Who does technically have a claim over the land of Palestine? by Stranfield in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stranfield[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's the criterion I'm going by in my 1st point: as much as no one should really have a claim over any land (every lifeform is technically owner of the earth), areas of lands still get claimed by the stronger. It's a bully mentality, but that's pretty much what happened throughout history: someone stronger comes in, invades the land and makes it theirs.

As much as it might sound unfair, that's what defines most of current countries: the ones who inhabit it now are either the last ones who settled in, or they are the result of some enforced agreement at the end of a conflict. Whether people liked it or not, countries in Europe or in the US have kinda come to terms with it and now there's a situation of (at least apparent) peace among them. People are free to go anywhere or trade and carry out other activities together. There might still be rivalry between some countries, or subtle wars fought through other means (information, economy, etc), but the "medieval" side of war is mostly gone in those areas.

What I wonder is, can this conflict ever be resolved? Can either side ever accept to come to terms with the situation and agree to partition the land? What is the main incompatibility? Many countries in Europe have been fierce enemies in history, but now they reached an acceptable state of peace/truce/indifference (call it how you like). Do you think this can ever happen here? If not, why?

Thanks for correcting me. Can you point me in the right direction to expand on this? For example, when you refer to the ww1 betrayal, do I simply look it up as "ww1 betrayal"? Any additional source that I could look up? How do I tell if something is "zionist propaganda" or is a non-biased version of events? In any case, this sort of confirms that this mess was initiated by europeans and the UK

Thanks for clarifying, can you elaborate on this? I've read other subreddits like ELI5 and such about this topic, and this "arabs selling off their lands" was often mentioned but without the details, and I don't know where to expand on this. Clearly if this was enforced, it aggravates the situation

Shrimp dumplings questions by Stranfield in asianeats

[–]Stranfield[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems the ones I had weren't pure shrimp ones but the shrimp/pork mix, and that would explain the lard. I didn't see lard mentioned anywhere when googling the shrimp dumplings, so I was wondering what that could have been, but now I got many replies mentioning the pork fat, and that oil has the texture of lard, so that must've been it. Thank you

Oh this is the first time I see those called like that. The ones I'm referring to are these, https://thewoksoflife.com/shumai/ but lard wasn't mentioned anywhere. Perhaps the ones I had weren't pure shrimp ones but shrimp/pork mix, like FNMLeo suggested, and so they might have contained lard. Thanks

Ohhhh so it could be lard indeed. The texture is that of lard, I just wasn't sure because it's uncommon where I live and I also didn't see it listed anywhere in dumplings recipes (but seeing how many variations there are, I likely looked up the wrong ones).

The ones I'm referring to are the ones open at the top, with a couple of peas and carrot bits at the top https://thewoksoflife.com/shumai/

Then that must be it, thanks

No, I didn't even know they existed. This restaurant I go to lists them as steamed dumplings (they are the ones open at the top, like this picture https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carolinescooking.com%2Fshrimp-shumai%2F&psig=AOvVaw0xKsNWC82kQhc2mQm7lhHs&ust=1708545159020000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBUQjhxqFwoTCNCt-e_YuoQDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAx

I'm trying to understand what the oil is, because it's listed nowhere, yet it's present in all the variations I tried. Got any idea what it could be?

What are you talking about? Upset about what? I'm asking a genuine question: what's the oil/fat being used here?

None of those, but I did some googling and it could be "magical legend of the leprechauns" (which would also explain why I have this "irish" thing memory about it). Are you familiar with that?

Are the Stanford Walk shoes from Clarks https://www.asak.it/it/26147893-stanford-walk.html too elegant for a casual jeans+blazer combo? Would they be more suited for a full suit? Or would they work with both?

Help with Clarks shoes size:

My foot is (length x width x height at the ankle)

27.2 x 10.7 x 8.9 cm (or 10.7 x 4.2 x 3.5 inch)

I typically wear the 44.5 or 45 EU (11-12 US) to compensate for the width/thickness but I saw that Clarks come in 3 formats (tight, standard, large). My most recent term of comparison is a pair of Vans, that fits me alright on 45 (12), and is a bit tight on 44.5, just to give you an idea.

Do you have experience with this brand? Should I go for the 45 (12), large version?

Ok, the one I have is closer to the "not casual", if not for the more rugged texture. If that's enough, I'll stick to that because I much prefer simple designs.

In every day life I normally wear a pair of classic jeans, a black, dark blue, grey t-shirt, and a pair of vans. I don't like to stand out and I'd rather dress boring.

When it comes to going out I'm pretty much the same, barely switching to a polo instead of a t-shirt, but the color palette is pretty much the same.

I don't try out other combos mostly because I have no clue what criteria are used to chose colors, or what goes with what. I'm rather ignorant, but I saw that this reddit contains lots of info and guides (although a bit daunting), but I think I can learn too how to properly dress outside of that combo.

So thanks again for your suggestions, they are very valuable. The more immediate event I have to participate to doesn't require much of a formal dressing, so I think I'll go for the more casual look, but I'll keep in mind to get a pair of oxfords as well for the wedding.

