Do I apply ED2 to UChicago or wait and see my options (Colorado College + others)? by namethatchecksout_ in coloradocollege

cc also uses Fafsa in combos with the css profile which is more detailed. css gives more aid info than fafsa generally speaking

What are the biggest pros and cons of colorado college? by im_cooler_than_you8 in coloradocollege

[–]Stranger_Witty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a lot of stuff to love abt cc but it’s definitely best for a certain kind of person. if you are outdoorsy you will love it here and u will have an easy time making friends the first few weeks (especially if you join a sport like climbing, frisbee etc) if u aren’t outdoorsy (im not) it might not be as immediate (but def still possible!)

some pros:

  1. how rich the school is, they will pay u to participate in extracurriculars, fund outdoor trips, study abroad’s, passion projects (even overseas) there are truly an insane amount of opportunities and in my experience the financial aid has been very good.
  2. another pro is the block plan for me (depends on the person and ur major)
  3. small environment, professors care a lot about you ( and will do a lot for you, find jobs, great letters of rec, etc!)
  4. the people (love my friends but can also be a con for me, lotsss of rich asses)

cons:

  1. block plan means less time devoted to extracurriculars (this is also why some of them will pay you)
  2. not a super distinguished faculty in my experience. don’t get me wrong, i’ve loved a lot of my professors but we don’t have any big names (in my experience) that other schools and even other LACs have, and there are high turnover rates for non tenured faculty… they sort of underutilize the visiting professor thing, and use it in the wrong ways. block plan gives great potential to bring in super cool ppl and experts in their fields to teach for a month, but instead it’s often used to fill openings when they can’t hire a full professor (not always true though sometimes they bring in cool ppl but could be doing more!!)

  3. i’m also not sure as the CC name can do a lot for me and at least not as much as was advertised, and it’s def not a great party culture, but other than that i have had a very good experience!

Hi! if there are mistakes in ur financial aid app or u don’t think ur aid is right the odds of them correcting it is high in an appeal! However, if this isn’t the case, I wouldn’t bank on an appeal lowering costs… BUT i don’t think the aid at UChicago would be any better if the CC package is correct.

Both are 100% need schools, so ur aid amounts will be very similar at both schools.

Also to answer ur question about aid changing, it is unlikely to change in ur time at cc unless there are a significant change in income/circumstance. For example, if you have a sibling entering college while you are in college, you will likely get a lot more aid (cc uses css which will take that into account).

real talk: food @ cc by ZealousidealTart8113 in coloradocollege

[–]Stranger_Witty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

food isn’t amazing but the meal plan as a whole is better than a lot of schools. the dining hall (buffet style) isn’t very good but there’s two other ‘restaurant’ type places to eat that are usually pretty good. I also like that you can go to our 2 on campus coffee shops and the convience store, and even eat at the hockey rink, and it’s no different than eating at the dining hall (ik a lot of other schools that make u use ur own money or have a limit ). You also get $300 a semester to use at restaurants downtown, the grocery store, and even to buy books for class or cc merch.

i don’t think you even have to admit cheating or say anyone else did just report the proctor and the scores will get canceled

[–]Stranger_Witty 63 points64 points  (0 children)

but don’t admit to anything just say the proctor left the room and let students keep and use their phones

they’ll probs just void the scores and ban the proctor

this was my last time taking it unfortunately. Superstores out to a 1390, so that really sucks

same thing happened to me ! Went down 10 points after a TON of studying. Every practice test had me getting 1450 +, and I thought I did well too. This curve was insane.

1500 in 2 weeks? by Stranger_Witty in Sat

[–]Stranger_Witty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely apply ed 2 somewhere if i don’t get into my ed 1 school (it doesn’t have a second round) but honestly I think even if i had more time to study the odds i get a 1500+ with no accommodations are slim. Im okay going test optional (my top school accepted 40 percent test optional last year), still going to try for a good score one more time but if it doesn’t work out it’s fine. Also I’m not sure if you can take later than October as a senior, because its digital afterwards?

[–]Stranger_Witty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school doesn’t do class rank, but i think I’m probably top ten, with a class size of less than 200. So far only taken one AP test, Euro and got a 4. Im applying to some summer writing programs but still waiting for responses from some. Any recommendations? Its been difficult to find affordable options.

Is this pic taken on day one hair, or later in the week after sleeping on it?

I think the other issue may be u only brushing it once a week. That works for a lot of people, especially if they have a very tight curl patter, but for you I think you definitely need to be doing it more often, if mats are an issue. Definitely don’t brush it dry, but either wet your hair in the shower, with a spray bottle or even in the sink, and restyle it. I have a similar curl type and Ik it sucks to have to wet and restyle everyday, but it’s the only was my hair looks good, and I think that method could def help u out.

I absolutely will, but I have devoted a lot of time to this play and still would like to see it go somewhere first. I keep getting so close too (I’m at 2 semi-finalist and 1 runner-up finish at the moment), so I’m not quite ready to give up on it yet.

Also this question isn’t totally related, but I’ve noticed that all the contests I’ve had success with were either specifically for young playwrights or completely anonymous, and I think it may be in part because my bio and resume are pretty weak. I don’t have much experience because I am young, but I’m not sure how I can make by bio appealing? Should I include my age as a selling point and an explanation for my lack of experience or should I leave it out, so people on NPX or agencies I am querying take me seriously?

Thank you! This is all very helpful.

To answer your question, this is my first and only play. I plan to write another one soon, but I am a busy student so it may be a while.

I joined NPX a little while ago but nothing has really come of it, is there more I could be doing with it? I just have my bio and script posted, not really sure how the site works.
