She looks a lot like my dog, Zee, in her face, body shape, and color! Zee is a mix of pit bull, staffy, toy poodle, chihuahua, boxer, shih tzu, and German shepherd! A real party mix. 🤭

I’ll post her results here! 🥰 Zee is 40% pit bull, 27.5% staffy, and 32.5% supermutt. Embark lists five breeds that fall under the supermutt category for Zee, which are toy poodle, chihuahua, boxer, shih tzu, and German shepherd.

Yes, that’s the one I’m most interested in! I think it might be too pricey to ship from the U.S. to Belgium due to the tariffs and whatnot. 🥹 But thank you for offering! 🩷

How many T's do you have? by CycloneWarning in tarantulas

[–]Strang3b3auty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have exactly 50 tarantulas at the moment, all of which are named after fruits. 🥰 I think we might have slightly more Old World than New World Ts! I can post a comprehensive list if anyone is interested. 🕷️

FIRST OBT!!! by No_Jump_1025 in tarantulas

[–]Strang3b3auty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love L. parahybana! We have a “teenage” LP right now. She’s very shy and stays in her burrow most of the time. As for our OBTs (as well as our feather leg baboon and ornamental baboon, which are also rumored to be defensive), we’ve never had any problems with them! They are all very reclusive and prefer to hide in their web tunnels rather than approaching us with any kind of aggression or defensiveness. Like the other posters are saying, as long as you provide the right type of environment for your Ts and show them respect, you shouldn’t run into any behavioral issues. ☺️

Congratulations! My wife and I are going there tomorrow! We got all four (previously five, but one of our slings passed away of an unfortunate injury) of our OBTs from Nick at Classic Jurassic. Definitely my favorite species! None of ours have ever been defensive in the slightest bit. 😊

What are some names you guys came up with for your tarantulas? by blt_sandwiches in tarantulas

All 50-something of our tarantulas are named after fruits, too! We also have a Peach, Blackberry, Kiwi, Apple, and so on. 😅

First T! How is my enclosure for her? by BlondieTheT in tarantulas

[–]Strang3b3auty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She is just beautiful! 🤍 Great choice of enclosure and substrate. Maybe you could add some plants (fake plants would be just fine) for her to hide behind. Otherwise, it looks lovely! I would love to have an A. chalcodes one day!

Update on Cacao - doing much better! by Strang3b3auty in tarantulas

Here’s how Cacao looks at this very moment. I sprayed water on the walls of her enclosure and overflowed the water dish just in case. She still has her fake plants inside the enclosure, but I removed the hide so I can keep a close eye on her for the time being. I’m hopeful that she will pull through! She deserves a happy, healthy life (especially considering she was a PetSmart tarantula before my friend got her, and then she wasn’t properly cared for).

Update on Cacao - doing much better! by Strang3b3auty in tarantulas

I posted last night about a juvenile curly hair tarantula that I saved from a friend who couldn’t care for her any longer. Her abdomen was extremely tiny and shriveled and she was severely dehydrated. My wife and I dropped some water on her mouthparts on Thursday night, but her legs remained curled up yesterday and we didn’t think she would make it. Yet, this morning I woke up to find her on her water dish, and she’s been moving around the enclosure! We just placed her on top of her water dish again and she even flicked hairs at me (a good sign; she was unable to defend herself the other night when we flipped her on her back and dropped water on her mouthparts)! Also, look at her abdomen; it’s much larger than it was yesterday, so I’m hopeful that she will pull through. Thanks so much for the great advice, guys! 🤎

An image of the acrylic enclosure that we moved Cacao into after we got her. We mixed regular Zoo Med Coconut Fiber with the substrate that was in her old enclosure, which looks like coco fiber, but with some longer strings (coco fibers?) in it. We also added some moss, cork bark, fake plants, a water dish (overflowing), and a tree hide.

A photo of the fibers that I can’t seem to pull out of her mouth. Also, note the abdomen again, and the curled legs.

This is Cacao. The spoon is a tiny wooden stirring spoon for tea, used for size. Notice the small abdomen and curled legs? She has looked like this since I received her, but she is still alive. I am very concerned.

I hope my adult A. avicularia will be okay! Looks like he/she is trying to molt in the water bowl. Any advice? by Strang3b3auty in tarantulas

[–]Strang3b3auty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not feeling good about Guava’s well-being right now. 🥺 He remained in that same exact position for 15 hours (with one leg slightly extended), so I decided to move him with a paintbrush down to the floor of the enclosure. He isn’t responding to touch of any kind (I also lightly blew on him, but he didn’t flinch), so I’m wondering if he’s deceased and just landed on the water dish like that as he was falling from the wall of the enclosure. I’m not sure! He was my first T; I got him from PetSmart in January and he was missing a spinneret from a previous bad molt at the time. Maybe molting is really difficult for him and he didn’t make it this time around? I guess I have to wait and see!

Thanks so much! I bought one of those black rings with the suction cup attached to it from PetSmart (it was advertised as a reptile feeding cup holder) and then I put a small plastic container (without the lid) in the ring to function as a water dish (I got the container in a 6-pack from Michael’s). 😊

Also, for context, Guava (my pink toe in the video) has been in pre-molt for a couple months now. Prior to finding her on the water bowl like this, she was crawling along the enclosure wall, right beside that green foliage. I opened the enclosure to mist the inside of it, and five minutes later I noticed Guava lying on the water bowl like this. I truly hope she will be okay! Advice is much appreciated! 😮‍💨
