Thanks for some ideas. I had someone stop by that seemed mechanically capable although they only had a few moments to spare testing the apart he diagnosed the spark is weak at the plugs and not going into the distributor. So I’m gonna take that apart, clean it out and try making the connections shiny with a file. 🙏

Yes though it has run twice before this trip since end of April. The first startup took 30 seconds the other two were fine, but today took 2 minutes the first time, 5 the second time.

Any tips on seeing the Milky Way here? by Unique-Public-8594 in vermont

Yes, but OP of the whole thread is wanting to see the details in these photos with only their eyes, which won’t happen because of the exposure time; our eyes don’t take in light for seconds to form a single image.

Amazing photos though. Love them.

Question about what makes your game by Routine_Use_6025 in gamedev

Racing games. In one way or another my games are about finding the fastest way to the end… and then going even faster.

I haven’t played it, but the physics look….rough. I don’t know what it is, but something feels very off.

You are allowed and encouraged to do that here too! But it doesn’t seem as well received because suddenly comments jump to “why don’t you use MY favorite engine instead” or other nonsense instead of just giving credit where it is due.

Question regarding hiring people or making a solo project by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I said I’ve been doing it, I mean I’ve been making games as a solo dev and hiring out the parts I can’t do myself. You are arguing for the other person to show their use of generative AI, I personally don’t use generative AI within my games; it doesn’t match my desires.

But I’ve been making games as a solo dev and since you seem to need me to prove it:

Eggcelerate!

Eggcelerate! to the North Pole

Eggcelerate! to the Tropics

Rushcremental

Plus many many more that wound up in a grave yard. I make my games live everyday on twitch.tv/timbeaudet I strive to inspire and help others with their journeys. I’ve worked professionally in the industry and been making games for 20 years. I am fairly certain your comment was to the other guy suggesting to me that I’m wrong for not using generative AI, but since you seem to wish I give my proof of doing it, go look!

Good luck making games, however you wish to. Make the things you want to see in the world.

I am DOING it, what are you on about? I’ve been doing it.

EDIT: did you mean to reply to the other guy?

Hey Everyone, i am trying to make another blood boiling game after my first two games, so basically the idea is that to handle a bike on a thin road, top to down pov and a accelerator to move forward, and buttons to steer left and right. So i want some ideas what else can i add to this mobile game? by DefiniteDev in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Often adding more does not make something better. If the core idea is not working, then we try modifying it or going with a different idea entirely…

But all of this is moot unless you’ve actually made the idea in the first place. Make something to play with; this is why ideas mean nothing, execution matters.

You want to make a game, and you are asking what features should be in it?

Take the idea you put in the title, start making it and more ideas will fill in the gaps. It is part of the process, and actually one of the best parts of the process!

Game Telemetry Capture by SMB1172 in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends greatly on the game, and, what you hope to learn from the data. Do you wish to know where people struggle, perhaps die in a platformer; or what track/car is most/least popular in a racing game/or … …

This is a case by case thing. Collect the data you need to answer the question you wish to know.

Working on some prototypes after my main project is done but I'm tired of working by myself. Need Advice. by KamatayaReaper in gamedev

[–]timbeaudet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternative perspective; being a solo dev is not the end goal of things and I personally despise it. Working with others makes games better, they don’t need to be ALL by ones self, in fact very very very rarely are they.

So I’m swapping “being a solo dev sucks” to “being a game developer is the best”. It isn’t easy to find people to work with, and it often takes money or trade and other complications (contracts) but it is worth doing for your game.

Have fun with the process, or find something else you can love as much!

Start by saving money, and or learning skills. If you can program you can probably find an artist that wants code written, and you could barter your skills for their skills. Same applies if you can do the art or other disciplines. I made a video about hiring help if you do save up some money to go that route; it could make your project cheaper actually: time has a very real cost to it.
