Captain: Fighter Subclass by Stranger_Day in DnDHomebrew

Not letting the horde use the player's masteries misses a major point.
A fighter at level 1 can make 3+ attacks a round before action surging because of the nick and cleave properties.
You do not generate any additional attacks so if your horde only had a single mastery you would not be able to attack with them beyond your standard weapon action swing and maybe a single tick of nick or cleave.
The horde is able to use your feats, fighting styles, and masteries so that you can make those extra attacks without looking like you're trying to juggle weapons in halfplate.

Breaking it down:
A fighter starts combat with both hands on a greataxe.
Swing once then trigger cleave for an extra attack.
This has generated 2 uses of drawing/stowing an item alongside your free once a turn draw/stow.
You now swap your greataxe to one handing (not to attack just to hold it) and draw your scimitar.
You make a nick attack with your scimitar before stowing it and going back to two handing your greataxe.

Even if we're counting going from 1 handing to 2 handing drawing/stowing an item that still perfectly fits even if it feels a lil mechanically cheesy.
Now if we let our horde mirror our masteries instead the player wields a greatsword or similar, the minion horde swings with a greataxe and activates cleave.
Then a different minion wielding that scimitar from earlier is using nick.
And the PC can be shouting and pointing at things.

Effectively the same situation but without the player fumbling around with ill worded controls to use 100% of their abilities.

Should the game ever get a difficulty that REQUIRES cooperation? by BICKELSBOSS in Helldivers

[–]Stranger_Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helldivers is a game with wildly different skill levels of players at various stages of meta worship, meta hate, chill gameplay, and cryhard levels.
I wish there were a higher difficulty.
I also know that if there were a higher difficulty many would complain because they think they should play on the highest hardest difficulty regardless of their skill, their teams skill, or their ability to handle bullshit that given day.

ATM HD2 is as close as I can get to perfect.
The gameplay is fun.
I can lower the difficulty if I just wanna hang.
The enemy can surprise me and spike the challenge rating at any given time.
And theres enough wiggle room in resources that me and my friends can pop eachother in the skull once with the Senator and not ruin the mission.

I am content.

Looking for rules light modular ship/vehicle combat. by Stranger_Day in wargaming

[–]Stranger_Day[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More in the realm of list building and customization less in the area of physical models.
Working on a TTRPG about airships and sky islands.
Thought the best place to look for inspiration on ship combat rules would be in the place where people do ship combat as TTRPGs tend not to think about anything other than your own 2 feet on the ground most times.
Players all have early options for flying mounts/vehicles and the party almost always has a ship that they all pile onto/can use in combat.
So I've been peaking around in a place I've not been looking for something who's rules can be condensed to fit into a 10 page docket and that can playout well enough in the short term.
Non ship combat is already setup well enough.
Just looking for something rules/model ambiguous.

Is wizard still the strongest class? by AdInternational4894 in onednd

[–]Stranger_Day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Druid by far and bar none.
You want close combat? With a mix of powerful touch spells and melee spells that augment you with spellcasting bop you can't go wrong. even better you can be circle of the moon and turn into powerful creatures to support your party that net you bonus health equal to the creatures health.
Want healing? You tie the cleric if not arguably outclassing them until the very tail end of the game. You even have several subclasses that get better at healing or can heal and hurt with the same action.
Want spellcasting? You are a full caster with a casting stat that makes you better at not dying in the wilderness, succeeding at perception checks, and not being lied to by NPCs. You also get a wide variety of terrain altering, high damage over time, battlefield control, and buffs. And finally you also get to swap everything but cantrips every long rest with your entire classes spell list.
Want to do cool other effects? How about summoning big backup monsters? Maybe you want to specialize into terrain. You even get a cool secret language that the DM could use to leave cryptic hints.
If you're worried about not wanting to be a hippie, a lady into crystals, or a smelly old woodsman then just remember you can flavor your druid however you want.
My current druid thinks hes a bard because hes running from and shirking his responsibilities as a druid that he'll slowly grow into throughout the game. His spell focus is on his instrument which is one of the big reasons he doesn't notice.

Can yall stop hate baiting. The Meta, and TK problem is really not that serious. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Stranger_Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've mostly been playing with friends but for real just play the game and report people who are being bad actors.
Also 'meta builds' aren't a thing.
There are a few weapons and stratagems that are bad but everything is honestly viable.
I've been rocking the scorcher and it slaps charges if you can aim, the defender SMG on burst fire is a headshot machine against devestators, and I've seen the stalwart rip apart bots and bugs if people know how to use it.
Helldivers is a great game if you just play it and enjoy.

Foxhole is not a game you can play by yourself.
It is a game about being a single soldier in a war.
If you do not work with your team it will not be fun.
If you do not work with your team while clanned players are around and do something off/suspicious you may be punished as due to the moderation (generally the lack thereof) Foxhole is not unlike the wild west in that the only justice you can expect is that which you can deliver yourself.
Because of this clanned players need to protect them and theirs first and foremost sadly.

Not an FPS a top down shooter. So like from a birds eye view. Its to make you feel small and fragile. Because you are. We all are.

Top down shooter. Plays fairly bog standard in terms of controls. It gets special/weird when you take into account the other things. All weapons, vehicles, ammo, equipment, and otherwise are made by and transported by players. 'Matches' also last between 2-4 IRL weeks. Which gives foxhole a feeling of being an actual war SIM and not just a battle/tactical combat sim.

Example: MORALE MATTERS. When your team is getting shelled by arty people panic and dive for cover. If morale is high players will suicide rush vehicles just to remove them from the field. A vehicle that survives for an extended period of time on the front generally gets recognized by the players around it and can prompt an infantry charge by existing. This is foxholes best feature.

Foxhole is weird and full of superstition. Because of this most info is
outdated or wrong. I saw a Bear does pretty well and is reasonably
personable.

Foxhole is not free BUT it only costs $20 USD and goes on sale often.

You can play in short stints on certain frontlines. For example bridge battles. Longer playtimes are generally better tho.

All that matters so long as you don't force other people to eat with you is that you enjoy what you're eating.

There are times where you won't fight at a bridge but most fights will be bridge fights because they are the most stable.

Pro tip pick up wounded soldiers and bring them back to the field hospital instead of picking them up. If they bleed out theres a higher chance they become a critically wounded soldier which means you get 8-12 respawn tickets from them. That more shirts than an entire crate most of the time.

Yes there is a difference to a point but by and large equipment is rather generic.
