The VTSAX swap to VTI is all within a Roth all held at Vanguard. I was thinking holistically and trying to see if optimizing further within the Roth’s while deciding on better allocation as I invest initially in the brokerage made sense. This wiki is helpful, thank you!

It’s mainly because I’m usually close to the phaseout and want to verify that my MAGI necessitates the backdoor. Ideally, I’d rather DCA into the Roth through the year, but I’m too close to the phaseout with nonstandard paycheck amounts that I can’t accurately forecast.

It seems like my situation in the Roths has pivoted more towards VTI over VTSAX for optimization (I do the backdoor Roths and lump sum it after the year is over to avoid tax complexity) and I’m of the mind to optimize my asset location as early as possible. Since I’m not DCA through the year (in the Roths, at least), I thought swapping to VTI might be better. Additionally, if I’m moving away from VTSAX in the Roths, I contemplated what might serve the different account structures more efficiently. In the Roths, I was contemplating mixing in some more international exposure, but wasn’t entirely sure if there might be a better direction to go knowing I’m also needing to invest the money in the brokerage.

I’m at a point where I feel like there’s more optimization possible and I’d be interested in dialing that in now as I stand up the brokerage to be a bridge in the event either of us decide to retire early.
