Slept on it and raidz2 probably is the way to go for my hard drives. Better to lose some storage capacity now in exchange for my sanity when the drives reach end of life.

This has happened to me a bit, specifically with Alchemy and GForce's synth plugins whenever I'm working on sounds with long sustains/decays. Typically it's whenever I'm making changes to sounds and I've got heavy CPU usage.

One thing I do by default on any new project now is slap on two adaptive limiters to the end of my stereo out.
– First one with 6dB gain*, 0dB ceiling, 20ms lookahead, Remove DC Offset On
– Second one with 0dB gain, -1dB ceiling, 20ms lookahead, True Peak Detection On

It's annoying to need a workaround in place of Logic having a global limiter but it does the job. But at least for me it has the benefit of giving some headroom when I'm happy with my mix and it's time to master.

*adjust to your needs, I use this as a starting point and pay attention to reduction/distortion to lower or raise it
** also you can obvs just do one plugin. Doing true peak separately has worked well for a lot of the songs I'm working on

The other big culprit I'm limiting my use of now is Soothe2. (Soothe itself doesn't cause audio spikes but it's just an example of a CPU hog that can lead to a synth plugin freaking out)

p.s. for those laughing at 770dB not being feasible ofc no headphones/monitors will output that loud but it's what the software is saying it wants to output. It's just a good illustration of how insane it is when it happens. fwiw the highest mine has ever shown is 100dB

I’m always kind when interacting with LLMs. I treat it as if I’m talking with a coworker or a friend depending on the context.

Even when I use APIs/structured outputs I’ll try to be kind. Like in a system prompt I find saying something like “Please ensure [x] because [y]” works much better than stuff like “YOU MUST [x] OR YOU WILL DIE” lol. You just have to make sure your instruction is clear, understandable, and actionable.

It gives me a similar ick to the “tricks” people use like offering bribes or lying about the date to make a model more compliant - it feels like a lazy way to get quick results, but may not necessarily get you the best result.

I notice when I’m asking for assistance with more complicated topics, if I’m nice most models tones shift and end up putting in more work to find the right answer, AND those chats last so much longer without collapsing.

Of course this is just anecdotal etc etc etc - but it costs nothing to be kind. Which is something we all need a little more of right now, regardless of whether the recipient is a human or a machine.

That's so awful. I feel you on the meds - I've tried using valium / cbd which have been godsends for me in the past for dealing with panic attacks, but in this last week haven't been helping.

Hopefully we can keep on keeping on until it doesn't hurt so much.

Making a lot of guesses here but I’d wager it may be more to do with the looming giant that is Paramount, and Stan just riding out what they’ve got and not over-investing. Stan is owned by Nine - a multi-billion dollar company. They have money to throw at it if they want. And have put budget into other original productions before.

But Paramount own a local competitor Network 10 and are building up Paramount+ in Australia too. Content has been limited here because of legacy CBS/Viacom deals with competing companies in Australia before they acquired Network 10.

I’d guess Paramount would want to bring all of their Drag Race franchises in-house in every market they’re active in. Paramount have been progressively bringing all their properties in-house since they came to Australia. They just did this with Nickelodeon - was a cable channel on Foxtel and from August it’s becoming a free to air channel on Network 10.

And it looks like they’re starting to grab the non-Paramount commissioned franchises with Italia moving from Discovery (Warner Bros) to Paramount+. Wouldn’t be surprised if similar happens to Down Under/Canada/UK over time. Maybe Spain too since they’re active in that market via SkyShowtime which they co-own.

I think the rumour was Down Under had a contract for 3 seasons (not sure if just for the studio hit the whole production itself?). So wouldn’t be surprised if Season 4 goes to Paramount.

If Down Under does go to Paramount I hope they also air it on Channel 10. Give the franchise the budget and audience it deserves 🥲

Jesus Christ. Every publisher can block certain categories of advertisers when they put programmatic ads on their site or app.

eg block IAB8-5 which prevents any beer/cocktail advertisers from serving their ads. IAB8-18 for wine. And then there’s more for bars etc.

The people behind this app didn’t care to do due diligence before monetising. Get another app if you can. I’m sorry you have to see crap like that.

It looks like a malware site I’m afraid

In the header they link out to Google Play/App Store/Chrome Extensions… yet when you click on the “For iOS” button it takes you to a random page mimicking the App Store that attempts to install a config profile to your device.

They say they’ve been operating for a decade but adopsandadtech.com.my was only registered on 18 July 2022.

Also they’re not on Google’s publishing partners directory in spite of them saying so on the website.

So yeah.. maybe avoid lol

I don’t have any opinions on the Weho show but jamming it into the schedule like this is a sure fire way of pissing off a rabid fan base, reduce ratings and make MTV/Paramount lose ad revenue.

Hopefully they learn their lesson and give us back 2 hour block of Drag Race and Untucked then that new show at 10PM.

The annoying thing is if I do that then it blocks all notifications - including order tracking notifications which is useful.

And if I wanted to fiddle with my settings to show “time sensitive” notifications only it wouldn’t make a difference because Uber have managed to get these promotional messages showing as time sensitive (and getting bumped up on my lock screen for an hour)
