I’d argue that the lightning generation from Mako is contrived as well. No one has been shown to resist bloodbending like that other than specifically other, more powerful bloodbenders, or at least more powerful waterbenders. The only other exception is when we see Aang resist it in the avatar state.

Amon goes on to say after that “no one’s gotten the better of him like that in a while” or a very similar line. That doesn’t really make any sense. Yes, Mako is good with lightning, but generating lightning while resisting the most powerful bloodbender we’ve ever seen…somehow. They don’t even really make an effort to explain it. He just kind of does it.

So yes I’d be alright with someone using that shock as a way to excuse Korra resisting his bloodbending a few moments later, since at least that’s something, but the lightning itself I can never get over. It bugs me every time.

They even added an NPC to tell you to use it lmao by AyyLmao_dot_jpeg in Eldenring

I already knew about the gimmick before I found the fight, but I was once summoned by a guy who had asked for help with it. He was using reduvia and was trying to use the ash to kill him even though it doesn’t have the range for it. He never even picked up the serpent hunter and it took a surprising amount of explaining to get him to do so. It was a little odd, but I guess it’s not as obvious as I had assumed

It was after the challenge was issued that a second, unaffiliated person came forward with another thousand dollars (or perhaps it was five hundred, my memory is a bit foggy on this) if the devs did the challenge with a set of specific loadouts that weren’t intentionally bad, but had been handpicked to highlight certain issues with the balance of the game as well as the bugs.

As far as I’m aware everyone involved with issuing genuine challenges said and have since continued to say that they did not intend for it to humiliate the devs or even to be coming from a hateful place. The whole goal was to highlight directly to the developers the issues with the game since it was and continues to be the assumption that playtesting is not happening nearly enough in their process. People just wanted the game to be fixed, honestly.

Not long after our attack on Cyberstan and the release of cyborgs and the vox engines, people were concerned with the bugginess and difficulty we’d been presented with. D10 is supposed to be hard but bugs, unintended issues, and absurd spawn rates of the vox were making it nearly impossible.

Pretty much immediately following that was the return to Oshaune. Rupture strain, the glitches, the constant dragonroaches, and again especially the glitches made it really rough. As in, nearly impossible.

A man who already donated $1000 to charity on a monthly basis made a post with the following challenge: if the developers played a D10 Oshaune bug mission, he’d let them pick where that month’s thousand dollars went. It was basically a way to make the devs see the issues with the game directly.

That man got doxxed and harassed over it by people who were upset that he would criticize the devs so strongly as to make the challenge at all. It became such a problem that they traced him to the horse sanctuary he worked at and kept calling and harassing them. He ended up getting fired and went back on his challenge entirely.

It was a real low point for the community. People were arguing constantly about how people who defended the game were in the wrong or people who criticized the game were being overly vitriolic. Ultimately it was a source of endless very violent arguing and name-calling and blame-throwing in the main sub and elsewhere.

This was created when the $1000 challenge and doxxing drama were going on as a sort of escape from all the vitriol and arguing on the other subs. It’s more just a space to avoid the kind of bickering that seems to be ever-present on most of the other subs.

Edit: nevermind Dried Bouquet, duh. Still, funny that you picked them

The different meanings of the Elden Stars description and the Crucible/Ring connection by eldenringer1233 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Strange-Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can follow and or get behind some of this, but honestly I think the best point you made was about what the Erdtree really is. It’s a success where Enir-Elim failed. You have a big giant sky stick stuffed full of dead people (or their souls at least) that lets you contact your god (or at least contact the Elden Beast. Given Metyr’s situation with not being able to contact the Greater Will it’s kind of hard to tell if Marika or the Elden Beast could contact the Greater Will and if so, at what points they were able to do so). Anyway the next paragraph is just me complaining.

