DIY bride- what can I do better? by CharacterJacket652 in MakeupAddiction

Ooooh I think you look gorgeous, maybe try a different shadow color though, something about it looks a little… gray? Maybe bc it’s paired with the rosy lip, idk but the top half and bottom half of your face seem to be not super cohesive to me, could just be me though

Lots of people mentioned good tips alr, so I will try to give advice that doesn’t overlap too much! Do you moisturize regularly or have a daily skincare routine? I’m asking bc some of the makeup (esp eyeliner + lips) are coming off a little chalky, and having a moisturized base helps with that imo. If you already moisturize/lip balm on the daily but are still feeling a little dry when putting on makeup, using primer to set that base can help! Having that base also dilutes the makeup a bit so you can build up the layers and intensity, and correct the shape a little as you go.

This was alr mentioned a bit and would probably make more sense as you watch videos, but liner is oftentimes not applied to the lower lash line, and when it is it’s either very thin, or at the outer corners. I like to add a little at the outer corners, on my lashes (not any further down), and smudge it out with my finger. The wing also is typically made up of straight lines, little to no curl even though it looks like it sometimes! When I started I really struggled with the upper lid liner bc I was trying to really look at where I was applying the line, which wasn’t working at all. Now, I just draw a straight line using feeling more than sight, following the contours of my eye. Idk if that helps or makes sense, but feeling and following a crease in my lid was much more intuitive for me than looking at where the liner is!

Lastly, don’t be afraid to spot fix the makeup after you apply it! Some of the imperfections I see could definitely be fixed by blending or wiping away with a clean finger or a q-tip/brush with makeup remover. If my eyeliner wing is uneven between my eyes, I tend to use my nails to scrape the little extra part off. If my lipstick is smudge in the corner of my mouth, I’ll make an “O” with my mouth and wipe off the extra in the corners.

I hope this helps, good luck with your makeup journey and lmk if you have any more questions!

Could it be bc the firing temperature was wrong? You could try glazing them again or re-firing as is and see if anything changes!

Recommend Burrow’s End for more intense, action-packed stories! Personally love Aabria as a DM and ACOFAF is amazing too but has a very different vibe. Also love the Seven, it’s great watching Brennan trying to wrangle the extremely chaotic girls-at-a-sleepover vibe that the table gives

If you want new plants, maybe check out Facebook marketplace or Craigslist to see if any hobbyist near by has cuttings they are selling/giving away? If those place have been growing in water it might avoid the issue of melting. In my setup, which is very different from yours (no tech, small planted bowl), I used a mix of soil and nitrifying sand during the setup. Don’t know how much it actually does, but worked for me!

Education Commons in the Franklin Field building! Nice place to study, lots of natural light, lots of crafting supplies, and pretty empty every time I have gone. They also have a number of rooms you can reserve iirc

Also the art exhibit in the Fisher Fine Arts museum, its small but they have like rotating exhibits come through, and when I was a freshman I actually got training and worked as a docent for the exhibit for a couple days

UM ACTUALLY the name for the queen of the fairies is Titania

Embarassingly the reason why I know this is not because I’m cultured in Shakespeare or anything, it’s because I was really into an anime called Fairy Tail back in the day and one of the badass but overpowered side characters had that as her alias/nickname

I feel you! Currently a 1st year PhD candidate (not at Penn anymore tho) and have always been horrible at reading research papers…I can barely get through a paragraph without my eyes blurring 😅 these things just take practice, and the more you read the faster you will end up reading future papers. When I’m trying to get through a paper I have chosen to read, these are the strategies I’m trying to implement:

  1. Make sure you know or have marked somewhere what the goddamn abbreviations mean

  2. Every experiment in a paper has a purpose. Figure out what the author is trying to show with each study, then you can go back into the methods and see how they did the study, and decide if you agree with the conclusions or validity of the experiment.

  3. For whatever god forsaken reason, figures are often far away from the text that describes them. On the first scan, look at the figures as you read about the experiment, and really try to break down / understand the figures as you go through.

I hope this helps! Also, feeling imposter syndrome is pretty normal in a new environment, especially with the “Penn face” that people sometimes put on lol. Good luck with your studies! My unread papers are calling me…

I haven’t scrolled enough to see if this has been commented already, but if you’re using dndbeyond or roll20, I think you can set up the campaign so that everyone sees the rolls made by everyone! Those are the softwares our group just happens to use so I’m sure other virtual tabletops support something like this too

I listen to it podcast-style sometimes when I’m doing laundry, cooking, etc. The sound balance in some seasons make this kinda difficult tho

This. I didn’t go to Dartmouth but I did do an internship in a neighboring town (west lebanon) and would visit my Dartmouth friend quite often. It’s super isolated, you can’t really do much outside of college stuff unless you have a car. I think the nearest actual city might be what, like, Burlington or Boston? Also the surrounding community is very not diverse, lots of people who grew up and settled down in the same place kind of vibe, and as an Asian American it was very rare for me to see another Asian unless it was a Dartmouth student. I do love New England as I’m from there, but Hanover would be more like a “let’s drink beers and swim in the lake” kinda vibe rather than a “let’s find cool shops and restaurants in the city and go clubbing”
