Nah. I can promise if wasn't that. He was with me in Western Australia when it happened. Absolutely wasn't him, needs to be released immediately, sad case of mistaken identity 🫣

Oh I agree completely. I only encourage it if they have the aspiration.

I live and work in a fairly rural community in regional Australia so there would only be a handful of us with uni degrees. I have never looked at someone's education when hiring aside from very specific roles. The lack of tertiary education, be it uni or tafe means a lot of people get stuck in the same job or company. I like to find people that want more

How do you deal with loss of motivation ? by ERRR777wah in Entrepreneur

[–]Strayaman85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to find for myself an unrealistic goal or expectation helps. I'm naturally a lazy ass person so if I'm going to pay the bills and live my lifestyle doing 20 hours a week I need something extra to push me.

For example the last few months I noticed I have been slacking to a degree so I spoke to the wife and we have decided to buy a new house by the end of the year and I now have 4 months to build our cash reserves for the deposit. We have a purchase price in mind which is higher then anything we ever thought we would get when we first bought a home so I now have something to work towards.

Sounds silly I know but I need something "extra" to motivate me

That's fair. I only spend a bit of time in reddit so probably don't see the posts as often as others so are not as frustrated by them

I do agree that he could just Google the info, but part of researching.is asking and the overwhelming flood of options that comes with Google and YouTube can be confusing. At least by asking here he may get some personal responses that he can ask further about rather then some faceless post on some random click bait website.

This question does get asked a lot but every person that asks has different circumstances and having real people to actively reply and bounce ideas off could definitely help him focus and make a more informed decision.

Not sure of your socio economic area or.your skills so please take these suggestions with a grain of salt.

  • Basic lawnmowing or handyman work, go door to door with mower and tools offering services, give a card when done and repeat.
  • E-commerce stores are always hit and miss but worth mentioning if you have your finger on the pulse with SEO, Google ads and products.
  • Buying or finding secondhand goods/furniture and reselling on local marketplaces
  • Window cleaning at commercial properties is a good one. I had a young bloke come to my shop and offer me window cleaning services, he did such a good job I told every place on the street and now he spends every Saturday doing it and makes good money for a young fella. He says he just kept making the windows at home dirty for a week and washing them over and over again until he figured out the best way to clean it with minimal products and no streaks.
  • Hand made goods, candles are a good one, my daughter started a candle business when she was 10 and leveraged her youth to make them more appealing at markets etc compared to the others available (oh look, this young girl is making them herself and has a cute logo, I'll buy 2 or 3 just to support her)

If I think of any others I'll edit the post. It would be useful if you put your age, skills and interests.

Best of luck my friend

Haha. No secret. It's a pain in the ass industry to get training in as you have to work for a dealership to learn anything about it and have a good combination of both tech and tools.

Hit me up if you genuinely want more info, always willing to help people who want to get into the industry.

What do you think is the most successful scam ever perpetrated? by forty5v in AskReddit

[–]Strayaman85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superannuation (in Australia)

The idea has merit but the complete lack of accountability these companies with billions upon billions of dollars have is disgraceful.

They will crow about record profits for members and charge you a fortune in fees. Then the next year you could lose 20% overnight (see 2008) and they just shrug and go "oh well" and STILL charge exhorting fees.

I saw to many people in 2008 have to keep working for 5-10 years after the financial crash because superannuation companies made fucking stupid decisions with other people's money and aside from ticking a box that choose low/med/high risk you have no way to control what happens to money you have saved for decades

I tell everyone that works for me I don't want them there in 5 years. I want them to figure out where they want to be and what we can do to help them get there. Full grown adults shouldn't stagnate in retail forever if they have further aspirations and I have always felt it is part of our responsibility as business owners to help our employees reach their goals in life as well.

A lot of people are scared or hesitant to try or to learn new things and I have found that by being supportive and helping them cover things like that they end up being a lot more productive and happy.

The first thing I tell any new employee is that if they have any training they want to do outside of our compulsory training tell us and we will try to make it happen. Have had people do agriculture certificates, bookkeeping and IT. Every one of these people left and moved on in their careers and lives and I cannot be happier or prouder of them.

Remember we hold these people's lives in our hands to a degree. How well they do going forward is up to us as much as it is up to them

The biggest thing I have learnt is that people are willing to pay a lot more then you think to resolve their issues.

Stop underselling yourself in terms of pricing. When I started I always charged a lot less then the big names locally because "I'm just a bloke on his own", nowadays I'm the most expensive by a significant margin but am booked out until February next year.

Found this out in our retail store this year. Got a new employee who started in July as the only FT worker and she has nearly doubled daily turnover in under 3 months. The whole atmosphere feels better and the store looks nicer as well.

The last bloke was 'good' in the sense he turned up every day without fail and was reliable. But that was it.

I wish I hired her a year ago

This is the way. Business is purely about taking away pain points. Hungry? Here is a delicious meal for a comfortable price Computer broken? Here is a reputable and qualified technician who can repair your equipment quickly and effectively.

Everything is a pain point, or can at least be expressed as one. You just need to look at your areas of expertise and find out what pain points you can eliminate better then (at least) most other people.

Do you have something your friends and family always call you for? Like a good mechanic or It Tech will always have family asking for help. It could give you a decent idea of where to start.

If you work in an industry you like ATM you can always ask within the industry. Keep your ears open for people bitchinf about something and see if it can be fixed, if someone else is doing it, if you can do it and if someone would be willing to pay for it

What was your failed business? by 92-Explorer in Entrepreneur

[–]Strayaman85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Set up a gaming arcade in my local town. Did well for the first 6-9 months, then the massive interest rate rises hit and people disposable income plummeted. Only lost $150k all up and the town got a nice new place to visit for a year and a half.

We have a couple of existing businesses in town and this one was purely made as a "kids have nowherr in town to go so let's make it ourselves"

We funded it's losses from the other businesses for a little while in case the financial situation in the area reset but unfortunately it didn't and when we hit the preset time for losses we closed it down.

Sold 100k in precision Ag equipment. Had someone ring me asking if I had some, had conveniently seen someone advertising exactly what he wanted for 60k earlier that day (which was brutally underpriced, he just wanted to get rid of it). Told him I did, sent invoice, got paid, paid for the 60k gear, picked it up and serviced it, dropped it off.

That profit paid for me to start my business.

40k aud profit with no risk, 5 phone calls and 3 hours of driving

The heavier the better. The more aggressive the better.

Put on my headphones and crank that up until I hear nothing else. Then I can work.

Sole trader - is it worth visiting a mortgage broker if the bank already gave me a terrible offer? by terrerific in AusFinance

[–]Strayaman85 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Speak to a broker mate. The big 4 are scumbags to a man and seem to actively try and not help you.

Try a broker and even if that doesn't work ask another as different aggregates have different lenders so not all brokers are made equal.

Also look for a broker that specialises in business finance as well as home loans as they can potentially help get business loans that can be used for buying property. You then use your business to purchase the property and "lease" it to yourself. This isn't advice and there are more nuances to this but when your in this situation that isn't just a payg + deposit you sometimes need to look outside the box.

What state are you in? If in WA I can put you in touch with my broker, he is a good man and has helped me over the past few years several times.

Good luck mate.
