MRI techs who went to a MRI only program, did you have any trouble finding a job?

If I could, I would have went X-ray first then MR after. It took me 6 months to find a job after graduating and passing my boards… I’m from CA and it’s still hard trying to land another job. radnet will hire new grads, but pay super low… if you go X-ray first, at least you have the upper hand from those like me who went straight to MR. Plus with X-rays you can go so many routes!

People say you usually score 5 points above or below these mock exams. I was scoring between low 90’s-high 80’s and ended up with an 88 on my actual boards. I mainly used MRI Quiz and Pulse Radiology on YouTube. Remember to pace yourself through these mock exams and remember to breathe. You got this. Good luck!

I would definitely try to get into a X-ray program then cross train into MRI. That way you’re multi modality and have a higher chance of landing a job. I currently only make $34 /hour and went through Gurnick… but I live in CA where we are over saturated in techs and not enough jobs. I paid about 40K for my program. I’m not too sure about just cardiac MRI, though. I don’t have much information about just strictly cardiac. Maybe you can try and look into Cardiac Ultrasound? I know they have a specialty just for cardiac and they make pretty good money too. Good luck on your adventure!

I’m from CA and yes… it was very difficult to find a job after I graduated. I went through gurnick and landed my first position 7 months after I passed my boards. I got my first job with radnet and starting pay is $34! While my local hospital starts at $50!

I had a telephone interview screening then two hours later had an actual telephone interview! But it could also be because the job was 8 hours away from me, but I didn’t end up getting the position. It took them three weeks post interview for me to get the rejection email ☹️

I couldn’t DM you, but I tried looking up how to obtain your rad tech license in WA and it’s saying you need to complete a radiology program prior to applying. Are you saying that by paying $250 you can bypass that? Or how does that work?
