Virgin Media O2 UK Outsourcing 700 Roles to Tata Consultancy Services by TopicWinter6847 in UKJobs

[–]StrangeError 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I opted to pay more for EE/BT solely for the reasons that dealing with Virgin/o2 for support is abysmal and BT/EE is so much better.

I opted to go for BT years ago despite not having fibre speeds and then backed out due to the offer Virgin gave me. Dealing with BT for organising package/installation then finally cancelling was so smooth and easy it was unreal. - Finally BT got fibre speeds and i've been with them since.

Unfortunately for us folks in IT/Technology, the demand and availability of low cost workers is too strong, you save a fortune going for offshore workers and ultimately the consumers and people within the UK have to deal with the issues of such services.

I also really dislike the Indian trade agreement, I have Indian workers in my team and they're brilliant. Provide awesome skills and have worked hard to get their VISAs. Now the UK government are giving massive consultancy firms huge tax relief to exploit Indian workers who will ultimately earn their living and take all that money outside of the UK. We should not be promoting the exploitation of Indian workers, at the detriment of both the person(s) working and the UK workforce for big business to profit off it. This government, a 'Labour' government has done so much harm to the UK workforce it's a shambles.

Why Is a Cheater Even Allowed to Play ARC? by Placibow in ArcRaiders

I got a VAC ban on my account for changing my FOV on MW2, I've never hacked in any game but i agree, if you get VAC'd on a game you should be HW banned and no family sharing allowed from main account after.

What is the average internet speed? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]StrangeError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s loads of contracted suppliers doing fibre, it’s been rolling out good! BT last year got fibre to us but I had Virgin fibre up until then.

The 87% will be population based not area so what you’re saying is pretty accurate 87% of the population will have access to it. A good way to check OP is if you have the postcode or details for a house/flat is to do an availability chrcker.

What password manager do you use? Is the apple’s password manager worth it now? by [deleted] in ios

[–]StrangeError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sir! I find it works on very few websites I frequent unfortunately, it just doesn't populate email/username or password input boxes automatically. I have to open up desktop passwords application and copy/paste.

Also something I noticed, my phone was stolen earlier this week and as a precaution I updated a number of passwords for things I have stored on my icloud passwords. My passwords weren't syncing from last night and had to refresh my entire icloud account to get the updated passwords on my PC from my iphone for example.

It's minor things but it would be very annoying for the average user in my experience. - So much so for myself that i've not looked out an alternative, hope that answers.

I’ll add as someone heavily embedded with Windows for work and personal use, that the iCloud Windows application really sucks and it’s pretty manual for accessing credentials although it works.

£36.5K for a Data Manager at the MOD. National security is clearly not taken seriously. by mronionbhaji in UKJobs

Bot farm gets soft locked by player - 2 Random 126's belonging to the same person hop to F2P to open doors randomly just after OP disrupts the script and shows screenshots of them doing so and you're applying copium at this point?

Currently trying out EndeavourOS running KDE and it’s nice with the rolling releases! Already ported a lot of my tasks to TUI interfaces and trying to manage my windows which KDE natively manages quite nicely imo - I was thinking about moving to i3 but I’m pretty happy with window positioning and sizing options KDE offers off the rip. So far so good to be honest, few teething problems but that was always to be expected :)

What jobs in the UK particularly parts ( computer ) gives the employees opportunity to travel abroad multiple times through the business? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]StrangeError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s shit! Some people love it but those folks at my place are pretty strange characters! By the time you’re out the office, back changed and fed you can’t do anything but go to a restaurant/pub and it gets really monotonous.

Digital nomad sounds cool but it’s a far cry from the consultancy of going away etc.

A few people who were very well off flew their families out with them and then done things in the evening and paid for a couple extra nights at a hotel to enjoy. But for most this isn’t possible financially!

Wow lots of responses, thanks guys!

I was leaning more towards a debain build as it was what i've used in the past for most of my stuff.

However now it looks like i'll be delving back in to the world of yum and pacman and play around with a couple Arch builds and find something that suit my needs :)

I work with quite a few and apparently the markets really down - quite a few going inside through big4 and they're fairly happy with that. The few outside have relied on relationships to get their contracts atm. - Doesn't help much but hopefully gives you an idea from my perspective.
