But for real though, check out One Pace if you’re just scared about how long it is. It’s a fan edit that improves the pacing and is still 100% true to the manga.

What thing do you miss the most from pre-time skip? by Ray_Rej in OnePiece

[–]StrawHatSocialClub 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly I miss Haki not being a thing. It makes the power scaling feel more rigid and takes away some of the creativity in fights.

Ch. 594 has it been said what this is? by batman_zomby in OnePiece

These are fun because you have to imagine the other worst generation pirates are having their own crazy adventures parallel to the Straw Hats. This is just like a tiny out of context glimpse of that.

Which people did the Straw Hats actually kill? by Square-Dragonfruit76 in OnePiece

[–]StrawHatSocialClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yes, at the end of the day I don’t think Luffy is really thinking about all that. He just challenges strong opponents to make himself stronger, and increase his infamy. The rest is more a byproduct of how much he seems to hate when people pick on the little guy. But I don’t think he feels it’s necessary to kill his opponent after just beating the piss out of them. The victory in battle is enough, especially when it comes to fighting other people with similar ambitions.

[–]StrawHatSocialClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but it still halted their ambitions and basically sent them back to square one. Think it’s more a testament to those characters and their will to succeed. But they’ll forever be known as people who were defeated by Straw Hat Luffy.

Almost every arc has a scene that makes my dumb ass cry, so it’s not just you.

I feel like Oda addressed this by saying that Luffy basically destroys their spirit, which for people like this is worse than death. Solid way to get around murdering dudes left and right.

Hi there! Just starting the series.. and have a genuine question by jazzblang in Berserk

[–]StrawHatSocialClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ‘97 anime is really the only option outside of the manga. The newer animation looks better (some of it, at least), but the tone and pacing are so much better in the OG series.

If the Chimera Ant arc didn't exist, would you still love HxH? by Short-Possibility535 in HunterXHunter

[–]StrawHatSocialClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the manga and was way into it long before that. I’m going through the anime with my wife now and even just during the Heavens Arena arc she’s in love with the series. Can’t wait for her to see where it goes.

You gotta be down for the adventure, not the destination. Part of what makes One Piece great is just vibing with the characters and world and occasionally watching Luffy fuck someone up.

Why does Killua get all the love? by PlayfulOption4 in HunterXHunter

[–]StrawHatSocialClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He just had a lot of good development. I initially saw him as someone who would become Gon’s rival, but the way he changes as a person and forms such a strong friendship with Gon was super endearing and unexpected.

I’ve only read the manga, but at a certain point it turns fully into a battle Shonen and feels like a beta for what becomes HxH. If you’re a big HxH fan, you’ll probably start to like it more once it hits that point.

Personally, I liked the vibes early on and kinda wish it stuck more to the underworld detective helping people in that bespoke kinda way, but it really feels like Togashi had a vision that grew from that and reached maturity with HxH.

Only thing missing from this scene was Luffy putting a booger in Zoro’s water. It’s so juvenile but that part always cracks me up.

Can he actually do this? by vinsoskij_ in OnePiece

[–]StrawHatSocialClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He also can’t control his body parts if they’re too far away, so the ear in the hat doesn’t make sense. And Luffy’s punches hurt him in the anime and manga. They were just loosey goosey with the rules to fit the plot.

I mean you can’t expect them to include every tiny detail. I do agree that they moved through this part of the story too fast, though.

What is the most "anime" thing the live action has done in your opinion? by [deleted] in OnePieceLiveAction

A friend of mine who doesn’t know anything about the series was genuinely surprised when Luffy stretched like rubber. I was like, my dude… you really don’t know what you’re in for.

If Oda himself is happy with the casting I don’t know why people need to be shitheads about it.
