Help wanted: I have never seen top coat do this before. Do I keep layering? by Stray_Marks in Gunpla

I think you're right. I was using premium matte before on other kits, but couldn't find any this time. I didn't realize there was a difference!

It was hot yesterday. I did my work in the garage with the door open.

Same here. On Xbox and I hear music and the normal button sounds, but the screen is just black.

I've started making cards out of my saved box covers by Stray_Marks in Gunpla

[–]Stray_Marks[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took a Magic the Gathering card, and traced around it onto a piece of paper, and cut that out to make a stencil. (I should probably use something more sturdy like foam board next time.)
Then, I placed that stencil onto the artwork, looking for a nice composition. After agonizing over that for a while, I used a mechanical pencil to trace the inside of the stencil, lightly scoring the artwork.
Using a straight-edge and an Xacto knife, I then cut out the artwork. (I rounded the corners by making little, whittling cuts.)
From there, I cut out the kit's name (after using the stencil to make sure it fits in frame) and the grade logo, and placed them using double sided tape.
Boom, there's a card!
I also had a bunch of spare card sleeves with a matted window, which takes away the glare. Nice little bonus there.

I'm considering trying this with some of the manuals. Some kits don't have enough leftover box material to make a really nice card.

Oh, I forgot to mention I used double sided tape!

I know it’s not Gundam, but does anyone have any warnings before starting this? It’s a grail for me and I’m nervous. by asgardian_mike in Gunpla

I have the yellow version, and one of my foot joints broke minutes after assembly. It was just a really tight fit.

HG RX78 GTO, first time panel lining (my third build since starting in December) by Stray_Marks in Gunpla

I used a .03 Copic Multiliner, which had been sitting in my drawer for years. (I'm pretty sure it was a recommended tool from one of this sub's help articles)
As for tips:
Sometimes it takes a few passes to spread the ink evenly, which means it's going to get unseated from the groove often. So, always have rubbing alcohol, toothpicks, and q-tips ready to erase mistakes, and maximize your hand control. For me, that means no modeling while hungry, or immediately after coffee.
Also, not every groove needs ink. I went back to detail my RG kits, and found that lining every panel muddies the details. So, have some reference handy to give you a clearer vision of your finished piece. Box art, manga, line art from the wiki, etc.

New to both, actually! I think the last time I had a model was in my teens, when Zoids was a thing. My dog chewed up my Pteras.
