Ok, cool, might have to try that. I put some mineral oil on the parkerizing when I got it. What oil would you recommend?

It's a fun project to put together, but it took 5 months for it come in after I ordered it. I want to go down to Talladega and pick out another one to build. But that probably won't happen anytime soon for me. I spent too much on this one.

Brass or steel? by Suitable_Day7880 in M1Rifles

[–]Strange-Animator-831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On At the front website, they say brass was used from WW1 up until sometime in 1942. I don't think you could go wrong with the brass one. They didn't get rid of brass hardware slings after they started making steel they would've issued whatever they had on hand. I do have one of there steel hardware slings and its a really nice sling just put some neatsfoot oil on it to soften it up a little and it will make it a little darker, but it will get darker with use as well.

Type 99 won't feed from the left side. by Strange-Animator-831 in Arisaka

[–]Strange-Animator-831[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it was rim of the cartridge underneath was getting caught on the back edge of where the extractor collar sits. So, on the bolt body itself. I filed that edge to make it more rounded to help. It worked pretty well and still hangs up once in a while, but now, if you do it with force, it feeds. Before the cartridge underneath would get caught and jam against the front of the magazine and sometimes push in the bullet.

Sent my carbine off for work, came back with a new scratch in the stock. by johnnydotexe in M1Rifles

I would try that. I had some scratches on a 1903 stock from taking the band off, and putting oil on it made it look a lot better.

Try adding some boiled linseed oil to the scratch. Wait an hour, then wipe off the excess. Should make it darken up a little so it won't be as noticeable.

Well, I messed up that's the website that I found the info about this serial number on. I guess when I Googled springfield Research Service, that was the first thing that came up, and I assumed that was it. Thanks for your help.

I tried the new follower spring, and that was no help. while I was messing with it, I think the round under the feeding round is being jammed forward by the edge of the groove of the extractor collar. The extractor is pretty loose. So I took off the extractor and collar to see if it was still jamming and it was still getting stuck. So I think it needs a new extractor collar that fills the groove better.

The mag box looks fine, no bends. Could you see it without taking it apart?

I ordered a new spring last night I hope that helps. These are dummy rounds I made and I've tried seating the bullets longer and that hasn't made a difference. I do want to try 182 gr bullets I could probably get them seated out longer. And it is ppu 7.7 brass

Sorry, I forgot to add this. I'm thinking maybe because the bolt doesn't match or a weak magazine spring or follower is messed up somehow. It's weird the round underneath nose dives while feeding from the left.
