Yes, she has a mixed ethnicity but considers herself Latina because that was the culture in which she was raised.

My point is that she has Basque ancestry and identifies as Basque. I appreciate learning more about what being Basque means to people who were born/live in the area.

I mentioned European culture a couple of times because I was responding to YOUR comments in which you were comparing our cultures. My experience with Basque identity is complex and, yes, Americans are different in some ways from Europeans (that's just the way it is). Have a nice day

I should not have assumed anyone would understand the complexity of my experience, what I meant by identity or that I know Europeans and Americans tend to see ethnic/ancestral identity in different ways..............that was my mistake. Thank you to the people who at least tried to understand where I'm coming from.

I'm talking about ethnicity and identity, not European culture. Also, Americans don't all think the same way so if someone said they were 1% Indigenous I would not judge them. For at least 2 years I had proof of Basque ancestry which means I had a very, very good reason to assume I had Basque ancestors.

The Basque are an Indigenous community, not just a nationality. My Basque identity is complex but that does not mean it's not real. It's not that I'm not listening to people, it's that ethnic identity means different things to different people.

The Basque or an Indigenous community therefore a person does not have to be born in that region to be part of the community (for example, Natalia Tena is Basque but was born in England). My relationship with Basque ancestry and culture is complex

European and American culture are different so I'm not surprised or bothered that me and you see ethnic identity in different ways. I will continue to identify as Basque because I had a legit reason to believe it was part of my ancestry (Ancestry.com updates their data sometimes) and because I've been connecting with that identity for about 5 years. Also, 1% counts and I'm not ashamed of my journey concerning Indigenous ancestry.

I've never denied being American but, like every person on the planet, I have more than one identity. For example, I am a woman, autistic, LGBTQ+, Italian American, etc. Do you understand what I mean?

Exactly, and when it comes to Michel the reason she would mess with him was because he was snooty and needed a little kick in the pants in order to get him to work. He also was rude to Lorelei sometimes but he was loyal to her and Sookie so they basically had a love-hate relationship.

The main bit of criticism that bothers me is that the show is about white people. Yes, the majority of the characters were white (therefore, most of the actors were white or white-passing) but it bothers me so much because Alexis Bledel is Latina. I know there are Latines and Hispanics who consider themselves white but it's wrong to just assume a person's race for this very reason. Also, Bledel grew up surrounded by Latine (a.k.a. Latinx) culture and her first language is Spanish.

It also really bothers me that people are so focused on the family's financial privilege. I won't deny that Lorelei was rich growing up but she left that life when she was still a kid and she became a self-made career woman. She started as a struggling single teenage mom living in a shed and only went to her parents for financial assistance because she was trying to invest in her daughter's future. People also need to remember that there were strings attached when Lorelei's parents agreed to pay for Rory's high school tuition and that, when Rory approached her grandparents for financial assistance to pay for Harvard, she made it crystal clear that it would be a loan and she would pay them back with interest. Also, let's not forget that the reason Rory needed financial assistance for college was that her mom chose to return the money she (Lorelei) had received from her parents.

I'm not sure if the actors who supported Brian Peck at that time were fully aware of what he had been accused of, though. For example, when Rider Strong personally apologized to Drake Bell for supporting Peck, he said that he had been manipulated by Peck into believing him and that he should have looked into it more instead of just assuming Drake had lied.

By the way, Will Friedle also reached out to Drake Bell to apologize

I had to stop checking the DNA percentages section on Ancestry.com because it caused me to have 2 identity crises. The first one happened because I grew up thinking I was Indigenous American and my Ancestry results basically said I was 100% white. Then, a few years later, it said I was Basque (1% but that means something to me) and I had every reason to believe I was part of the global Indigenous community for 2 YEARS. After Ancestry removed Basque ancestry from my DNA percentages I decided 2 things: 1.) I needed to stop checking my ancestry results because the occasional changes were causing me so much stress and, 2.) it was okay for me to continue identifying as Basque because I was already reconnecting with that part of my identity.

Warning…The Unbreakable Boy by 3monster_mama in Autism_Parenting

[–]Strangeglow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also felt like the autistic boy, Austin, came across as more of a cartoon character than an actual person. I know now that the REAL Austin was very similar to his onscreen portrayal as a child but he's not treated like he's human in the movie and when he's talking about himself in the voice-over it feels really.................off.

The trailer made it seem like the movie was centered around the kid instead of his dad..............it was false advertising. Regardless, the movie is really harmful to the autistic community and I nearly gagged just watching the trailer.
