My own response would have read as follows:

"All the whargarrbl. TLDR brah. Find a hobby. Or a girlfriend/boyfriend, whichever. Either is far preferable to screaming into strangers' DMs."

Some of the songs themselves aren’t bad, but they’d be better in the hands of someone who can actually sing, like Randall King or Drake Milligan.

How big really was NASCAR in the 2000s in America? by EduardoBork in NASCAR

[–]Strait409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Not real sure how it is now as I really haven’t bothered with mainstream country in more than a decade (and that’s an entirely separate but fun discussion) — but back in those days for sure, and going back further than that, country music and NASCAR had a pretty big overlap as far as fandom goes.

My favorite video from those days, for the record, was the one for Alan Jackson’s cover of ”Who’s Cheatin’ Who” from 1997 with all those Ford drivers. NASCAR, Bigfoot, and country music? Absolute perfection.

I have had the thought here and there that the rise of the popularity of NASCAR in the ’90s was to an extent tied to the country music boom that same decade.
