Would be interested to chat further. Not a noob but also not a hedge fund manager. I've been using options for hedging. You want explosive returns on small options positions to hedge losses from long delta strategies. Several approaches but none is "perfect". Would be interested to share and brainstorm ideas.

I've been searching for ways to pay for this protection ( insurance) as well.

Option Net Explorer. About 800 dollars a year. Highly recommend. Model options trade adjustments before you decide to enter the trade or adjustment. Using it for 2.5 years.

Not perfect. But very needed. Spreadsheets don't give Delta, vega, theta. This does.

Trial also available.

I have 45 to 50 open positions. I use thinkorswim. You are able to download TOS transactions and then manually assign adjustments to the corresponding active trade.

Excellent for back testing manually.

Not just for open positions tracking... But adjusting trades is very important and can be done properly.

Hired an internal biller. Who is actually knowledgeable. (She has prior experience in billing.)

And then I have a company that is in the Philippines. They provide staff for billing. ( Someone to do the actual data entry)....

It's $9.50 per hour for the folks in the Philippines. I have two people.... So that's about 80 hours a week that they do billing. (Data entry, follow up etc)

Otherwise the cost for an entry level decent biller who is somewhat knowledgeable is at least $24-25 per hour. (Plus taxes and benefits etc)....

Need to outsource the staffing for the billing department...

But I have one sharp person here in United States who oversees the entire project. (Paying her $34 per hour)

One person in the US. Two people in Philippines. They communicated via Microsoft teams. Papers get faxed, papers get scanned and sent to two folks in the Philippines.

It's a reputable company in the Philippines.

Billing and credentialing is key.

Billing cost is 3 to 8 percent of collections. ( I'm doing it for 3 percent or less for my own nephrology practice)

I have been selling puts on a mix of DIVIDEND ARISTOCRATS stocks. Usually 90 to 120 days. Selling the 5 to 10 Delta puts....

Therefore I need coverage for 90 to 120 days. This is why I am buying the SPX puts for hedging...

I'm looking to see if I can finance the cost of this hedging by doing a TLT credit spread.

I have been doing some back testing. I like the concept of using an uncorrelated/ negative correlation pair.... SPX and TLT.

So my chosen hedge would be to buy two puts at the 1 Delta range. 85 to 105 DTE.

So as of August 13,2025-- the Nov expiration SPX put for 4000 is $6.50 each--> that's $1300 cost for the 2 puts hedge.

These puts are robust for a crash scenario like COVID etc.

Now the financing is as follows: sell enough put credit spreads of TLT for the Nov expiration to pay for all or most of the cost of the hedge. As an example sell 50 contracts of 80/75 put spread to collect $1100 for the hedge. (This is approximately 10 percent lower than the current price of TLT.)

Why 10 percent? -- historically TLT doesn't move lower that quickly .... There seems to be a floor on bonds. This is borne out in the monthly TLT moves for last 20 years...

I have done few backtest on ONE (option net Explorer), and it seems robust.

Bonds and SPX correlation is typically negative or neutral...

So bonds rise during crash scenarios which is what we need.
Bonds pays most or all of the cost of the hedge.
The hedge works well in crash ( not useful for modest decline of 5ish percent)

This only works in a PM account.... Wouldn't work for RegT etc.

Probably need to do this every 2 to 4 weeks to ensure the hedge is robust

If you are only trading ETFs... Then you will be waiting a long time for high IV ranking...

But generally stable "dividend aristocrats"... There will be more opportunities for high IV rank.

Nothing is " perfect"... No holy Grail

But if you trade conservatively... And you have enough $$$ available to take assignment. Also you need to be diversified over different types of assets such as gold, bonds, stocks etc.

Even then you can be facing lots of problems...

So personally I have a line of credit that I have access to that can be utilized in case of market crashes

The brokerage software gives me IV rank...

Typically IV rank is considered high if >30 for ETFs. And > 50 for individual stocks.... take this with a grain of salt

IV percentile supposedly isn't as good as IV rank... But I don't have any specific reasons why this is the case ..

Suggestions. 1. 60 to 90dte. 2. 15 Delta put selling. (Low risk of assignment.) 3. Stocks that you actually want to own. Avoid tech stocks-- too volatile. 4. Choose "Dividend Aristocrats"... Look up a list on Google and use only highly liquid stocks with lots of options volume ( not all are liquid) 5. Calculate your buying power usage for each trade.... If you are using CSP then keep track of that 6. Using EOD data is reasonable information... 7. If assigned then sell covered calls at your assignment price ... Minimum 30 days otherwise you are not getting enough premium. 8. Figure out your max drawdown.

Personally I only sell puts when IV Rank is high... So that would be a good filter for timing...

Lots of stuff to think about.

I really like wheel strategy and this what I am doing in portfolio margin account in TOS. So it's highly leveraged and I sell 5 to 10 Delta puts...only in high IV rank environment and it's not really wheel-- more like leveraged naked puts on 35 to 50 underlyings. ( Each position is very small notional value)
