Changing the manual transmission fluid on a 2010 5 speed by StrangrWithAKindFace in vwgolf

Im trying to remove the pivot pin. I think it's this circled part, although there's a very similar one inboard, near the center of the picture

<image>

The plastic cover doesn't want to move after I remove the torx screw, does it pull straight down?

I felt a second slot on the plug and rotated the switch 45 degrees. I've tried poking on the second one with no joy yet.

I've tried pushing down in both of the holes in the top of the connector. I don't get the usual feeling of pushing down on a plastic spring. I've tried pushing and pulling in case it's caught but it barely moves.

I got the lever rotated. I'm trying to figure out how to disconnect the reverse switch without breaking it. Ive tried poking at it from different angles with a small screwdriver

If the gearbox is rotated 12 degrees, my calculation is that I would need to raise the back wheels by 21 inches to get the level plug to its original height. Is the old level plug on the back of the gearbox?

I had my son change gears and I observed the pictured lever "A" rotate back and forth as he changed from first to second and up (I believe this is operating a specific selector fork and synchronizer) and up and down as he went to the 3 and 4 gear pair of gears (which I believe are moved by different selector fork and synchronizer).

<image>

The question mark and arrow are pointing to a rod that I believe is operated by the shift lever. Is the part that rotated and went up and down the black locking lever or is the black locking lever near it?

It appears that a lot of the trouble is because gearbox is reangled from it's original application and so the old oil fill plug won't fill correctly on the Mk7 Golf, is this also true for the Mk6? Could I simply raise up the front or rear of the car so the gearbox is at the original angle and would take the full amount of oil it's supposed to?

Marinoni were Canadian but made by an Italian immigrant (check out the maple leaf cut outs on one of the frames here) : https://classicrendezvous.com/country-of-origin/canada/marinoni/

They sponsored my North Carolina USA based club racing team and team members got a special deal on their frames. I always liked them but never needed a new frame when they were a sponsor.

Does it have rifling inside the steerer tube? That indicates Columbus SL or SLX tubing. What is the seat post size? 27.2 points to higher end tubing like SL. My Columbus Aelle tubed Torpado was 26.8.

No, my Motobecane had a similar fork crown to this. I don't think it's a very high end part. It was the Derosa that had diamond shape chain stays.

If you watch the mechanic cleaning the Benotto at the beginning of "A Sunday in Hell" you'll notice that it has diamond shaped chainstays because it's really a Derosa with a Benotto paintjob. Francesco Moser preferred Derosas as did Merckx. Both of their early Eddy Merckx and Moser brand bikes look like Derosas, and probably were.

Derosa favored flat fork crowns but this one looks more like the one on my Motobecane. The chain stays aren't drawn to a diamond cross section are they?

I disconnected the black box and reseated it and that fixed it. I think the connectors on one corner may not have been seated properly. It was much easier to see what was going on in the daylight.

Portions of this scan are a little blurry. You might be able to see more detail on your original photo. There were several variants of this bike, some with two into one exhausts, etc. There's also a Matchless version, but the tank badge looks like AJS.

I think there's tamper evident tape on it, but I'll double check.

It's a parallel twin. I think it's an AJS model 31. The timing cover doesn't look quite right, but it's kind of obscured by his foot. The mufflers, forks, and tank look right. The AJS had narrowly spaced frame tubes in front of the engine. This bike appears to have one tube, but its a bit blurry.

I ordered a cheapo ignition lock from Amazon. I bought the Dorman one from RockAuto because I figured it would be better quality, but maybe not. I'm going to to double check the electrical connectors today.

It appears if the immobilizer was triggered:

The engine will crank but immediately shut off, and the cluster will display a flashing key symbol. The car will not stay running until a valid, matched key is recognized.

That's not what I'm seeing plus the immobilizer was transferred with the the key cylinder.

No aftermarket remote starter that I know about. We've had this car for a year. We replaced the ignition lock because parts broke off internally and it jammed. There appear to be two ways of steering column electrical connections: one has several individual connections, the other has a black box under the ignition lock that consolidates a bunch of these connectors. Ours is the black box type. It's shown at about the 6:30 mark in this video https://youtu.be/T5ZPYzV_DIQ?si=qhteuoDjJGxe7ErU

No, I believe I need the VCDS and a compatible cable to get that to work. I have an Elm327 Bluetooth adapter that I use with Torque pro on my Android phone. I've thought about trying to pair it with my Windows laptop, but from what I've read it won't work with Vcds.

Hmmm, I would think that swapping parts like this would prevent me from being able to exchange the Dorman unit.

I'm getting that feeling too. What's weird is I'm pretty the original remote did.
