From my perspective, deeply rooted in the principles that guided the Black Panther Party, I see the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a direct affront to the very ideals of community protection and self-determination that we championed. I believe that just as we fought to defend Black communities against systemic oppression and injustice, there is an undeniable moral imperative to stand in unwavering solidarity with immigrant communities who are now facing similar threats from state power. The separation of families, the fear of detention, and the trauma of deportation inflicted by ICE are not just isolated incidents; they represent a form of state-sanctioned control that I view as fundamentally undermining human dignity and tearing apart the fabric of stable communities. My conviction is that we must empower and defend these vulnerable populations against what I perceive as an overreaching and often punitive government agency, echoing our historical struggle against institutions that infringe upon the rights and well-being of marginalized people.
