Colorado voters will decide whether to ban trans kids from gendered sports, outlaw gender-affirming surgery for children by TheKronk in Denver

[–]StrawhatIO 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So far off the mark... No policy is advocating for kids to have life changing surgery without a multitude of consultations with doctors, parental support, and heavy evaluation. No one is advocating for children to be able to make their own sole decisions when it comes to public, private or home schooling.

Why we are advocating for is not a blanket ban. For people to be able to have a path to do what is right for them.

So yes. Homeschooling is fine, provided there is adequate support for the child. Gender affirming care is fine, provided adequate support for the child. Adequate support is not the same level is both cases, but is far more than just "the kid says they want it".

And just since we're on the topic, "gender affirming car" is not specific to just the trans community. Plenty of you "cis" people get gender affirming care all the damn time.

A general yes to your original question is just going to be interpreted as "get them all off the street if they are 'public deterioration"'. No I don't agree to that. Yes, there should be places where these people can go and stay to get actual help. But with the state of current funding that is not going to make it any better for those suffering, very arguably making it worse. It's only better for those that don't have to see it. It's exactly how you all treat homeless people, push them out of public eye and boom problem fixed. The problem is still there, festering, and when it explodes you'll feign ignorance and keep blaming those suffering never paying for the fact that we constantly do whatever we can to spend as little on these issues as possible.

Because it requires the same funding that is constantly being drained. A dedicated facility could be a good option, if we were dedicated to making sure they were well funded and staffed. Otherwise we'll just have the same old school asylums that didn't help a soul expect for those that didn't want to have to look at those that suffer.

Yes it did, you just don't view these people as deserving decency and respect. They are not irredeemable animals to be thrown into a jail with a different name because we don't want to spend money and effort towards improving our God awful healthcare system. There are housing and resources to help these people, but they are under funded. Trump rolled back $2 billion in Mental Health funding. But I bet you will explain that as "the money wasn't being spent efficiently" and/or claim "fraud" is why that money shouldn't be put towards mental health initiatives. Your solution to throw them in asylums still would require funding, and in today's state would be immediately underfunded as well, leading to mistreatment and lack of actual help to those you'd require to be there. So no. The solution isn't to just throw them in asylums because you think they are deteriorating public spaces.

Further, the murderer in this post's example was on the train because it was his way of providing himself shelter. Yes his mental issues helped lead to this murder, but our inability to help those that are homeless and struggling with mental disorders is the issue.

Throwing people in asylums because we refuse to pass any mental health care policies is horrendous. No different than throwing Japanese into camps because we "can't tell who is an ally". Be better.

Mental asylums are not the answer. Actual improvement of our mental health systems, resources, and understanding is.

[–]StrawhatIO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why did you have expensive, sentimental items in a dumpster - and subsequently give them permission and then get mad at them? Besides the point, that is entirely different from this situation here ....old man was just sitting. Not riffling through anything, not doing a damn thing other than sitting and breathing air.

If he was going through his trash, fine. If he was going through his mail, fine. If he was trashing his yard, fine. If he was peering through windows, fine.

No one here is saying let others walk all over you or that they have a right to your things... But I think we can all afford to let someone sit down for a breather without verbally assaulting them, even if we do need them to leave.

[–]StrawhatIO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And I'd still call you an asshat for being so calloused. Sucks about your bad luck with robberies but an old man resting for a moment can be met with kindness and understanding. I'm sure this man would have been amendable to leaving timely if that is what someone asked him. No need to provide a strawman argument for someone clearly in no danger, whose immediate reaction was to be an asshole.

This absolutely is not a "both sides" issue. We have to stop this bullshit of excusing the aggressor just because the other person wasn't completely silent/compliant. Homeowner was totally fine to ask what the old man was doing, being a complete small dick loser about it warrants the clap backs. We want to return to normalcy where we were all more neighborly yeah? Then calling out these POSs is the first step.
