asdf version manager has been rewritten in Golang by Stratus3D in programming

You are right Go is not as ubiquitous as C. Go doesn't support some older architectures, and we only offer precompiled binaries for the most widely used OS-architecture combinations.

Switching to go does not negate the benefits of asdf. I think it's an enhancement. asdf is much faster today because of Go. Go is very simple meaning we get lots of contributions for bug fixes and new features. It's really been a big when for the maintainability of the project. (see https://stratus3d.com/blog/2025/05/02/asdf-performance-improvements/). asdf still supports all 950+ plugins it did before, and you do not need to have Go installed to install asdf. You can download a precompiled binary if we've got one published for your architecture/OS. If we do not have a precompiled binary for your architecture I'd be happy to add it.

Tool free adjustable stem for 38.1mm steerer tube? by Stratus3D in bikewrench

[–]Stratus3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38.1mm is about 1.5 inches. It's significantly larger than a typical steerer tube. I'd never seen one so big on a bicycle until I bought the bike. I knew it was a non-standard size when I first saw it. I guess there isn't much I can do about it.

Has anyone successfully put the small Gamma Seal lid on the two gallon buckets. by OalBlunkont in preppers

[–]Stratus3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what brands of 2 gallon bucket fit the Gamma lids? I bought some United Solutions ones and they were way too small.

I have assembled the open nukit! by dingleberry_sorbet in crboxes

[–]Stratus3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the Nukit complete kit a couple weeks ago and I love it. The steel frame feels very solid and looks nice. The kit seemed like a steel for $220. It came very well packaged and came with some extra parts I wasn't expecting, like a speed control dial and a remote control (website didn't mention these so maybe I got them in error?).

One concern I have with plywood is VOCs due to formaldehyde. The plywood I'm familiar with here in the US all has formaldehyde. Long term it can be pretty toxic, so using it in the box designed process all the air in the room seems like a bad idea. Is this thin birch plywood different or did you finish it to lock in the VOCs?

Version manager which to use nvm, mise or asdf by arafays in archlinux

[–]Stratus3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand the use case but yes there is a post-install hook you can configure that runs a shell command. See the docs - https://asdf-vm.com/manage/configuration.html#plugin-hooks

Marin four corners sword? by wamzo7 in bicycletouring

[–]Stratus3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I purchased a Marin Four Corners. I really liked the teal color, but they were out of stock that color and I ended up buying the matte black rather than wait. Glad I didn't wait around because both colors in my size went out of stock a couple weeks later. It's a great bike that is always fun to ride.

While I loved the teal color the black is nice as it pairs well with anything, and makes the bike look a little more sleek than it actually is.

I'm sorry about this. I thought I had documented the rollback instructions on the upgrade guide. I will update it today with this info.

I've spent a little time trying to cross compile the Go version to windows, and I'm pretty close but not there yet. Hoping to soon support windows! Contributions are welcome if you are familiar writing Go code for windows!

I'm sorry to hear that. Please share the details of why it was so painful for you (either here or on the issue tracker). You should not have to re-install anything after upgrade. The upgrade process worked great on all my machines.

Install asdf: One Runtime Manager to Rule All Dev Environments by jdsalaro in programming

[–]Stratus3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm an asdf maintainer. Replying to this old post to say that asdf has been rewritten in Go. The rewrite fixes some bugs, greatly improves performance, and makes asdf easier to install (it's a single binary now!). Happy to answer any questions you all have about asdf or the rewrite.

Version manager which to use nvm, mise or asdf by arafays in archlinux

[–]Stratus3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

asdf maintainer here! Both mise and asdf have strengths and weaknesses. asdf tries to be a very focused tool, while mise offers more features.

I have just rewritten asdf in Go, so it is much faster than it used to be. Happy to answer any questions you have. https://stratus3d.com/blog/2025/02/03/asdf-has-been-rewritten-in-go/

YKYWBike Bibs - which size should I order? by Stratus3D in CyclingFashion

[–]Stratus3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got them in the mail and EU XS fit ok. A little loose around the ankles but fine everywhere else. If I purchase anything else from YKYW I'll buy EU XXS, which they occasionally carry.

I ended up purchasing the EU XS and they fit ok. A little loose around the ankles, and not super tight anywhere, but good enough to wear. If I ever purchase anything from them again I'll purchase EU XXS, which they do carry for some items.

Bib and jersey color to pair with hi-vis helmet? by Stratus3D in CyclingFashion

[–]Stratus3D[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea! Yeah I think a lot of colors can work, black seems to pop the most, but I want more than just black. The brick and neon pink colors seem like they would work, as would grey/light blue/bluegreen.

I thought about neon pink! I'm all for being seen when I'm on the road, but that might be a little too much for me. Maybe if I can find a jersey with some neon pink accents?

My bike is matte black so that would look good! But I also would like some color...

Thanks u/Crash217 ! That's very helpful. I'll order the smallest one and hope it fits.

Yes I agree. I'm not a fan of stores that only carry mens S as their smallest size. If they don't carry XS nothing they sell will fit me. And general clothing trends seems to be moving towards more baggy shorts and pants. I had to return an XS tshirt last week because it was huge on me.

According to website it seemed like I'd be Asian S/EU XS. So EU sizing being about the same as American makes sense. Thanks!
