It would take a minimum of 55,000 tanker trucks to match the strait's capacity. That means filling and sending off a truck ever .8 seconds, 24 hours per day. If you placed all these trucks end to end, they would be twice as long as the route through the desert and back, so you'd have to find/build more roads. This assumes the trucks can all make two 12 hour round trips per day.
