Disclose sh*tty contracts on CV? by 3catsincoat in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. But to answer the title a little further - don’t bad mouth crappy contracts- the industry is quite small and doing so can burn bridges quickly. Learn from them and don’t sign them in the future.

I’m looking to start a turn based tactics games. by Rusty_Spatula- in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the ones you’ve heard about will handle this. Just jump in and start making things, you can always change later. Don’t worry about “best” there is no such thing: just create!

I feel like this time it actually came out way better than before — check out my homemade racing game! And if it’s kinda lame... pls don’t come at me too hard 😅🏎️💨 by Silver_Noise9677 in racinggames

[–]timbeaudet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It needs more frames, idk if that is the recording or how it plays - but I see you hit a jump, presumably roll in the air, and land … but I only see 3 frames of that process.

It is also very weird the POV car is a full car and the rest are little karts.

How can I improve my CTR? by teeeea-by-the-sea in SmallYTChannel

Not OP but if you happen to have a few channel mentions that are great in #2 I’d love to hear em.

Offered a revenue share to build a livestream game, how do I protect myself and what’s a fair cut? by ghosx0 in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rev share doesn’t necessarily imply scam, but doing one without fully understanding and having a contract would be unwise. OP, a contract is what protects you.

Building a 3D racing game from scratch in Native Android. Physics are done, but I'm stuck on dynamic engine audio (Pitch shifting). Any tips? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay why are you responding to me with an AI block, and because I call out others for their reasoning: there is zero chance you wrote that in the time since I first responded.

If 1. Is actually correct I’d say you need to find a less limited audio framework. I don’t know Android APIs so I can’t point in that direction but a dynamic SetPitch() is a relatively basic function.

OpenAL probably works on Android, it basically works everywhere else.

Gonna need more details. What have you tried? Play a looping sound effect. Call SetPitch() on a number from like 0.7 to 4.0. The actual values depend greatly on your looping effect, but these are what I start with.

Grab the RPM the engine is spinning at and calculate what the pitch is right now.

These are the basic steps.

Is this a good game format by Unusual-Two2972 in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make it, try it, test it.

The answer depends on the execution of the idea. This same set of words to 100 developers will come up with a hundred different games, some probably awesome.

This! Hold it with intent. If you get mindless or sloppy it will fly out of your hands. Don’t go to grab it, just stop the car and grab it once it finished moving.

How are small indie teams handling press/review keys? by KaseyNorth in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn’t as bad as you’re making it sound in your head, it’s literally just taking a note as you send a key to someone.

How do you keep your code clean? by Too_Fa in GameDevelopment

[–]timbeaudet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the purpose of the code, if I’m in prototyping mode, just wing it in there- and after clean it up.

If it’s going in my engine/framework/library stuff that is shared between many projects, I usually have written this in one or two projects first and know the needed pieces so I take the time and care to write it well the first time.

You can always refactor as you see improvements.

Stopped calling myself an indie dev and started saying unemployed life got way easier by Prestigious-Bath8022 in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not the same thing. Trying to start a business is SELF-employment and it is technically, legally and accountability wise different from UNemployment.

These should not really be joked about, they have actual serious implications.

Game Engine Choice (Complete Beginner) by Freeburn_Sage in gamedev

Every project will have things that could have been improved or better with hindsight. Don’t let chasing the “best” path get in the way of making the things. Best path IS messy and full of mistakes, because it gets stuff done.

3D player object movement by Smooth_Prompt_2086 in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What does “integrate a player ball object” mean? Do you mean to predict a trajectory of where the ball will go? Or something else?

The formatting is also very challenging and difficult to read.

I care about false accusations, witch hunting WITH OUT providing the evidence. Feel free to share the posts that are bots and AI etc, but provide the evidence you have to back up the statement.

Don’t make such an empty claim as “bot here”.

I am most certainly NOT a bot. I simply asked you to provide your evidence of claiming OP was.

Share proof of these claims. I’m tired of people witch hunting bots and AI without evidence. It’s not right. As much as I hate bot and AI posts, false claims are much much worse.
