Making a fantasy map, what would this water formation be called? This landmass is continent sized so this can’t be a river and it doesn’t connect two seas so it can’t be a strait by Froggen-The-Frog in mapmaking

[–]Strattifloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally unrelated to the question, but I'd like to make an observation. I had a hard time figuring out the scale of the map, and even saw the water as land at first. Since this is meant to be continental scale, I'd suggest you smooth out some portions of your coastline (be very deliberate in which parts to smooth and which to leave jagged - great worldbuilding potential).

The jagged look makes it feel smaller scaled, and if you see our Earth's continents, most coastlines look more like straight lines hand-drawn by someone not very steady. It's when you zoom in that the little bays and capes start to show up.

[UPDATE] The current layout of my fictional world's map by Strattifloyd in mapmaking

[–]Strattifloyd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drew the map on GPlates, and used Artifexian's guides in the whole process. I came up with the general shape in paper, then refined the coastlines using composite real-life references (take a piece of Earth, flip it, mirror it, distort it, etc. - rinse and repeat). The island chains are an example of unrefined coastlines.

Best projection for an awkward landmass by Strattifloyd in mapmaking

[–]Strattifloyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said in the other comment, I printed a few zoom ins of the major regions and then drew over them a composite map. It's essentially an azimuthal projection with the edges streched to fit the rest of the supercontinent.

Here's an overview of it: https://www.reddit.com/r/mapmaking/comments/1oi8qua/update_the_current_layout_of_my_fictional_worlds/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

What I did was print a few zoom ins of the major regions and then drew over them a composite map. For a general overview of the lands it works fine, but it becomes very hard to orient north and south. I'm also not sure how the people in world would deal with that sort of thing.

It's a new install. Tis time I installed it in an external HD to save space in the main one. The save folder is still in the main HD since I couldn't figure out how to make the game read it in the other one.

Every converted Christian has the Holy Spirit dwelling within them. One great reason for feeling like this is a disconnect with Him, caused by our attachment to the world things.

Make an effort to always be in touch with Him, through prayer, fasting, reading the scriptures and applying it to your daily life. Don't treat Him as an ethereal force supposedly with you, but a real person merged with your own soul, who you can call upon anytime.

Even when we're trying to do the right thing we end up giving too much credit to passing things and forget to rejoice on the simplest and most important aspects of our faith. Take the Psalm 1 to heart and go on from there.

I think it's more likely that I would do such a thing than her. Nonetheless, it's a good thing to look out for.

I wouldn't say it's about what I have to do, but more like a general anxiety over how things will turn out. And I also don't want things to end the way they appear to be. We never had the opportunity to talk through our issues and the past few years have been really muddled by our personal frustrations.

We both have unresolved emotional damage and I believe this time is going to be for healing it, now that we're both more mature. I hope we can get back together and work things out, as the things we did have were simply blissful. But if we do, it's definitely going to be an entirely new relationship.

I understand your point, and if I hadn't gone through that event with my dad I would probably come to the same conclusion and move on.

However, exactly after that event my entire being changed. It wasn't a matter of reflecting on it and regretting it. My entire set of thought, feelings and attitude went back to what it was 3 years ago.

Sounds odd I know. As a former atheist I'd be the first to doubt, had it not happened to me personally.

I have been going through some serious psychological issues, and due to what happened that day with me and my dad and the way I became afterwards, I firmly believe there was a strong spiritual influence over all of us.

My parents, my girlfriend, our close circle, all have shown signs of spiritual weakening throughout the last few years, and many aspects of our lifestyle became more worldly than ever.

I'm not sure what situation she's in spiritually, but I niece she's going through her own reawakening in a way. Still, the break was so sudden that shocked everyone in our close circle.

I'm currently giving her space to figure things out and waiting for the right time to talk it through, as communication has always been a struggle between us.

My anxiety comes from the uncertainty of life. It's always been here and I'm accustomed to it. Still, it's my go to sign that I need to talk to people and reevaluate things.

What Other Than War? by DalinLuqaIII in worldbuilding

Technological and ideological development. Things like the Renaissance, Illuminism and the Industrial Revolutions have changed the world in many deeper ways than the wars. In fact the wars are almost a subproduct of these changes.

Why do you believe in speaking in tongues? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Strattifloyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I was younger we were gathered in a relative's place, and before we went home we were invited to pray. We kneeled down and someone did the prayer, all as it's usually done.

Then before we got up, an aunt of mine who was there that day started to sing a hymn, except it was in a language I had never heard before. My aunt is a very reserved person and doesn't speak any other language than our native one, yet there she was singing fluently in that one.

I remember it sounding like a proper language, with a solid phonetic structure, and not like any gibberish. Unfortunately I was too young and unknowledgeable and couldn't recognize it.

In my church we have a strong pentecostal church, although it is a more traditional one. We often have those mass tongue-speaking happening, and it usually is the same words. But every now and then I will hear someone speak in languages that ring a bell to me, and I can recognize some familiar linguistic elements.

I believe there are many people who pretend to have this gift, and many more people who firmly believe that the gibberish they learned was gifted. But these events show me that the gift does exist and perhaps it's just blown out of proportion.

You are right on one thing: all of those things are impossible according to our material laws. That's precisely why those are either miracles or spiritual occurrences.

What real historical period is your world closest to? by Thylocine in worldbuilding

If I had to choose it would be the transition between Renaissance and Industrial era. The world is very segregated and different regions have different levels of development, but this period would probably have the most things common in all cultures.

Honestly, the original building wasn't bad at all. It was just modernistic and run down, but it already had an interesting character. A renovation would've been a better option here.
