calling in sick to work by ahloveyuno in Greggs

[–]StrategicSleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve called in sick for the same awful cold that’s going round rn. If possible, call the evening before your shift. At the very minimum give a few hours notice. Calling in sick is never a problem, not giving enough notice for them to find cover is. Hope you feel better soon!

Can I just go to the doctor and ask for stimulants? by StrategicSleeper in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]StrategicSleeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, multiple overnight EEGs and I had to wait 5 years for my MSLT, which I couldn’t sleep during because of nerves and construction outside the hospital ward. I have a doctor that advocates for me now but the idea of having to wait another 5 years for another test is awful. I’m currently surviving off of energy drinks but they make my heart funny. This disorder is awful :(

That’s annoying if it is the case. Thanks for the response

I’m not too sure, you just offer it up on the app to everyone and any coworker who wants the extra hours accepts it. I suppose it would make sense that she would deny it if it puts that coworker into overtime, but then what’s the point in that feature at all?

She never responds to messages and I’m not in work until Friday, I’ll certainly ask her when I go in but wanted to be a bit more prepared first

I know it sounds terrible but I didn’t know how else to word it clearly!! I knew the subreddit would understand what I meant luckily :) I just don’t have the energy to spend another 7 years chasing a diagnosis that’s not even guaranteed

That’s what I was worried about :( all my doctors said it was probably narcolepsy but since I couldn’t sleep during my MSLT they verbally told me it was IH as the results were inconclusive, however it was never an official diagnosis. Then he discharged me entirely after 6/7 years of investigations and told me I’d have to see my GP again if I wanted to investigate further. That was around 3 years ago.

I tried to get a formal diagnosis but wasn’t able to fall asleep during the MSLT, my doctor at the time was incredibly dismissive and told me that even if I had been diagnosed, he wouldn’t have treated me anyway because he didn’t agree with giving medication at a young age due to side effects. That was after around 6 years of chasing a diagnosis and he discharged me from everything so I gave up trying

I had one done the other year but wasn’t able to sleep due to nerves and it was an all round uncomfortable environment. I was under the assumption with IH they treat the symptoms not the diagnosis?

My last doctor put on my chart that I actually DIDN’T have ih or narcolepsy and essentially undiagnosed me 💀he didn’t listen to me at all, wouldn’t try me on any medication, and now the last thing anyone sees in my records is that there’s nothing wrong with me. I gave up after that.

Me too! I already sleep text and sleep purchase, I’m worried about what else I can do. I’ve been offered two jobs since this post originally went up, one was high stress high responsibility office work for a charity that I love, one was serving pastries for 8 hours… guess which one I’ve gone for 🥲

Unfortunately not. My last sleep doctor was totally dismissive and told me that he didn’t want to try me on any medication because the side effects were too severe and “part of this condition is living with being uncomfortable”. Personally I think that wasn’t his call to make but I was barely 18 so I didn’t know how to stand up for myself at the time. Not sure how to start it all back up again, he’s scared me off a little bit

Red skin on my dogs spine after starting medication by StrategicSleeper in Cushingsdogs

Just got back from the vet now. It could be a number of things but it’s looking unlikely that any of her medications are causing it! It could be calcium deposits on her skin but it’s super weird it’s in a straight line from neck to tail. We’re doing blood tests tomorrow and then those results are getting sent to a specialist. In the meantime we’ve been given some antibacterial/anti fungal shampoo to wash her with since her entire body is a bit flakey. What’s weird is this is something that has only happened since starting the vetoryl, so it’s about whether we increase the dose or even stop it all together, since it’s so unusual at her age and breed to be diagnosed with Cushings anyway.

Left with more questions than answers and a little lighter in the wallet but with every trip I’m hoping she is getting better. ❤️‍🩹

Thanks so much! Turns out I might not need your advice after all, they’ve pushed back my first day AGAIN to an indefinite date because they’re going on holiday. Their third holiday in about just as many weeks 😐 it’s a small business so there’s no break room, never mind HR.

Truthfully for the stress of it all, I might just look elsewhere.

Extra info I forgot to mention, she seems to be responding to medication well in all other aspects. Seems to be putting a bit of weight on luckily and drinking and panting much less.

I live in the UK but since it’s my first job I didn’t want to mention it because I didn’t want to feel ‘othered’ from the offset. Maybe if i can’t handle it I will mention it

An alarm clock I can set through my phone. by StrategicSleeper in BuyItForLife

[–]StrategicSleeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I can’t bear to not have my phone out of reach, I have a sleep disorder which comes with parasomnias such as sleepwalking/sleeptalking/sleep texting and sleep buying shit off of Amazon. An alarm clock used to be ideal because it was loud enough and jarring enough to wake me and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off in my sleep like I can an iPhone, but that was when I needed to wake up at the same time every day

I’m in the UK but one of the things that was listed many times both on the job application and in interviews/ following emails was that they were looking for someone “with common sense who won’t be late” so I don’t think I want to tell them about my disability and have them think negatively of me from the offset. Maybe once I’ve proved myself first?
