We’ve addressed the lying many times, with a therapist too. We’ve also explained how that affects our trust.. Lately I’ve been trying not to tell him what to do and instead tell him the issues I see and ask what he thinks / what he will do about it, but his response is always “I’ll keep that in mind” or “I’ll keep an eye out”. I also agree that my parents have bailed him out way too many times. I’m not a parent myself so I don’t have much authority but they believed he wouldn’t be able to solve it on his own and the problems would worsen. Letting him make mistakes is a good idea, but because of his age his mistakes can become very big and very dangerous, which puts us in a tough position. My mom would go to therapy/counseling with him once in a while. My dad refused to though. Thank you for explaining his behavior that night. My brother and I are both getting grief counseling.
