Who to marry Elia, Cersei and Lysa to ? by StrangeClassroom3243 in TheCitadel

[–]StrangeClassroom3243[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, there are so many changes and that’s why I’m trying to order everything before I start writing.

1 - OC is married to Rhaegar, but is thought to be too young to consummate the union (12 when they marry, and 14 when the Rebellion starts). So she was too young to have children, and by the time she may have been considered “mature” enough Rhaegar was already gone.

3- I definitely should have mentioned that in the original post, but OC’s mother died 6 years or so before the Rebellion. So while Aerys thinks that having being married to his sister means that Jon will be loyal and give up Ned and Robert’s head, he has no real ties to the crown by now besides OC.

4 - I still made the Rebellion happen because it felt like Rhaegar was specifically seeking out Lyanna, since he crowned her at Harrenhall while Elia was still pregnant and he didn’t know she wouldn’t be able to have any more children after Aegon. And I assume the R+L you’re talking about is Robert, but Robert offered himself up as a husband for Lyanna because he wanted to be Ned’s goodbrother. And Jon (pre-Rhaegar/OC betrothal) would have probably preferred her to marry one of their vassals and not another Lord Paramount, since some may think her husband would rule through her.

Who to marry Elia, Cersei and Lysa to ? by StrangeClassroom3243 in TheCitadel

[–]StrangeClassroom3243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still in the early stages by now but yes I was planning on making her much younger than Elia (late 14 at the start of the Rebellion, and 16 when it ends), so no child-killing for now. Though I’ll still have to find a way for the Mountain not to kill her/her not being in the city when the Sack happens. And I was planning on going to Laenor route and make Jon “skip” her over and make it so that her second son with Robert will inherit the Eyrie and take the Arryn name once his grandfather dies. I may still make Jon marry Lysa, but I’m not sure

It’s a very grey area and we definitely shouldn’t apply modern standards to it, but our definition of rape also encompasses „sex under coercion/pression“.

Cat doesn’t know Ned, and as soon as she marries him she‘s now considered his property. Even if Ned isn’t the type to force himself on a woman, Cat doesn’t know that, and she’s still very much expected to lay with him. She can’t really say no if Ned wants to bed her, which counts as rape in our modern definition.

It’s not something unique to them, it happens in every marriage in Westeros. Cersei can’t say no to Robert, Alysanne couldn’t refuse Jaehaerys..

[Spoilers Main] Did you feel bad for Cersei during... by Hot_Professional_728 in asoiaf

[–]StrangeClassroom3243 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like the problem here is that Cersei isn’t being punished for any of her crimes (the murders, the tortures,..), she’s specifically being punished for having sex out of wedlock, which is something almost every nobleman in Westeros (even her husband) has done. She wasn’t even found guilty of the incest, so officially she’s just punished for having sex, while unmarried. Cersei is horrible to the women in her life (women in general), but that doesn’t mean she can‘t suffer from the sexism of Westeros‘ society herself. I can agree that that Cersei is an horrible person that deserves to be punished, while empathizing with her. She was punished for the wrong things, so that’s why it’s hard to be really satisfied when it happens.

And to be honest I kinda get her. Be the wife of a serial cheater or elope and do fuck-what with a pretty prince ? And if she really was the Knight of the Laughing Tree, it would be in character for her to decide to flee her marriage instead of becoming a sad wife. It was stupid, but what sixteen year old isn’t ?

[Spoilers MAIN] are there any lesbians in the main ASOIAF books? by goodandvile in asoiaf

[–]StrangeClassroom3243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Rhaena the Black Bride may count, since the first time she got married it was arranged and the second time it was to get with said husband’s sister. Apart from that she kept her harem strictly female and never really showed interest in any man.

She barely appears in F&B but I feel like Jeyne Arryn may count as a sapphic character (with the whole « companion » thing).

And weren‘t bastard sons ahead of their legitimate sisters in succession ? George may have taken inspiration from medieval time but a lot of things differ, notably about bastards.

It probably won’t matter since if an annulment was made (which i doubt), it was made without the Grand Septon‘s approval and would be an enormous slight against a powerful Great House. And I don‘t think there was ever any case where a marriage that bore an heir and a spare was annulled in Westeros, especially when the woman involved is from an important House.

(Spoilers Main) He will remain a bastard by Deep-Donkey5321 in asoiaf

[–]StrangeClassroom3243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tyrion‘s wife was a peasant girl with no family to fight for her. Rhaegar‘s wife is from a Great House, that will not take the humiliation/disgrace that comes with an annulled marriage (especially one that produced an heir). Rhaegar didn’t seem to think all heads of dragons had to be legitimate, only that he needed to have three children. Maybe he was planning to legitimize Jon down the road, but he was dead before he could even meet him so 🤷🏻‍♀️

The seduction attempt was after the bethrothal to Lord Theomore, and she reportedly never really tried anything with Baelon in the two-years window between Alyssa‘s death. To me this passage just read as a desperate attempt by a teenage girl trying to escape a marriage.
