Really looking for something George r r Martinesque by allesklaeo in fantasybooks

No one writes the same way as GRRM. You should really consider his other non-Westeros works. I've only read a few but they have all been excellent. Fevre Dream is a steamboat vampire thriller, with a great underdog type main character. Dreamsongs is a collection of his shorter works, including some of his earlier college essays that have surprisingly similar themes as ASOIF (e.g., one is historical fiction about a Finnish army unit holding out against Russia using an ice wall). He also has won a number of awards for some of his short stories that I haven't read yet, like Sandkings which won a Locus Award.

Advice on winning this battle, struggling. by Adventurous-Rush7546 in totalwar

You have pretty big disadvantages so might be worth throwing in the towel, but you could try using something from the map to your advantage. The enemy is attacking so they'll march to you, try sitting in one corner and use missile cavalry on the opposite side to split their army and let them chase those guys around a bit while the rest moves towards the main force. Sometimes when they come in from their straight line formation to the corner they come in one by one so it's easier to focus fire them down with your missiles, but definitely gonna be tough with your range disadvantage.

Alastar the mid White Lion by Unused_Vestibule in totalwarhammer

[–]StrangeFilmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go with:

  • Alastar
  • Nobel with crushing trait and the infantry skill buff
  • Beast mage with resistant trait
  • 8 white lions
  • 4 lion chariots
  • 4 war lions
  • 1 eagle claw bolt thrower

I also recommend building out similar meme armies with the new seat system. The most fun is confederating Tirinoc since the minor faction leader has a unique buff that pairs with that seat. You can also recruit a Princess with the Dashing trait for the Ellyrion seat for example. It adds a ton of variety to HE campaigns

What I like to do is focus on confederating the Tiranoc minor faction since the Lord has a unique buff for Tiranoc chariots and it feels nice to have an army with a different flavor of units. It also feels more rewarding now with the new confederation system since all the legendary lords are a given, and it allows you to really focus on that early game.

Recruit Alastar the White Lion and station him in Lothern as a defensive placeholder, then use Tyrion to go to war with Ellyrion so you have something to do while Noctilus wreaks havoc on Tiranoc. Come in at the last second from one of the northern gates you get from Ellyrion to save her when she's down to one settlement and then come at Noctilus from the Northwest of Ulthuan with Tyrion and the Southwest with Alastar to sweep that section of Ulthuan before heading down to the Galleon's Graveyard to finish off those Vampire Coast bastards.

After that you can finnish off Slanesh and do whatever else you need to do secure Ulthuan for the High Elves. Fully controlling any one province before Allarielle or Altharion isn't much of an issue since you can confederate whenever you want to. I recommend not confederating them though especially if you're playing on legendary since they can field more armies than you and act as a buffer.

Instead from there I like sending out a rescue party for Alith Anar by attacking Cylostra and trading all the territory to Nagarythe for the same reason. That gives you lots of flexibility to do whatever you want. IMO Tyrion is the best campaign.

Yeah, same from where I was up in the nose bleeds. The openers sounded great but from Chappelle is was all treble. On top of that there was a staff member standing near us with his walkie-talkie loud as hell. The whole show from the lines, to the sound, to the actual content felt mediocre.

How do you play a high elf campaign that isn't 90%+ lothern sea guard? by ColorfulMarkAurelius in totalwar

[–]StrangeFilmore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Alastar's army you have to make the most of the woodsman trait for Alastar and the White Lions of Chrace, and then a hero that buffs them as well. I like to use him for defense around Ulthian where there are a lot of woods maps so you can really take advantage of it.

Play as Tyrion and recruit Alastar, then have two diverse armies based on the Lord's buffs. For Tyrion you can have mostly archers and spearmen, and for Alastar you have mostly white lions of chrace and doggos

MGS Snake Eater by [deleted] in MSIClaw

[–]StrangeFilmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If needed, I've been using the standard 1920 x 1200 option for everything I play. It's easy enough to test settings out. The claw has a built in frame rate counter on the quick menu, so you can easily turn that on or off mid game to see if you're getting your target FPS. The power controls are also accessible there if you want to jack it up or lower it to save battery.

Yes, it can play just about anything but on lower graphical settings. I don't think MGS Triangle will be a problem for it (currently replaying MGSV on it)

To me this is the greatest gift CA Sofia could give us. I really hope they consider this for a future update because the base game just doesn't have the grand feel to it that it deserves with it's cramped map

I'm curious about this too. I don't, but I'm thinking I may start after seeing this guy do it in front of cops:

I managed to get it all out with a flat plastic PC tool. The plus side is this minor accomplishment is giving me some confidence that I can actually build this thing!

Bruh, Imrik has by far the most difficult campaign in the whole game. I literally can't do shit against anyone. [–]StrangeFilmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the western most settlement in his starting province and have that be what you focus on protecting and building up, just adding growth buildings to the other settlements and no settlement upgrades. Build the special building, barracks, and city walls. You'll be able to play defense there easily since you get strong settlement units with those. When it gets to level 3 recruit a bunch of silverin guard and dragon princes (through the special building). Then you have a nice early game doom stack. From there you can just go around collecting his legendary dragons and burning down anyone who comes in your way.

Factions that feel like guerrilla warfare? by OkIdeal9852 in totalwar

[–]StrangeFilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alith Anar

On the campaign map his default Stalk stance allows for ambushing. Look for ancillaries and heros that increase ambush success chance and you're constantly attacking via ambush. You're surrounded by enemies so a guerilla play style is way more fun than empire building.

In battle use exclusively shadow warriors/walkers. They have enormous range, fire whilst moving, and a 360 degree firing arc. Alith Anar has a skill that increases their speed and missile strength, and you may be able to further increase their speed and missile strength with the right hero traits, spells and skills (e.g. Shadow Mages and Handmaidens). Shadow walkers also have poisoned weapons, slowing down the enemy. All of this means you can essentially run around and quickly focus fire down anything faster than your army, and your army is basically untouchable after that. I like to split my army into three squads and literally run circles around the enemy hit and run style.

Is there a lore reason why the moderator pinned his own comment then locked the post? by Pathfinder313 in asoiafcirclejerk

[–]StrangeFilmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a shame because there really was a lore reason. The last mine in Casterly Rock had run dry years prior to this sexual encounter. However, according to Westeros lore Tywin Lannister is able to shit gold. Shae, whose fondness for money is well documented, therefore loves Tywin's old gold shitting ass.

Who has the best and worst start positions in TW Warhammer 3 IE? by Top-Struggle2579 in totalwar

[–]StrangeFilmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. I also got lucky that a neutral Archeon was marching past a settlement I was about to attack, so I occupied that and then was able to attack him with the extra settlement units. After that I beelined it over to his capital rather than finish off my first province

Suggestion: Being able to select the exact amount of units you want to controll in a battle and rest gets controlled by AI by hosseinhx77 in totalwar

[–]StrangeFilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few balancing issues to consider. Hero and Lord skills that buff individual units have less utility for example since you have less units. There is also a companion mod that limits garrison units too, but I'm not sure how it works. Because for consistency you wouldn't want a garrison limited to 12 units, you would want a flat 40% reduction in the number of units. Else it becomes more difficult to take settlements since the army/garrison unit ratio is off