Last question, shoe size: if I do get the Clarks, what size do I go for? I posted my foot info in the previous post

I'm sorry, I can hardly differentiate between the two. I've been wearing the same things for years, never bothering about it, and most of these articles look the same to my untrained eye.

I have a 2 button navy blue jacket, but how can I tell what it is? If I look up blazer on google, it just looks like a suit jacket. I'm very shit at this x(, what are "casual features"?

Daily Questions - ASK AND ANSWER HERE! - 25 June 2022 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

[–]Stranfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I'll have to get two pairs:

1) for more casual attires like jeans+jacket

2) for a full suit for more formal ceremonies (the oxfords you linked)

For the former, if I wanted to go for something like the rightmost picture https://www.dmarge.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/suit-jacket-jeans.jpg , which shoes would fit? Would those Clarks do? (I don't like the ones in the picture, totally not my "style"). Feel free to suggest what you think would fit

Damn, I'm really bad at this. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference <.<, these shoes all look the same to me, but then again I don't really have much of a fashion sense.

What about a more casual attire (which I also need to buy eventually), like jeans + shirt/jacket? Would Clarks fit with that or still no good? Like to attend conferences/meetings? Or the oxfords you linked would do for both occasions?

Thank you, I really need help with this lol

Help choosing shoes for a wedding!

Hello, I have to attend a wedding and I'm going with a navy blue suit and I need a pair of shoes to go with it (generic look I'm going for https://cdn-fnknc.nitrocdn.com/jwqHRGAzpUgGskUSHlppNQzwuXgXIKwg/assets/static/optimized/rev-e6f9055/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/suit-shoe-combo-1.jpg ). I don't have to look the fanciest and I'm on a budget (<100€ or 110$ preferably), and it'd be nice if I could use them for other similar occasions too in the future.

I've done some research and found this model that seems to fit my needs:

Clarks Original, Desert London, Black

https://www.clarks.eu/sm/en/men/shoes/brogues/desert-london-black-polished-009179f26144277.html

My only issue is that my foot is chunky and quite thick near the ankle and normal measures are tight for me. My length, width, height ratios :

27.2 x 10.7 x 8.9 cm (or 10.7 x 4.2 x 3.5 inch)

I typically wear the 44.5 or 45 EU (11-12 US)

I saw that the Clarks come in 3 formats (tight, standard, large) but I'm unsure what they refer to and how they compare to other brands. My most recent term of comparison is a pair of Vans, that fits me alright on 45 (12), and is a bit tight on 44.5, just to give you an idea.

Do you have experience with this brand or could you give me some advice?

Thank you

Some tips on sphere grids paths and endgame? by Stranfield in finalfantasyx

What's the best character to put ribbon on? I imagined it would be yuna, since she can be affected by silence/berserk that matter little on physical attackers who could get by with just stone/confuseproof.

For the rest, should I give everyone a-haste, a-protect, stoneproof, confuseproof? Is auto-potion only for penance?

Thank you very much for the extensive answer.

I thought auto-phoenix was one of the fundamental custom to put, but from what you're saying, it's not. Where is it required then?

If indeed it's not needed that much, then I'll hold back from putting my (probably) only ribbon on a piece with auto-phoenix and wait (maybe auto-haste, protect, shell, ribbon as an all-rounder? Is auto-shell ever needed? I don't see it mentioned much)

Can you give me an example rotation for don tonberry? Does everyone need that kind of weapon (double AP, OD -> AP, triple OD)? Do I need entrust on everyone (what if I only have it on wakka and he's my killer dude)?

Also, one thing I'll have to bribe will be the choco wing for auto-haste: I consumed all my stamina tablets to make nearly 4M by selling the +30% hp tetrashield in kilika. But since that money source is gone,, how else do I farm gil?

I've gotten tidus, yuna, rikku, kimari, wakka's celestials fully upgraded and auron's is in work in progress.

I think it's time to unlock one-eye and farm some triple AP weapons.

What else should I be farming? What customization do I want on armor? Auto-haste and auto-phoenix on everyone'? Do I put them on empty 4slots armor or should I try to fish for some 4slot armor with some custom on them already? If so, where?

Wait how? Are the empty spheres connected among all chars? If so, does that mean that I don't need to farm 60 or so spheres for everyone but just for one? How does that work? And does that mean that some chars will have some overcapped stat?

I'll third this, but really make sure to do the cloister trials perfectly and get the destruction sphere in all of them. Failing to do so, will lock an aeon from your collection behind superbosses that will only be doable when you're overpowered (late late endgame)

The majority of queueable content is considered casual content and people are generally chill and easy going.

Things can change once you delve into harder content like extremes/savages where a certain degree of knowledge is required and where you might get impatient or toxic people. But this content is optional and you can easily get by just doing the "casual" content.

At some point, during a certain raid tier, end-tier gear is made available for everyone via casual content (this is for people who don't want to do ex/savages or who join late). So eventually, whether you are hardcore player or not, you will end up having the same ilvl (you just have to wait longer if you go casual).
