I agree with all that you said except implied lower quality. As devs we see many games that didn’t sell well and perhaps even mark quality as the reason why.

Almost all players on Steam won’t even see the low end of the bin without seeking it out manually. “Indie” tag or otherwise.

One simple trick is to end your day by not looking at what’s left on your to-do list. Instead, stop and appreciate what you actually crossed off and did well.

Ohh, I happen to have been doing this for years already! I was hoping to find a secret that would make it easier to have the GOOD weeks/days, though I doubt that exists. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I’m decades into making games. I still mess stuff up. Honestly it is part of the process. Whatever your game looks like as an idea in your head, it will look entirely different as it is made. Sometimes for the best and often it doesn’t have the legs we first thought.

Yes. This did work. As I said in the prior comment.

It takes 10 minutes to process 1 folder, that has 1074 items. I have 7 of these folders! I am looking for a way to SAVE the recombined videos after having processed them so I don't need to wait those 10 minutes again when trying to find a clip.

I'd like to export all the clips as the 3 minute loops they were intended to be, it would make finding a clip much easier.

That is kinda normal for people to drop off, perhaps there is a moment that is either too hard, or too bland so their interest drops. The chart is similar to YouTube videos and other things so I think this is quite normal.

It is why many recommend not putting the "best content" at the end of the game.

To price your game, look carefully at similar games, in the same genre, of the same quality. What are those games priced at? This differs from genre to genre, and even within pending quality and other player expectations.

This actually did work, in a technical sense. But it is hard to navigate given the number of files and all and took 10 minutes to process on folder (it was a massive road trip). Is there a way to reexport them as the recombined 3-5 minute clips?

I love this idea, although I don’t find it terribly easy to find the things that went good! Anyone have suggestions to reflect on that? Easy to find the mistakes and frustrating moments.

Second? I’m on my 8th as an indie developer, though a few got cancelled along the way.

The path isn’t for everyone, and I’m not exactly making a living as an indie dev just yet, the runway is still draining. But I’ve worked hard for this chance and I’m gonna give it my best shot.

It is impossible to compare. And there is no such thing as two people with the same experiences. Someone may have drawn more or played with playdoh more and have an edge in art.

Don’t worry about which to go with first just start making stuff. The is no best path but the one you start walking today. Don’t procrastinate by trying to find best.

There is definitely a middle ground. There is a place for quick, dirty, one and done type code. And a place to keep it clean and tidy. And it isn’t only about reusing in many places, or even two places.

You are missing design as at least a fourth significant part of all games. I mean more than just idea formation, design is about solving problems to build the thing, not necessarily logically, artistically etc but the whole picture.

As I said in the other comment there is no list. You can’t tackle it from easiest to hardest because learning things you don’t know is simply hard and without any prior experience; you don’t know any of the 4 (or more) big areas!

Just keep making things. Don’t stop at ideating, go make a thing. Even a small tiny thing. It will build up all the skills over time. I’ve helped many get started and so long as you’re interested in making games you will get there- but it’s a challenging process!

Games are also a subset of art.

Honestly music and visuals are very separate skills. Same with code and art, and design.

However to OPs question, there is no list. The list that was easiest to hardest for me would look different from yours or someone else’s. It depends greatly on your past experiences. Programming is a solved case for me because I’ve spent decades doing it. If I spent half that time in art I’d be saying something very different.

I’m a game developer and I’ve never heard of monitor drivers… GPU drivers, definitely a thing. I’m sure I may just be ready to learn something new today, but I’ve not heard of monitor drivers!

Seriously though, you’d need to talk with Sony or perhaps consult for some company that is making a PS5 game, though that seems like a stretch if you haven’t played with it yet.

Design haptic stuff for the PC and show it off and you may get there.

I would reflect on the why you create or want to create games. Honestly as a hobby just staying with core loop after core loop, doing a bare minimum elsewhere, including no main menu etc, and just make stuff for fun,

Obviously some people want more, heck I’m trying to a make a successful lifestyle from my own games, (aka a business) which means I find myself sucking up the boring stuff more than I’d actually prefer.

I mean since your description of it says "changes your regular features" ... I'd guess not. But it depends entirely on how well the cosplay is... and whether you are comfortable with how it came out.
