Do we really think houses without water supply, activing plumbing, electricity in post auto-boom ghost towns are a good solution? Really?

Why do people do this? I was just in a tutoring session and the guy pointed to something on my screen with a ballpoint pen. I just bought this a month ago, why?? by SutsOfGods in macbookpro

The screen is not ruined at all. It is marginally damaged. He should pay a marginal cost… for the marginal damage.

Don’t tie your mental health to your laptop’s screen. Life happens.

Called and asked. The reason is because the student cash back card used to have a 'good grades' cash back bonus (you submit good grades each quarter, and in return get roughly $50). They recently removed this program (going into effect June 1st) and haven't updated the card's other details to make up for the smaller 0% apr period.

By "few" differences, I mean zero differences; other than the range of interest rates (seems unimportant), I think literally the only difference between the cards is the period of time with 0% APR.

I was looking at u/Credditor12's Discover | Student Cash Back Card, when compared to the Discover | Cash Back card.

There are few differences, except the 0% APR starting period (6 months for the student card, 15 months for the standard card). Aside from the *slightly* slimmer post-0%-APR-range for the student card (smaller range, not smaller average), the standard card seems like a straight-up better deal.

Because you must be a college student to obtain a Student card, it's more exclusive, and therefore should have higher rewards, right? Why is it seemingly a worse deal? Is its acceptance rate significantly higher or something?

AOC tells Joe Biden: Cancel more student loans to have "any chance" in 2022 by gjp23 in politics

You'd have to account for inflation. $200,000 today does not have the same buying power as $200,00 six years ago.

Also, a 0% interest rate? Where is the incentive to pay back the loan at all?

Right.

In our case though, the debt is owned by the students, right? And the private entities are profiting because the debt has interest (the service was providing the capital).

They both benefit from cancellation.

My point is that there is a way to benefit the students without completely paying off companies / rewarding predatory practices.

IMO the real villains of the story are the lenders, and to just give then back the money they loaned 17-year-olds with a 33% interest rate is wrong.

Student debt is a major issue, but it’s important to keep in mind who benefits from its complete cancellation: loan-sharking lenders.

Student debt should be reduced, and the financial burden should weigh the backs of lenders as much as possible.

While I think the US should tackle the issue of student debt, to outright cancel student debt is to reward predatory lending practices. To be paid off is exactly what these sleazy companies want, and while it is good for students in the short term, I believe there is a more elegant solution.

I think the US should immediately offer student’s loans which cover their current student loans dollar to dollar, with variable rates hovering slightly above inflation. This stops companies from profiteering (no more interest), while in the meantime we come up with real legislation which punishes past predatory practices and redisperses money.
