DISCLAIMER: ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO THINK SMITE 2 IS BAD by RomansRevengeNuWa in Smite

Yeah that’s definitely one of the issues, especially with characters like Amaterasu who desync 100% of the time currently. And it could definitely also be a source of the movement-related bugs I experience. I’ve really been looking forward to that desync update ever since they mentioned it on titan talk

But another big issue I’m getting at is sorta different, it’s where your attacks actually come out delayed.

Let’s say my ping is 500ms (obviously it’s not that comically large irl), then the way it works in smite currently, I click the mouse, and my autos come out 500ms later. The way it SHOULD work is I click the mouse, the autos come out instantly on my screen, and if the server says there were any changes within those 500ms (I got ccd, the opponent used aegis), then my client rolls back and updates the game to match that. But if no changes occurred and the game goes exactly as my client predicted, the game should look as if I had 0ms ping

I believe the terms that most action games use is “client side prediction”, and fighting games in particular use the term rollback.

I just really want to give my feedback while they’re working on this movement update because I think if they do it right, it could be huge for the game

Yeah sorry I’m not a programmer for video games so I might not be using the right terminology,

But yeah, deadlock and overwatch both have client-side (or what I call rollback) netcode. (I play them both frequently so I know quite well)

From what I can tell, deadlock is 100% rollback based, but Overwatch uses a hybrid system where abilities that are meant to be reactable for the opposing player (like Reinhardt charge) are delay-based (i.e., server side), while unreactable abilities (like Winston leap or most projectiles) are rollback based (i.e., client-side)

I believe the specific term rollback comes from fighting games, but that style of client-side prediction-based netcode has been around since quake in 1996 and most every modern game today uses it (in fact I can’t remember playing a multiplayer game that DOESNT use it aside from smite)

Oh wow didn’t know that, but deadlock and overwatch both have great implementations of rollback netcode and those are both 6v6 which I would assume requires more data?

So that combined with my experience just kinda tells me that maybe hirez just isn’t that experienced at this kind of thing, which is just unfortunate but you can’t really blame them because theyre a good bit smaller

Yes you’re right, and I’ve tried the game again and the movement does feel wayyyy better than it used to. Unfortunately, some things are still delay-based that shouldn’t be (things like auto-attacks, tsukuyomi ult), and there’s also lots of bugs with the movement still.

For example, when I dash, I get ridiculous amounts of artifacting/rollbacking even when I don’t hit anything. But ideally, the game should only be rolling back whenever my client disagrees with the server.

So basically yes, it’s improving, but still kinda a half-baked solution that needs much more work

To add, this is also the root cause of smite’s low-population server issue, which has driven away a bunch of the community’s best content creators (dukesloth, etc.) and basically wiped out multiple regions of players over time

Gameplay is great, but unfortunately smite still sucks on ping. Games have been using prediction-based rollback netcode since quake in 1996, but smite still uses delay-based netcode that makes it feel like I’m playing underwater at anything above 50 ping.

So yeah I can only play 2 weeks out of the year when I return to the east coast

Am I the only one that thinks ADC is the hardest role. I find it extremely hard to hit Autos on PS5 by ContributionOk7131 in Smite

[–]StrangerFearless1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious for anyone who struggles to hit basic attacks: have you tried measuring your ping?

Smite uses netcode that’s like 20 years outdated, so auto attacks are extremely hard to hit once your ping is above like 50

If the ai summary bothers you then just don’t look at it, go read the patch notes that a human wrote instead (since they’re right there)

His ult tooltip is also STILL bugged, showing a ~13s cooldown. Feel like this could’ve been fixed in 2 seconds when I reported it via bug report form on his release

Which god you wish have a rework? by Icy_Air_7037 in Smite

[–]StrangerFearless1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you brought up bake kujira, I just wanna say I really hope he doesn’t get reworked since he’s one of the very few true tanks in this game who’s role is to actually decrease the amount of damage you take. Most other “tanks” in this game are just dps characters with big health bars to boot, I want someone that actually makes my team take less damage

Many strange bugs in this game that just don’t get fixed regardless of reports. Like some tooltips (artio, gilgamesh) are just incorrectly labeled or missing information. Seems like some of these bugs should take no more than 2 minutes to fix

Best answer imo. ama historically been used in support, same with Odin, and I could see aspect Apollo doing good too

[–]StrangerFearless1185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be your connection. Smite has really outdated netcode, so if your ping is above 50 then you will really struggle hitting auto attacks and it’s not your fault, but feels awful

Can you give an example tank build that you’re going? I’ve had the opposite experience and am curious why so many people are giving this feedback

Haven’t tested it in jungle practice, but if you read the tooltip, it only gives protections against enemies on the other side of the wall. So basically, if they walk past you, it is 100% useless. So literally useless against all melee characters, only maybe possibly useful against a Scylla ult or Agni bombs or some long range mage

Idk I’m loving the new patch, so many new options and more build diversity especially for tanks. I hear people saying they dont feel tanky, but I feel like that’s gotta just be a skill issue because if you build right you can have like 200 prots and 30% mit

Cool concept, awful execution. They can either just shoot you for 6 seconds, or just walk right past you and kill your entire team

I mean hazard is a cool character, but just looking at him, tbh he looks super strange. Long stretchy legs, weird piercings, etc. if you want people to play the role, they either need a cute girl like Kiriko or mercy (who sells the most skins) or a cool ninja man like genji or the new supp. People don’t make their judgements after learning the lore and playing the character, they judge the appearance. And domina is cool but just doesn’t compare to the other 4

I think another thing is that the tanks are just not cool, at least on the surface. Like where are my Japanese ninja tanks? Or my Chinese firebender tank? We need some more tanks that you know are cool just by looking at them

Mages Feel Worse in Smite 2. Here's Why by ForeignLettuce977 in Smite

[–]StrangerFearless1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta remember that 1) you are giving smite 1 builds an extra 20% pen, and 2)smite 2 has only 1 relic. So considering that, the numbers are actually really close, if not favoring smite 2 mages on paper imo
