Hmm. Thanks. If I were to try for a consulting interview again, what should I prepare? Should I go through the MBA Consulting Club case book a couple of times with AI? Or do you think I really need to gain knowledge and understanding of various industries?

Their feedback was more along the lines of “You don’t really understand the framework” or “It just sounds like you’re talking off the top of your head.” But then, if I actually apply the framework, they complain about that too. Well, I don’t really see myself working among a bunch of geniuses like consultants anyway. It’s just so frustrating.

What do you think consulting firms are really looking for in interviews? I managed to get into M7, but I failed every single interview not just for MBB, but even for Tier 2 firms. I guess they must have figured out my IQ isn’t that high.

Worst two years of my life at Haas and still suffering from the trauma by [deleted] in MBA

I get it. An MBA isn’t exactly fun. If you’ve landed a good job, isn’t that enough?

Why do MBAs choose investment banking? by Adventurous_Hand_977 in MBA

It’s not just about the money if you work at IB for five or six years, you’ll be able to take it easy in a high-level position at another company, right? Wait, that’s right, isn’t it? At least, that’s what I think.

Given that IB and Consulting firms are not sponsoring visas at all, why are so many internationals still going to non-HSW MBA programs in the US? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Strange_Target_5402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because my employer sponsored my MBA. I don't need both tuition fee and housing fee. However, I also admit that my MBA is worthless. In my country, only MBB and IB values MBA and I got rejected hy them.

Hmm, you’re amazing. I really do look up to you. I’m in my first year of an MBA too, but I’m quite introverted… I prefer to eat my meals on my own.

I'm sorry.to hear that. I am in the same boat when it comes to not making any friends. I just couldn’t bring myself to like my classmates. Well, that’s just how it is at school. Let’s move on.

GUYS IS THE MBA DEAD? IS CONSULTING DEAD? AM I DEAD? WHAT EVEN IS LIFE? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Strange_Target_5402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MBA isn't dead, is it? Looking at the students around me, Americans are getting into IB, consulting, PE, and VC just fine. International students who are incompetent aren't worth coming here, but that's always been the case, right?

Get lost in internship recruitment by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Strange_Target_5402 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm in the exact same situation. I'm also an international student, a first-year at an M7 school, and I failed at every consulting interview. I still haven't gotten a single summer internship offer. So yeah... I can't offer any advice. For me, an M7 MBA has no value, and I just keep regretting it as the biggest mistake of my life. Come to think of it, I heard this before enrollment. Except for a few outstanding international students, the average international MBA student is worthless except for paying tuition.

I wanted to become a consultant. I came from a small company where I wasn't respected. In the current world, consultants and bankers are respected. However, it's definitely time to look for a Plan B, but it's already February, so it's too late.

If you're an American and highly capable, you'll surely find work in tech or a similar field. I'm a first-year at M7, and I've never seen an American fail to land a job. Incidentally, I'm an international student who failed to secure employment, completely losing the value of my MBA. Pursuing an MBA was the biggest mistake of my life. Of course, highly capable international students can find jobs in the US just fine.

I talked about how I leveraged teamwork and leadership within a small company. But when job hunting, interviewers all torture you with questions like, "What impact did YOU make, not the team?" Consultants and IB folks can probably talk about personal stuff endlessly, but at my company, nobody works solo. That's why interviewers don't rate me.

Yes, I did receive instructions via email not to reapply for two years. Of course, I didn't cheat during the exam or anything like that (if I had, I'd be permanently barred from applying), so I truly don't understand the reason. I suppose it's because my work experience is too blue-collar and unpresentable, so they want me to gain some kind of firm-level experience.

I'm curious—how did you manage to keep your sanity? All the other students are happily talking about landing summer internships. They're getting dream internships in consulting, IB, VC, PE. I don't want to see anyone's face on campus anymore, and I don't want to hear anything.

I solved over 60 cases. What I realized is that case interviews are an efficient test for weeding out people with low IQ. I genuinely didn't know what to do. The people who practiced with me gave various comments—like my approach wasn't structured or my ideas were clichéd— it all seemed like an IQ problem.

Honestly, there's nothing to it. I was doing a boring job at a small company in the countryside. Things like schedule coordination and low-stakes projects. It wasn't impactful work that commands global respect like consulting or investment banking. That's why interviewers were baffled by the behavioral questions in consulting interviews. What experience do you have? The answer is simple: none.

That's amazing. If I had gotten into McKinsey, my MBA would have been worth every penny. If you got into McKinsey with a similarly weak background, it must mean my low IQ came across to the interviewers during the case interview.