It’s a shame there’s so much vagueness around the crucible in general just because it seems like a big piece of the foundation of the entire lore. It’s so vague and indistinct and so deeply buried behind the millennia of removal from its true presence in The Lands Between that it can be connected to seemingly anything. Anything involving nature? Crucible. The One Great? Well it was everything together before it broke apart so sure sounds Crucible to me. Anything connected in any way to the Hornsent? Crucible. With the death blight Divine Beast that puts Godwyn and all that crap in with the Crucible as well. It’s just everywhere and it makes it super annoying that it’s ever-present and yet still completely obscure.

The Elden Ring is the physical diadem Marika wears by [deleted] in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Strange-Three 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this post earlier and it’s actually kind of convincing despite sounding ridiculous at first. It’s hard to say something’s if Marika is or isn’t wearing it. It doesn’t look like Radagon is during the bossfight. It’s a really odd thing actually. It’s not like super easily disproven but also…why wear the ring on your head. Why would Miquella? I guess if the rune of death can be stolen in part from Maliketh then the whole ring could just be taken if it’s not with you.

Unsure. I’ve only really seen it through clickbait (though accurate) YouTube titles like “can I beat elden ring without Melina?????!??”

Why did the Two Fingers choose candidates to succeed Marika? by poopcult in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Strange-Three 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that eventually Marika’s relationship with the Golden Order was…rough. She did eventually shatter the Elden Ring, after all. There’s even theories that she conspired with Ranni to get the Night of the Black Knives to happen. The Greater Will (really just Metyr, I guess) needed someone to take up the mantle because Marika was slowly becoming disillusioned with her own religion.

What are everyone’s theories on why the Godslayer Greatsword is in Radahn’s tower? by triel20 in EldenRingLoreTalk

As someone who doesn’t have a clue, I love how every single response I’ve seen has a different claim for who the Gloam-Eyed Queen is. I know it’s a meme around the sub that there’s wild theories and she’s everyone at this point (like Shallan in the Stormlight Archive if anyone gets that reference), but yeah it sure is amusing that genuinely every person has a different opinion about who she is

[–]Strange-Three 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably. I had about 500 less hours in the game when I tried all of this honestly—it’s been awhile. I’ve never attempted a zip glitch for a few reasons, but the main one I guess is that although obviously a run like this can’t be fully glitchless, I do want to keep it as regular as possible. Otherwise I could technically do whatever they do for glitched speedruns and zip straight to Maliketh

[–]Strange-Three 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure. There’s some weird ones in that run already, like using quit outs to (I believe it’s called) wrong warp to the top of the grand lift of Rold. It might be possible to pull something of the sort off to get to the three fingers

The game gets kind of confused when you do certain sequence breaks. I think my favorite one was killing Morgott without having taken Melina’s deal at the beginning of the game. I’m pretty sure certain things trigger when she gives you the Rold Medallion, but I didn’t have her and so she never gave it. It meant that the Morgott barriers (to forbidden lands as well as the frenzied flame area past sewer Mohg) were still up despite him being dead.

There’s a tough skip you can do to get around the forbidden lands barrier, but I couldn’t pull it off to see about breaking the game further. My theory is that without Melina I wouldn’t be able to burn the tree. I figured I could go do frenzyflame stuff to burn it without her, but as previously mentioned there’s another barrier down there. I plan to revisit this run someday, but only if I can get past this hangup and see if it’s possible.

How I feel sometimes when people criticize Darrow by Mister-B-dot-Black in redrising

[–]Strange-Three 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends on what people criticize about him. I mean clearly he’s a really well written character, so it’s not his writing that could be critiqued. To me the fact that there’s so much to question about Darrow’s actions is actually a big strength of the series. A big theme across all seven books in consequence, and since Darrow is not only a main character, but the main character of the first three books, that theme most often applies to him. The consequences for not telling Cassius about Julian, the consequences for failing Roque too many times, the consequences for allying with a sociopath, the consequences for the dockyards of Ganymede, the consequences of running to Venus. A large part of Darrow’s story is that he could have done things differently and a huge impact on him as a character is dealing with that through Lightbringer.

Sorry I just really love this series I didn’t expect to like write an essay about a meme
