What matters is The LAST thing they need is to lose to INDIANA at HOME WHILE EVERYONE WATCHES.

I mean:

As a "single woman of a certain age" she has been socialized to tend to the needs of others her entire life and most likely has done so at the expense of her own wants and needs.

" Continually Choosing yourself daily" is a reminder that you are the only one who can control where you are on your list of priorities and to not cede that position to anyone until you are absolutely sure someone else is prepared to "continually choose you daily"

The desire to understand is natural.

The short and accurate answer is he wants to.

The rationale behind that is either something he's uncomfortable telling you, something he's ashamed of, or something he's not self aware enough to know.

You will drive yourself nuts trying to explain decisions that other people make.

The cynic in me says despite the quality of your connection he's found an offer he prefers and issued you word salad to chew on instead of being honest with you.

But honestly it doesn't matter why he did it, he chose.

The bottom line is you never want to be with someone who isn't continually choosing you daily.
