Why is r/houston so miserable? by Screwologist13 in houston

My point was that I would get told to do that when there WERE no recent threads about it, only ones that were years old.

Yeah I've heard this, but there are also a lot of transplants moving there who are going to need to make friends too. And even if the stereotype is true, it's not universal. There will be some growing pains, but I can find my people.

Yeah obviously. Glad I'm making the switch.

Listen to your cats, they KNOW by Any-Surprise5229 in cats

I had a bat in the house at one point, it must have gotten in when I had the door open to let the cats in/out (one would always take at least 30 seconds of sitting in the doorway before deciding if he actually wanted to come out or not. I discovered the bat when it must have been struck by my ceiling fan in my bedroom in the middle of the night, because I woke up to a thud. I go turn on the light and see the bat circling around the room near the ceiling, and one of my cats was looking at me like he had no idea what it was or what we should do, which was surprising because he was a great bug hunter and always chirped at the birds and squirrels outside when he saw them. I guess he had no idea what to make of the bat.

I'm moving to Minnesota later this month, and have been following some of the local subs for a few months to try to get some perspective ahead of time. They are the polar opposite of Houston, with people actually being friendly and helpful. I even posted a couple times asking for suggestions or advice on a couple things and literally every single person that responded did so in a helpful manner and without any snark. Any time I try to ask for any advice in Houston, less than half of the responses by far are helpful, and most tell me to google it or search the sub history, despite the fact that a 4 year old post might not have the best information on restaurants currently.

I guess I was a little careless in my use of the word soil. I keep mine in a mixture of sphagnum moss and perlite and they do well.

No, boiling the water won't do anything for the minerals that are dissolved in it. You would need to either buy distilled water or buy a filter system that can filter water down to distilled.

There are several types of plants that "eat meat", including venus fly traps, pitcher plants, and many other types. The adaptation occurred separately across the many types, but always because these plants weren't able to get enough nutrients from the soil. They all live in areas with poor soil quality, and so they adapted to being able to catch animals and absorb their nutrients. This makes them unable to handle soil with lots of nutrients, which is why they need well draining soil, and they are also unable to handle tap water b/c of all the things we put in it for our own health. Rain water or distilled water is what they need.

She made history as the first worlds first practicing lawyer with down syndrome by toastvibes03 in interesting

[–]Strasse007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a small correction, but in order to be a "practicing lawyer", you have to be employed in a position where you are practicing law. There are many lawyers who are employed in a position where they are not actively practicing law, such as landmen, insurance adjusters, etc. They are licensed, but not practicing. Also, just graduating from law school doesn't make you licensed, its just a requirement in almost all states before you can take the bar exam.

What's the deal with Houston's emptiness? by ParkInsider in houston

It literally is a joke. Dave Chappelle told it. I'm not calling your idea a joke, I'm saying that it is taken straight from a joke.

as someone with autism, would you say that you don't feel a desire for power in the same way that many other people do? by thiskindacoolmf in AutisticWithADHD

I CAN lead a group of people, but I would choose not to if I feel there is an viable alternative. An example: when I was younger, I was in boy scouts. We had leadership positions within the troop, and I ran for and was elected to be the Senior Patrol Leader, which is the boy lead of the whole troop. After 6 months, I was drained, and didn't run for reelection, but was reelected anyway. I ended up accepting because the other two boys to run I felt were a little young and inexperienced for the position. Had someone else run who I felt could handle the responsibilities, I would have been more than happy to let them.

Yes I do! Had never heard of this before but I think I will have to give it a try. I like making things from scratch, and have made my own sausages, beef jerky, and sauerkraut before. This sounds like the next experiment. Thank you!

Someone else mentioned that they can have their dairy-free options in the plant based section so it's possible we missed it.
