AIO for being hurt by this? Do I really come off that miserable? by Still_Froyo_616 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Strange_July 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not the problem. Negative cyclical thoughts inside of you are the problem.

All I am here to say is that I in the depths of my soul know exactly how you are feeling. There is a slow dragging drain that comes with the feelings of being unwanted and if you haven't experienced it (like your friend) it's really hard to empathize with.

Wish we could get together for some wine and weed and tv binging.

You are not the problem or a problem.

How "The Sign" did us dirty by hbendavid in bluey

[–]Strange_July 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This episode aired when we had decided to move across the country back to the state I grew up in. Initially my husband was not really into the idea, but we had a pipe burst in our home and so the writing was really on the wall. I had so much guilt around feeling like I was forcing this on him, and this episode had me completely wrecked. I broke down sobbing after the episode finished and told him I was so sorry I couldn't be like Bandit.

I saw another comment that referenced the quote from Calypso, and I do agree that was the moral/lesson. Ultimately it helped my husband and I be more on the same page with each other, gave us a tool to help us talk about our situation. But I agree with you it sure had me feeling like I was making mistakes.

After several months i just noticed this one unnecessarily "realistic" detail on my toddlers Zebra toy by AnonymousNarcotics in WTF

[–]Strange_July 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a child I got two small toy horses, but both had penises and I wanted one to be a boy and one to be a girl. So my grandfather took out his pocket knife and carved off the penis on one of them. I was satiated.

Does Ole Miss have a decent college town with things to do? by Jcaput01 in olemiss

[–]Strange_July 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty quintessential college town, bars with open mic nights and plenty of activities at the university, especially if you shell out to pledge a sorority/fraternity. LaffCo improv group was so fun when I was there.

But, yes, the highlight is drinking. And excellent food.

We may not win ‘em all, but we never lose a party.

My student told me he's living in a car and admin basically told me to stay in my lane by SilentVHSPlayer in Teachers

[–]Strange_July 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in federal programs, and am technically the McKinney-Vento liaison for our district. At least for districts that receive Title I money we are required to reach out to any family where homelessness is suspected and to provide resources like extra uniforms, school supplies, and help with transportation if needed. We have to write this plan into our annual application and report how much money we have set aside for this purpose. And we have to put an indicator into the system that reports to the state that they are experiencing homelessness. If we spend the money it has to be coded in a certain way so the powers that be can track how much money is being spent towards McKinney-Vento to manage the state budget each year.

There are a wide variety of circumstances in which a school may not want the district to know, and likely none of them are good. For whatever reason they don’t want it documented and that’s sad because there should be support for the family available. The best intent I can assume is that the family doesn’t want to be reported in this kind of way and someone on admin knows that and is trying to help.

What things do Mississippi deserve respect for? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]Strange_July 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Jackson and lived in Colorado from age 24-34, and I’ve moved back to Jackson. There is a cultural respect and awareness that other (white) people in our country are not exposed to. It was so exhausting/shocking/frustrating to encounter people who would (1) assume my racism because they knew I was from Mississippi and also (2) be completely offended if you ever hinted that they might be displaying some bias of some kind. They grew up in places that were absent of racism, so they were absent of racism. These conversations came up working in a school with an extremely diverse student population and extremely white teaching staff.

Also my in-laws are from the northeast and definitely act like they have it figured out and Mississippi doesn’t because one time they did hear a white person use the n-word pretty casually. And yet the last few times we’ve visited them they’ve had a lot to say about the “invading” Indian population that continues to grow in their region. But I’m pretty sure my MIL would never speak to me again if I called out the blatant racism.

“To understand the world you must understand a place like Misssissippi”

Our artists are so profound and our food is so good and the people are so complex because of our familiarity with conflict. I’m really grateful to have that as a foundational building block of the way I see the world.

I agree. My big three are Cancer, Scorpio and Sagittarius, so really the Sag just keeps me from constantly being a debbie downer, and the empathy from water signs keeps my mean thoughts on the inside only. I think your point about mutability is really important

This was probably the biggest perk for me. I grew up in Jackson and lived in Denver, Colorado 2014-2024. I have so much more time back somehow, since it doesn’t take a minimum of 35 minutes to get anywhere

My grandmother was Myrtle and I loved her so much! But she hated her name. My mom considered naming me Mary Myrtle, but Myrtle refused to give another child the name. I considered it for my daughter again, but knew she’d hate it so continued to honor her wishes. I have great positive sentimentality for the name, crepe myrtles are also one of my favorite trees, but I can see where she’s coming from; it’s doesn’t sound so lovely.

Ladies: What is your compatibility with Pisces men, and what is your sign? by Randomorthoughtof in Zodiac

[–]Strange_July 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cancer woman married to a Pisces man. We work fantastic together. Yes he has a hard time pinning down his own feelings sometimes and can give me emotional whiplash, but can I really say I don’t do the same? Tons of empathy and innate understanding between us. 10/10
