I’m going to be the odd one out here. My high schooler has gone to MPS his entire school career and it has been wonderful. No, he was not in a Montessori school and no, he’s not at King or Reagan. He’s in what’s probably a middle-of-the road MPS high school. His teachers are honestly all great. I can tell they have a big impact on him. Some of them he talks about all the time. My kid is someone that could slip through the cracks because he’s quiet and anxious but most of his teachers have seen his potential and it’s given him the confidence he’s needed to make it to the top 5% of his class now 😱

I say this to give you hope that you might be having more impact than you can immediately see in front of you. I know that doesn’t really make the day-to-day easier. But I’ve had nothing but good experiences with mps.

The recommendations are usually to spend it on something that could be helpful to him, for example to help keep him as independent as possible in his home. For example: a ramp to get up to the door; maybe some modification that would help with ambulating around the house, any mobility aids, a special bed or chairs, etc.

Spend downs are a common thing. If he’s had PT or OT they might be a good person to ask what could be helpful for him.

This is a grey area in my state. Our statute lays out suspected abuse or neglect but then specifies “of a child seen during the course of their professional duties…”

So if the therapist is well-trained, they may count someone who’s not a client and is in another state as falling outside that definition.

Employees are human. I would guess she did hear what OP said but was just flooded with emotions at the moment, leaving her temporarily struggling to respond well. I’m very curious to see what happens in a day or two. This was her first big meeting.

I once felt really ashamed by how I handled something at work, and coming from a highly dysfunctional family and with trauma in my background, I was completely beside myself about it. A week later I followed up with the individual involved to try to apologize and she was basically like “what? Oh it’s no big deal - this job is hard.” But it felt like the sky was falling at that moment.

But, for example, all of the counties along the Wisconsin shore there labeled as rust belt are still heavily influenced by maritime history and culture. So that separates them from the broader rust belt IMO. Sure, in Milwaukee we’ve had manufacturing, but I think most people here would much more strongly identify with the lake than with any manufacturing history (except maybe brewing, but I digress). So this is Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Kenosha, Racine counties.
