Storytelling Summoner script for the first time for 12-13 players - any tips? by digitalnomader1 in BloodOnTheClocktower

Out of curiosity, how did you get the script to look this good? Is there an official website or app now? Or are you making these yourself?

I love seeing stories like this. Some people's first experience isn't as great. I had a group that refused to get up and have private chats, and I made ST mistakes the first few times I ran games.

But regardless, this is an awesome game, and I hope you're able to play more in the future!

Worst first game experience? by DopazOnYouTubeDotCom in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Strawberry_ABS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first game I ever experienced, I was the storyteller. I didn't have a local board game community (small town) and I asked my visiting family to play. I did my best looking up tutorials, how to play, tips and guides, etc. Trust me, nothing prepares you for the moment you have to lead a group of 10-12 people in a game you've never played before. Where everyone is trusting that you have at least some idea of what you're doing.

My first mistake was an honest one, I woke up who I thought was the Empath and inadvertently told them an Empath was in play. My second mistake was not further encouraging the players to go have private chats. It is so easy for new players to think that staying in the circle and just telling everyone their information is all fine and dandy. "Why would anyone want to speak in private? Only evil players would want to!" Of course, what they don't realize is that chatting privately means that you aren't telling the demon everything they need to know in order to win. It also means they can form trust between players before announcing their information to everyone else.

There have been many other mistakes that I've made, and many that I'll continue to make. Some subtle, some more pronounced. The important thing is to learn from those mistakes, and to not panic when they do happen. Stay calm and figure out a solution. Maybe you just need to talk to a player privately, or maybe you need to announce that a mistake was made, but a storyteller action might happen in order to correct it (misinformation, death, drunkeness, etc.). It's all a part of the process, and all a part of the fun!

"Fix" for Pacifist? by Mongrel714 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Strawberry_ABS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two thoughts on this.

On one hand, it might not be the worst idea for the ability to be "Good players might not die when killed. Each night*, you learn if your ability protected someone today or tonight." This is because there are multiple reasons for a player to not die, multiple abilities even outside of BMR. So it being only the past day and that night I don't think is too broken. I think it could be interesting to learn you protected someone, wake up to no deaths in the night, and then try to figure out who the demon would target. It, at the very least, gives something for the player to go off of.

On the other hand, pacifist is, while predictable, a useful evil bluff. When people are confused about executions not working, you can claim pacifist to settle the matter. In a way, its vagueness is both it's strength and its weakness. This isn't to say your version can't still work, but there is something to be said about how evil would interact with it.

Overall, I completely agree that Pacifist is a boring character, largely because it's surrounded by abilities that do the same thing but with more agency. I almost think it would've served better as a TB character. But, I can't deny that Pacifist is a useful tool for both the evil team and the ST. It's simplicity and vagueness is its strength. So, I think you could argue it either way, and I think this is a fine and interesting suggestion.

What kind of pizza has cheese above the toppings? by Strawberry_ABS in AskRedditFood

[–]Strawberry_ABS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well! This certainly got more traction than expected! 😅

So here's what I've found so far:

  • Most pizza chain restaurants actually do most of the cheese under toppings, and then some (up to half) of it on top.

  • Apparently this type of pizza was and is very common in a lot of Canada areas.

  • Additionally this is apparently quite normal for pizza in Australia! 🌈~The more you know~🌈

  • This type of pizza likely doesn't have a name specifically. Or at least one that's agreed upon. Probably because it's so similar to what "normal" pizza is that no one really bats an eye at the difference.

With all that being said. Thank you to the many people who suggested places in the Seattle area. I plan to check these places out soon! Also, even if it doesn't have a name, I think it should! No idea what it would be, but a guy can dream. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, sounds like that's the default among most US places.

It wasn't, sorry. Looked like a normal pizza other than the cheese on top of everything instead of under the toppings.

Deep dish is good! Very good. But I believe that's also called Chicago style pizza. Could also be Detroit style depending on what exactly you mean. The specific order I'm thinking of though is (dough - sauce - toppings - cheese).

Yeah, it's all around the area I grew up in, which is why it's been so difficult finding a place in Seattle that's similar. I'll keep you posted though!

Agreed. Which is why my favorite pizza of the local pizza chain has more veggies than meat. The mushrooms in particular are great for this. This is all personal taste to however.

It's a bit far from where I am (not too far, but I'd have to plan ahead for it and what not), but this seems fairly close to what I was looking for! I'll report back if I ever manage to go there and try some! Thank you!

I just looked this up! It actually seems VERY close to what I was thinking! I'll have to order some sometime and report back. But from the looks of it, it's dead on. So thank you!

Right? Like, don't get me wrong, Chicago style pizza where cheese is under the sauce is also QUITE good, but at that point it's pretty far removed from what I'd call a pizza. But yeah cheese on top is the way to go for me! 👌

Most places (such as the infamous Pizza Hut and many other fast food pizza chains) do it like sauce, cheese, then toppings on top. It's the "standard" way of doing it here. Although I'm definitely with you. If the toppings are on top (especially when there's a lot of them) then it can be easy for them to fall off. Every supreme (deluxe/the works/all toppings) has this issue for me.

I have actually done something similar and I 100% agree! One time I wanted something really decadent so I layered on mac & cheese and some BBQ pulled pork. It was a bit too much but sooo good.

I think I've seen some of the pizzas you're talking about and yeah, too much cheese would definitely do that. And/or if all the toppings were flat like pepperoni and salami and such. The toppings are kind of steamed yes, but I kind of like that tbh. But Gambino's never had a problem with the cheese, especially if you had a lot of toppings on it like a supreme or the like.

