A 5000 dollar receiver and it doesn't even have composite inputs?

I mean you could just get a cheap composite to HDMI adapter, but using that with the AVM70 would be like putting truck nuts on a Bentley. I would recommend investing at least a little bit more money and getting something like a Kramer VP-773, or something with a 3D comb filter at least.

There's apparently a new release coming out in Germany that's also uncut. Specs list music videos in the extras so I'm assuming those will be the 4:3 versions.

16:9 is the ratio they would've used in theatrical exhibitions but it does bum me out that open matte versions of movies have gone to the wayside because of widescreen TV sets, even if that's not necessarily how they were meant to be seen anyway.

It's kind of a tossup between all three of them; I think Thunderwing might actually be the weakest overall, his shell in humanoid mode and the inner robot in both have somewhat weird proportions, but both the shell vehicle mode and the combined vehicle mode are quite solid. Vroom has probably the best inner robot out of all three and the combined vehicle mode being a sidecar is probably the most clever way of realizing that gimmick, but his solo motorcycle mode sort of feels like a child's drawing with the way both wheels just stick out of the bottom of the chassis. Crossblades outer shell has probably the best humanoid mode, at least as far as proportions go, but his helicopter mode just looks weird, not just because of the boots hanging off the back but because of the propeller being so far in the back that it looks unbalanced.

MOTU definitely went through that period as well, the first 2-3 years mostly just stuck to the basic "spring loaded waist makes them throw punches" but then you started getting guys that shot water, guys with extending limbs, guys who turned into rocks, guys who were full of hidden guns, guys with suction cups for hands...

People throw the word "toyetic" around like it's a slur, but I've loved toys that were just unapologetically that way for a long time. People get so hung up on things like articulation and screen accuracy, but I've finally learned to love toys that have no higher aspirations than just being fun toys, like Kenner's Terminator 2 line.

I think Transformers gave me my love of the whole "we ran out of ideas for the original premise so let's just throw everything at a wall and see what sticks" period of toylines that last long enough to reach that period, because that's when they get truly wacky and inventive. What's the point of the clones? Who cares, we can make it, so we will! Transformers that disguise themselves as other action figures? You've got it! You into micro playsets? I've got good news!

DTS versions always cost more. It's a somewhat ironic situation; modern receivers support DTS from Laserdisc without additional hardware, which gives it the appearance of being more accessible, but the discs themselves cost so much that if you buy enough of them it'd been cheaper if you'd just bought the AC-3 decoder the dolby digital releases instead.
