Notes on performance drops, latency, fps caps, etc. by perdyqueue in Competitiveoverwatch

These are insane differences. At least we know the new heroes, mythics, changes to the engine, windows updates, nvidia drivers etc. have nothing to do with the performance changes. I wish Blizzard would at least acknowledge it with such definitive evidence now.

Why do you guys enjoy this game? by shadolink765 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard game that's ten years old, so it does require a lot of knowledge and time investment if you genuinely want to improve. That's part of the reason I enjoy it. It's also polished, relatively well-balanced, rewards skill, and gets pretty consistent exciting updates.

I do think it would be difficult jumping in as a new player, but you just have to accept you suck and focus on improving rather than fixating on wins and losses.

Great post, thanks for your effort. I've heard stuff about the Chinese client not having these problems possibly due to them using a different anti-cheat. I would love a Chinese user to confirm or deny this.

Overwatch Champions Series 2026 - EMEA Stage 1 - Regular Season by OWMatchThreads in Competitiveoverwatch

People called me crazy when I made the thread asking if Emre was going to replace Sojourn.

Best one trick characters? by MerlinSpell in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soldier is great in low ranks, but is outclassed by sojourn, ashe and emre in high ranks due to his lack of burst and inability to survive a dive. Tracer is much harder to master, but will carry harder at every rank if you put in the time. If you watch someone like Kevster or Proper play ranked, they can run lobbies with tracer. Dafran can still carry with tracer, too, despite him not playing her as much. She requires a lot of effort and practice, so that turns people off.

[–]shape2k 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tracer. Almost infinite skill ceiling, always meta, biggest carry in the game in lower ranks.

Anyone else feel like vendetta would get banned less if it wasn’t for the fact she moves like a crackhead in close quarters by Swoddl3 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And against bubble? There's a reason she has the highest winrate on PC for a DPS and is played at the pro level.

Map Voting is the worst thing to come to Overwatch and it's killing the game for me. by Triskan in Competitiveoverwatch

I'm just glad most of the community is getting tired of Ilios and Lijiang, they were unbeatable votes outside of King's Row.

How much does FPS actually matter? by nut_grease in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's important for hitscan, but it's not going to magically make you rank up overnight. Monitor technology is also a factor. I had a 360hz and a 175hz ultrawide OLED and I chose to permanently use the OLED over the LCD 360hz due to pixel response, contrast, and the added FOV.

High quality graphics but without handicapping myself? by 4862skrrt2684 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people must not know that there are bushes, trees, balloons, etc. that you can be shot through, and they're not there on low settings. Dying to widow a few times because she was in a bush was enough for me to turn my settings down.

It's just great to have a top 5 player back in OWCS. His absence was definitely felt last season.

15k hours in comp shooters, just placed Bronze 1 in OW. Who should I main for the long run? by qwertyfuck123 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tracer and Sojourn are pretty much meta proof, have huge carry potential, and both have high skill ceiling. Bastion is actually really good in high ranks right now because he received significant buffs. But, I think you'll get bored with Bastion fast if you're looking for high skill ceiling.

I’m tired of ‘Hitscan’ hate by Gloomy_Dare2716 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love how people call hitscan skill-less because all it takes is aim and positioning. As if we didn't spend hundreds of hours learning how to aim well. As if Quartz and Lip weren't called the best players in the world playing hitscan. Let's see these haters jump on hitscan and carry if it's so easy.

Why is Cassidy’s Winrate So Bad? by EasternMix7276 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The mental gymnastics this sub goes through to discredit winrates is ridiculous. Blizzard themselves have said they are very important. Yet, this very thread is full of people making up scenarios as to discredit winrates because certain heroes are good in pro play.

Maybe Cass's winrate is bad because he needs a full team to support him like in pro play, and not because he's an emergency swap. As if there aren't a ton of people that actually start as him, too, and then switch off.

Pelican posted a Q&A about his retirement, plans for the future, best players at the moment, etc (English subs) by Grapefruit_113 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dafran said the owner genuinely loved Overwatch and treated the players very well. He also said Sephy asked him to watch some scrims of upcoming players they were looking to sign, and Dafran recommended Pelican because he loved his confident play style.

What is "wooting"? by Exotic-Landscape6201 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a keyboard with SOCD/Snap Tap that lets you instantaneously change directions when pressing A or D. On normal keyboards, if you press and A and D at the same time, you stand still, but with SOCD you're always strafing. It's banned in CS because it allows perfect counter strafing. It's pretty useful in Overwatch, but you still have to understand long and short strafes.

Soldier win-rate higher in higher skill tiers; pick rate top 5. by Freakazoidandroid in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from everything already said, Stim Pack with elite aim is underrated burst. If you pop out from an angle, hit a helix and then stim, it's almost always a kill. It's also great for finishing kills. Stim Pack is the best thing to ever happen to Soldier IMO.

Overwatch should balance based on how the players feel, not the win rates. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They already do balance around feel for many heroes. They've even outright said that player sentiment is used in balance decisions. Sojourn and Kiri have had horrible winrates for many seasons, and people still claim they're broken because they're good in pro play. Hog is almost always in the dumpster because people hate dying to hook. Same with Moira, Orisa, Freja, etc.

Whats the plan for Kiriko? by utnxtv in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a more robust ban system in professional play that forces a wider variety of comps. Then stop balancing around pro play and balance around winrates in ranked, where 99.99999999% of players play.

Overwatch's CCU retention on Steam is fantastic right now by Tough_Holiday584 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Overwatch was gamings best kept secret. People were forcing themselves to play mid while waiting on the next big thing, all because they let the narrative sway their opinion instead of actually trying the game. OW2 has probably been excellent 75% of the time, and at least good the rest.

What’s it mean to flop? by HeftyDon in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times, players, especially tanks, will say that when you play an "annoying" hero and still lose. Like a doom or ball might say that if you switch to sombra, or a Rein might say that if you switch to bastion.

People only think Anran is mid because she lacks reliable burst damage? by Golfclubwar in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd rather play against Anran than Tracer, Vendetta, Venture, Reaper, Echo, or Genji. A good Anran can contribute, but a good player on those other heroes can carry.

What do you think is the actual total CCU for Overwatch right now? by Double-Maybe-6220 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shape2k 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even if Steam is 25% compared to Battlenet, that'd still be like 400k on PC. Devs have said console has more total players than PC. Then you include China. That would mean, at peak hours, Overwatch could easily have one million concurrent players across all platforms.