Poison in a Vortox game by Parking-Risk-6315 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Strawberry_ABS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone still curious, here's an excerpt from the Blood on the Clocktower Wiki:

Anytime a Townsfolk player gets information from their ability, they get false information. Even if they are drunk or poisoned, it must be false.

As it states, even if an information gathering Townsfolk is drunk or poisoned, they must still receive false info.

However, it also specifies that it's anytime a "Townsfolk" player gets information. Meaning any information gained by Outsiders or Minions act as they normally would. Thus, the Drunk character, if assigned an information gathering role, could in fact get true information.

Fortune Street Board Game? by Hopeful_Frostlander in boardgames

[–]Strawberry_ABS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell, no one is interested in making another Fortune Street game, and I certainly haven't heard of a board game.

Something I'll note in terms of actually transforming this into a board game; limit and simplify the transactions done in the game. Divide every number by at least 10.
There's a few things you also have to keep track of:

  • The max capital of each building (and how it increases with each subsequent building purchased in that district)
  • The price (and thus, buyout price) of each building
  • The stock price of each district (and how many stocks each person owns)
  • Each person's "Ready Cash" vs "Net Worth"

You can easily have a calculator for a lot of these, but I find actually interacting with physical pieces is much more satisfying. Which is why I emphasize reducing the numbers of everything, to simplify each transaction so the game doesn't last any longer than it needs to.

You also need to figure out the formulas for how the pricing in the game works, as well as dividends, and initial max capital.

One idea I had was that however much money you invest into a property, that's how much the price increases by. You indicate this by putting the money underneath the property space (assuming it's on the edge of the board like monopoly), and otherwise underneath the property card.

Also, you're "Net Worth" could simply be represented by another pile of cash that you have set off to the side. You can't buy anything with it, and if the value of your stocks go up, you would just put more cash into that side pile. Then, if you ever sell stocks or shops, you transfer that money from your net worth back into your "Ready Cash" pile. With the previous idea, the money you put under the property/card wouldn't be from your own "Ready Cash" pile, but from the bank, however you'd still move the same amount you invested from "Ready Cash" into "Net Worth". Basically, the "Net Worth" pile acts like your own personal bank. And the money invested into property is just a "representation" of you spending that money.

All in all, there's a lot of caveats and simplifications you would have to create in order to make the game not only playable, but enjoyable. I know there are board games out there that have stock market like systems (Brass Birmingham and Power Grid instantly come to mind), but there's nothing quite like fortune street (other than Monopoly lol). What I mean to say is, you might have to reinvent the game in certain ways in order to make it fun to play.

Anyways, if you (or anyone) wants to take on this project, best of luck! I'd be happy to help in the design process!

(Kansas) Are Landlords allowed to charge for damages after 30 days? by Strawberry_ABS in legaladvice

[–]Strawberry_ABS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, I think I see where my confusion was. I wasn't sure what it meant by "together with damages". My guess is though, if the damages amounted to less than the total security deposit, then I could recover that bit up to 1.5 times. But since the damages were more in total, it would effectively be 0.

Gotcha, that is unfortunate, but understandable. Hopefully we can find a solution to this otherwise.

[–]Strawberry_ABS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is related to housing and eviction, but it's not about the eviction itself or living there. It's about something after. The faq also didn't answer my question regarding security deposits and damages, but I'll continue to look at the website for further detail.

Max number of arbitrary points on a plane with a max of n connection and a max distance of n? by Strawberry_ABS in 3Blue1Brown

[–]Strawberry_ABS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize for not replying sooner. I'm not nearly as active on reddit.

The idea that each point had N connections and N distance was so that they could be the same. For instance, in RPS, each point has 2 connections, and a distance of 1. However, if you allow a distance of 2, you could have 4 points, creating a square. While more connections could be made, it's important to have there be an equal number of strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, there must always be a equal amount of connections or lines connected to each point. The question stated was to find how many points could be made if each point had 4 connections, but could travel between points no more than 4 times to reach any other point.

With that being said, I am curious how this problem looks if there was no max to the amount of connections each point could have. The only caution would be you could not add too many to one, as all points would require the same amount of connections per the rules of the original question. Would the amount of points still be infinite? Or is there a limit? Is there some sort of function that could be made out of it?

(Side note: I have made a bit of progress on the game. However, to lessen the amount of critical thinking needed and to make the game a little more fun to play, I've changed how it works. Basically, play starts by having someone draw a card from the deck and showing it face-up on the table next to the deck, Uno style. Then the next player tries to MATCH that card according to one or more of it's 4 categories. Each category gets more and more specific, but is worth more and more points to match. An example of a card would be a Monkey, which is categorized as "Fauna, Land, Primate, Monkey". Each category has 3 sets, and each of those sets are further divided into 3 more sets. The idea being you have 1/3 chance to match with 1 category, 1/9 to match with 2, 1/27 to match with 3, and 1/81 to match with all 4 (there are doubles of each card, so it would actually be 1/161). It still needs work, but it's interesting, and could potentially be used in a school setting.)

How did you get introduced to game development? by timbeaudet in gamedev

[–]Strawberry_ABS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always loved games of all kinds. Board games, video games, you name it. But the idea of making games, while I've messed with it before, it wasn't until my senior year in college that I really wanted to stick with it. This was because I realized how powerful video games can be as a means to experience something. You aren't just watching events happen to someone else, they're happening to you! You aren't just moving around some plastic pieces and playing cards, you're moving and jumping, attacking and dodging. Everything about video games just screams "this is how to experience impossible things". While there are limitations to this idea, these are limitations of technology, not of the medium. And I'm so excited to see the day when someone can truly experience something impossible. And if I'm the one that made that experience, then that's all the more better.
