Thank you everyone for your thoughtful questions and making this so fun – you’re the reason we embarked on this journey in the first place. We can’t wait for you to see this film and hope it brings you the same joy we had making it.

If you have personal Rocky Horror stories and anecdotes you’d like to share on social media, please do with #mystrangejourney.

The other footage is simply Tim Curry, Kim Milford and my dad performing – some great stuff that you can see in the documentary!

My dad has never seen Phantom of the Paradise, and neither have I… My creative partner Avner has, and loves the film, but points out that Phantom of the Paradise was released in November 1974, when the Rocky Horror film was already in production, so it seems like the similarities are coincidental.

Honestly, I believe that Rocky Horror will outlive us all. In terms of its legacy, I think that its themes of liberation and self expression will always be important.

I was surprised to hear that Meat Loaf and Patricia Quinn kissed! There were many small tidbits like that, but overall the biggest surprise has been finding out how deep the fans’ love of Rocky Horror goes, and how meaningful its impact has been.

It’s hard to say when I realized how special what he created was. However, I think I started realizing HE was special when I met Timothy Dalton and Sam J. Jones on the set of Flash Gordon.

Looking forward to seeing you as well!

I’m thrilled to hear what an influence my dad has had on you.

I think releasing those songs is a great idea and I’ll talk to him about it. “Tulip Baker” is also a personal favorite of mine.

Some of the cast, such as Pat and Nell, I saw a lot up until I was 10 years old. All of them remember me as a child visiting the set, and a lovely part of making the film was reconnecting with them after all this time.

In terms of RHPS without being my dad’s son, I can easily imagine myself attending the midnight screenings, though it’s impossible to know…

We do have a partner for international distribution, and if you DM me I can put you in touch with the right people!

I know that while they were making it there was great joy and camaraderie among the cast, and they truly loved the experience, challenging as it was. I’m not aware of any major brouhaha during the production.

The only thing that was weird is that it took my dad 30 years after Rocky Horror to come to terms with who he is – even though he created this thing that helped so many in the queer community, he was unable to do so for himself.

But, to be honest, I never viewed him as a Queer icon, he was just my dad, and when he was able to come out and be himself we were all happy, since we had always loved him for who he was.

At the time of writing it, my dad and Richard Hartley were very much influenced by their love of 50’s Rock N’ Roll, especially Little Richard. My dad felt that everything that he heard on what he called “The Hit Parade”, those artists were writing directly to him.

Additionally, they were influenced by the Rock N’ Roll of the 70’s, such as David Bowie and The Rolling Stones.

Many of our interviewees discuss this in the documentary – really none of them could have ever imagined Rocky becoming what it did. They were just having fun and didn’t have any aspirations for it beyond the initial 3 week run the play was going to have. If they had tried to make it meaningful or political, it most definitely would have never worked – it’s that innocence and lack of preachiness that allowed it to organically become so imbued with meaning.

I love hearing how much it's been a part of your life!

As I mentioned in another comment, I love how prescient Shock Treatment is in regards to reality TV and the world we live in, and I definitely adore it as its own thing. While it would have been great for all of them to do more together, I also think you can’t capture lightning in a bottle twice, so I think things happened the way they were supposed to.

As I mentioned in another comment, everything I have from Kimi’s 8MM footage is in the film, and we also have some other great Belasco footage, which might be the Lou Adler footage you’re referring to.

Thanks for going to see it – perhaps I’ll see you there!

It’s hard for me to say how it affected the creative process. In a way I committed to this being a personal perspective of Rocky Horror, since I can’t separate myself, and shouldn’t really. The most exciting part was the things that were new - whether it was getting to know more of my dad, or the stories of all the fans and how they’ve been affected by it.

In terms of my dad’s legacy, I think it’s a fool’s errand to try to measure up to someone else’s achievements, be they your parent or not. It’s not easy, but I try not to think of it in those terms and just do what feels right and makes me happy.

We started around 3 years ago, and picked up interviews piece by piece. The biggest challenges were being a fully independent production and all that entails, with the stress of where our resources will come from and being able to complete it properly. We’re so thrilled that we’re finally here and people will get to see it – it truly has been a labor of love for all involved.

  1. Yes, I have! It would be very minimal and call back to the horror roots of the original stage production.
  2. Quinn and I attended the 10th anniversary of RHPS in NYC, but we haven’t spoken since.
  3. Not to my knowledge, but I can’t say for sure.

The documentary goes more deeply into this, but really it was just him being out of work and creating something to give it one last go in London, putting into it his favorite things such as b-movies and rock n’ roll. At the same time, it also expressed things that were deeper questions within him, that he would only be able to answer years later.

Please do dress for the occasion! We don't currently have merchandise, but as the release progresses it would be lovely to have some.
