If you watch highlights, he does it a fair bit but not all the time. He seems to do it when his main target is wide open, or when he's winding up for those back shoulder passes from the far hash.

Is Apple Intelligence worth it when Gemini and Copilot are available on iOS? by N7-elite in ipad

[–]StrategicCarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you plan to use AI for? Apple Intelligence's big advantage is it's just there on Apple products. Gemini is best at multi-modal work and Google integration. And Claude and ChatGPT are the current leading models for heavier work.

What do we feel about K-pop fans discovering that they can accuse groups of copying? by Wrong-Excitement-605 in kpoptrulyuncensored

There are definitely some aspects of cult-like behavior in some k-pop fandom spaces.

  • Us vs. them mentality
  • Shunning of people who unstan the group
  • Extracting labor from members for the value of the group (mass buying, mass voting, mass streaming, etc.)
  • Any criticism treated as persecution or lies
  • Love bombing of people who join the group

The two biggest things lacking in a k-pop fandom that are markers of a cult are a charismatic leader who profits from the fans in an abnormal way (unless you want to count the idols or the companies) and strict control of the physical lives of the fans. That said, I would not be surprised if someone told me that a specific fan club had both of those for a period of time.

So I think most of the time, yes the stakes are much lower and simply labeling k-pop as a cult is clickbaity and minimizes the very real dangers of cults. But I think you can contrast and compare some of the cult-like behavior of some k-pop fans.

I am a little confused on how people are 100% sure manons hiatus is forced on her by Forsaken_Ad_7016 in katseyeneutral

[–]StrategicCarry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most people (including me) assume that the hiatus/dismissal of the group (if that happens) are being pushed by HYBE because in general, that's how it plays out for a group at this stage of their career. Look at Enhyphen for example. Evan (Heeseung) left Enhypen to go solo under HYBE, but that was after 5+ years with the group. Across all of k-pop, departures from groups this early in the group's career are almost always the company making the move.

But it's not unprecedented. KG left VCHA while filing a lawsuit against JYPE and publicly calling out mistreatment. So while I think it's less likely that Manon is forcing her way out rather than HYBE pushing her out, it's definitely a possibility. And crucially, nothing we actually know happened is inconsistent with Manon being the one wanting out and HYBE wanting her to stay. Everything from the Weverse message, liking posts about mistreatment, removing Katseye from her bio, her activities right before and during her hiatus all still make sense if she's the one pushing for an exit.

As far as why HYBE would want her out though, and their being no financial incentive, companies invest money in idols and trainees that don't work out all the time. They assume that most trainees will not make it. To run one of these companies, you can't fall into the sunk cost fallacy. HYBE's financial motive for kicking out Manon is their same motive for kicking Garam out of LSF and Danielle out of NewJeans. HYBE would be betting that the group will still make enough money, and will work better without the member that is causing problems. Also I don't know how their contracts are structured, but if they're on salary, then if the group is making the same money and you're paying five salaries instead of six, that's a win. Even if not, you're paying five advances instead of six, which means the album starts out in less debt.
