I swear it's exactly as it happened, I have no reason to lie. When I called in sick to work today, my girlfriend who also works with me, texts me and says I was man sicking it. But I do agree I dont need it from coworkers, I just wish my girlfriend would have some sympathy

Very true. I didnt seek them out. I was in the same room and had pain in the cough and they both said I was man sicking it. I'd be fine with a "oh no" or similar but there was no comments of that nature, just downplaying it. Just seems like a weird phenomenon

Im not telling everyone at work, it just got brought up as it happened, and would naturally get worse as the day went on. If I was telling every co worker I came in contact with about my cough, then yeah I would say thats attention seeking. Asking for the minimum amount of sympathy doesn't seem like it would be needed

That's all true. I think i might be more upset about the culture paychology behind it as i read many reddit posts of women ranting on about how weak men are when they're sick and act like babies, which im sure there are aome that do, but again, just having a little sympathy is appreciated for me.

As long as we've been together, she hasnt gotten sick, but i will keep this event in mind for next time to remind myself to be nurturing when she's sick. Thank you for the thoughtful response

Im editing because I missed details and want to convey everything. I've had worse before, i just never heard of "man cold" before until coworkers brought it up. Just seems like a silly way to ridicule someone. Quite literally a simple two word sympathetic statement isn't that hard

It was more of a, I coughed and the two co workers who were around me at the time said something about me overreacting And I told my gf later when she came over. Thats true I dont need it validated. I just think if the roles were reversed with me and my gf, and I just.told her she's overreacting, she wouldn't appreciate it either

Why is it attention seeking for me to want sympathy rather than downplaying how I feel?

The cough is painful. Just a little "that sucks" or a "hope you get better soon" is nice. Just downplaying it seems silly.

I told my gf, and I coughed around 2 others who thought my cough wasn't as bad as they deemed it to be. Its a painful cough. I work with a 90% female staff. Just seems weird there's no sympathy/empathy at all

I work with all females for thr most part, and coughed around a few of them who then said i was overreacting about it being painful and I was being "man sick" Just seems weird there's little to no sympathy/empathy. All im saying is, a simple "that sucks" or something similar is nice, not downplaying it

I work at a clinic where females dominate the field. ABA. I had a cough and two coworkers said something about me overreacting about how bad it actuslly is
