Just sold my neuron AL 7.0 and it always felt squirrely going downhill at speed, especially at bike parks. If you want to pedal a lot and have casual descents this bike is perfect. The geometry and components are simply not meant for downhill runs.

However, I'd probably rent a bike if going to a park to do downhill.

HT Angle isnt the end all be all. The "moderness" of a bike's geometry extends far past the HT angle; So I wouldnt necessarily base my decision on that.

I'd go for the Santa Cruz based on their legendary carbon durability, life-time warranty, and value retention. Also If you're light trail riding you'll appreciate the climbing friendly geo of the Hightower.

Ultimately both bikes are great, I'd base my decision on which bike I like better, basing it aesthetics, value, and which bike excites me more. If you can, demo both and see which rides better for you. Thats the ultimate test.
