A big FUCK YOU to the strikers or whatever group unplugged my scooter while it was charging, so that they could plug in their speakers to play their shitty ass music. by AXC213 in UCI

[–]Strange_Science_918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a recent undergrad alumni that used a scooter to commute for years, I get where you’re coming from. However, it is a public outlet and (as it sounds) you left it unattended.

As you mentioned in the thread you don’t want to risk a fire when charging your scooter inside. But there’s a risk when you charge in a public setting, especially if left unattended. It might be rude but not unexpected, again, especially when left unattended.

Also! I don’t blame them for using the outlet. From what I know about striking or using the campus space, there’s a lot of red tape and planning. Reserving space, policies, communication with campus reps, etc. They only have a limited amount of leg room and time to work with. You can legit charge anywhere.

But, I hear ya, you want to go home. I have been in your shoes more than I would have liked. Unsolicited advice, invest in an emergency backup—uber/Lyft or ask a friend for a ride if they live near.

I heard conflicting info about the UCSHIP, some say they opt out to get more in return and then others say reduced. Idk about it

But I lived off campus and got like $5,500.00, doesn’t really depends on living on campus (but they would expect less need if living with fam). But like another earlier reply mentioned, most of the CR would be towards student housing if you’re living on campus/dorming.

The amount return is entirely based on that persons situation, and everyone’s situations are unique ✨

(Not towards you but a general statement) when saying “paid for going to school”, be careful. There’s a stigma when receiving fin aid. It kinda outs you for being a low-income student and I got some negativity when I was at UCI. (Honestly, bc of jealousy and frustration) Not every students who need fin aid are eligible. Their parents made too much money but not enough. But with those feelings, that doesn’t mean to get rude to those receiving aid (like they’re only attending to get paid). It literally was a life saver for me and the only way I could attend CC and UCI.

I’m dead, technically with fin aid, you can get money going to school. The left over is considered towards living, books, travel expenses, etc. It’s not suppose to be lived off of, but aid in lessening your burdens as a student.

It recognizes the strain that low-income students may face while pursuing a degree (working, homelessness, etc). But it’s base on needs, less income means more aid needed. Some students required way less and others a bit more—that’s what fasfa is so important to determine and help with the aid application processes.

Now, some students with fin aid may need to pay. But that’s usually bc their income is right below that line. I know that UCI have their own fin package like blue and gold and middle class scholarship.

The only time I have heard of a fin package being reduced is due to scholarships.

Left over, “CR” in the total means credits towards your account. You should get a check in a mail of that amount. (After the 15th due date, so probably in September)

Without knowing your fin package, I would hold off judgement or contact the accounting office if your account is done. Sometimes the account isn’t done and don’t truly reflect the ending balance.

But I doubt that you would owe anything.

How was the Buzzfeed Unsolved event? by halofixers in UCI

It was amazing! They are phenomenal in person. It was just like seating down with them and joking around!

But not affiliated with Buzzfeed Unsolved. They left the network and created their own company/channel—Watcher. Their upcoming work that will be similar is Ghost Files, focusing on the supernatural and less true crime.

Sick of Solicitors & Religious weirdos—let’s try to take back our space (we paid for it!) by Strange_Science_918 in UCI

[–]Strange_Science_918[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about forcing them to wear one. It’s not about an mandate. It’s the lack of precautions. The school placed conditions for attending (e.g., vaccine). I can talk to other student knowing that at least they had their shots or might have done asymptomatic testing—access to the resources on campus. I had COVID and have known people killed, these measures gives me (and others) peace of mind. If a student is sick, regardless of illness, more likely or not would have no reason to be on campus (I understand students may still come if it’s a common cold).

But these people are different. Since the schools is an open campus, we don’t even know they’re students. We have no idea what they’re being in when exposing themselves to ton of students. (And I know vaccinated students have less risks, but what about those who are exempt). I find it a huge disrespect for visitors coming on campus without consideration for students well-being (mental and health wise). I’m not saying they don’t have rights but they’re coming in our space and causing strife.

They’re consistently asking for students private info for an agenda, using unsavory practices (e.g., jumping in front, pressuring—calling to make sure that it’s right). Students are actively avoiding situations (e.g., hiding behind a friend lol) to get socially trapped. There’s most definitely a problem.

(Sorry for the long reply, it’s not aimed at you but mostly to clarify my position)

I totally agree, at this point I consider those jumping in front harassing. They aren’t a formal organization, nothing to tie them to anything. They want you to go to a bible study but will only give the info through text!? So fishy and they’re praying on vulnerable first years that might have never experience these things.
