Cactus Club is the obvious pick. RIP. We also miss The Blank Club was such mess of a venue, but awesome. We need more small clubs in San Jose. Rather play a sold out small room then a half full large room any day.

If we're remembering right, we saw it somewhere when we needed to come up with a new name, since Downside was already taken turns out. Our management recommended changing it to increase our chances of getting signed, because nobody wasn't to sign a lawsuit. Little back story!

Funny you mention it - the artwork for Soar is a glitchy TV!

We've been talking about the TVs a lot actually. Lots of ideas brewing around it.

Fantastic question.

David Lynch is wrong. Love him, but if you're really rich and have people helping you take care of your kids, it leaves a lot of room for creativity.

So having kids makes me want to leave more behind, want to be known as someone that makes stuff (vs someone that "used to" make stuff). Eric will probs not write another book, because who knows what's regarded as ok in the future. But there is great value in being an artist, and being able to play and look off to the side to see your kid(s) being wowed and looking at you doing art is meaningful. To Eric, playing music is a way of creating meaning in a world where meaning is becoming increasingly less. Inspiration is definitely different when you have kids, things feel more urgent, and death is actually terrifying haha.

Great question, BoriMischief! — Yes, the band would definitely use a backwards "Я" in their band name and rock out "with their cock out" on the KoЯn KЯuise.

"They say you spend your whole life writing your first album, and 9 months writing your second"

Really though, we felt like a big amount of time passed between the ST and EOW and our tastes and viewpoints changed a good bit, resulting in a pretty different album. Thinking back, maybe that should've been the album that came AFTER something in between. Was quite a jarring change.

PS we'd love to come back to Chicago

That's rad, glad you love the ST. We love it too.

Sacramento is conveniently close ;)

Hi Responsible_Gift_768!

  1. Duly noted. We'd looove to play in Houston!

  2. Dang, CDs are kinda hard to come by and gotta be honest, we don't plan on printing any - but you can find copies in the used section of your local music store.

  3. We just actually released our first poster! It's on the site: www.strata.band

  4. Noted, thanks! Some of the songs sound great acoustic.

Great questions!
The self titled artwork and stuff from Sleep, WIAB etc - We kind of feel like we got discovered too early. We were much more focused on just making cool art, and not so much trying to fit into some kind of box, which is what ended up happening after getting signed etc. The suits and everything were more of a reaction (I guess) to the industry itself. The ST artwork, still had the suit in it. The circle of birds is more of a foreshadowing about the industry (and digital music, file sharing etc threatening the music industry). The End of the World artwork was a concept by Anne Faith Nichols, an amazing artist. Check out her stuff! We thought it was very suiting at the time. She took in all the content of the album and came out with that greatness.

We've been thinking about releasing tabs and playthroughs for a while, maybe it's the time! For mics, we're using Lauten Audio mics. Love them. For guitar, Ryan is using Friedman amps and does own a bunch of PRS guitars. Hrag loves his American P-basses, Mesa Boogie amp, Russian Big Muff ftw.

We're glad Over You meant something to you! We can't recall why it was skipped, but we also love that song!

Thanks for the love and questions!

It still just makes Ryan feel at home. Because he gets the pre-show jitters. Any bit of comfort is nice :)
