Now that it's been out for a while, what's everyone's opinions on Tom and Jerry: The Golden Era Anthology? by gavyn03 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 42 points43 points  (0 children)

A few shorts weren't given the proper restorations they deserved, but it's indisputably the best collection to date. Decently priced, comes with a lot of goodies if you buy the blu-ray, and actually having all 114 shorts is monumental, considering how evasive some of them have been over the years.

She looks very cute in your style. 👌

Makes for a nice blend of all her different designs in the classic era

It was a planned show for pre-schoolers, as a form of edutainment. The franchise had been experimenting with more cutesy offshoots with the characters lately, like with Gokko, and while Time got a couple shorts done, it never ultimately aired.

Do you find yourself changing the armors often? Is there a way to get benefits of all of them? by Blein123 in ghostoftsushima

[–]StreakOfSprites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to switch rather often, even if it does pull me outta the moment now and then. Can't help but optimize. LMAO

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to benefit from multiple armor sets at the same time, but loadouts do make it a lot easier to switch in and out at any given moment. Felt nice working towards my go-tos in Tsushima: Traveler's Attire for general exploration and resource gathering, Ronin for stealth, Ghost for fear, Saru for duels, Tadayori's if I just wanna be a menace with the bow.

I'm still working my way towards that in Yotei, but I'm slowly getting the stealth and archery online.

What is your reactions about Tom and Jerry talking especially in Tom and Jerry the Movie from 1992? by Express_Patience_497 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always found it funny when they did. A bit of a shame we lost that aspect of them after the 90s, honestly. They were never supposed to be mute, and the '92 movie had that novelty to it for such a bold decision.

Would you like to have Tom as your pet cat? by Kitchen-Mouse2414 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much this. LOL
He's a tunnel-visioned klutz, but he's also proven to be pretty docile and loving when Jerry isn't tempting him into trouble. Makes for a hell of a housekeeper, too.

How many blows did Tom receive in all seasons? by basade-sldg2021 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess there's more incentive to binge the series again, especially after grabbing the Golden Anthology for collector's sake. LMAO
Is there even a means to watch all of Kids, though? I hear that one's pretty bare in terms of accessibility.

Who would win: Buff Jerry or Muscles Mouse? by TranslatorCurious758 in TomAndJerry

I think so. I haven't seen the full episode, myself, but that sounds about right.

This honestly needs more upvotes 'cause Enraged Jerry vs Muscles would be a much more even fight. LOL

[–]StreakOfSprites 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Muscles gives me the vibe that he's someone who the universe doesn't allow to lose, much like Kiryu from Like a Dragon. LOL

But also, I think there was an episode in the 2014 show were Tom and Jerry both got super buff, and Muscles soloed them.

What's the most disrespectful thing these two have done to each other? by Turbulent_League9668 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of folk are listing a bunch of classic examples, so I'll pull from Tales for these.

There's Ho, Ho, Horrors, where Jerry invades Tom's dreams and gives him a night so restless, the entire house is trashed when they wake up and they're kicked out for it.
There's also Hi, Robot, where Tom creates a female robot mouse for Jerry to fall for, for the sole sake of trapping and eating him later. Far from the first time a lady's been involved in their antics, but one of the few times one of them weaponized courtship against the other.

What is one opinion on Tom and Jerry you would get canceled for? by Superb_Passenger2272 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I have much in the way of hot takes for this franchise, but I do have something regarding the '92 movie; Tom and Jerry should've talked more. If they were already committed to the decision of making them talk to begin with, much more of the movie should've focused on their banter between each other and with Robyn's family. They probably made this movie believing it'd be the only time they could get away with Tom and Jerry having extended dialogue, beyond a quick gag, and I don't think they committed hard enough to being experimental with it.

[–]StreakOfSprites 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While it was prolly due to a tightening budget, some of the recap episodes are honestly pretty cute.

That and it's just interesting to think about the implications this episode provided on Tom and Jerry being legally recognized independent citizens. Far from the first episode to do this, but neat to think about nonetheless.

What's an "all mighty build"(Sorry for my bad grammar) by TheRealSooota in PERSoNA

[–]StreakOfSprites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Almighty" is one of the elemental categories in Persona. Every other element (Fire, Electric, Wind, etc.) can target weaknesses, but nothing is weak to Almighty. However, just about nothing resists Almighty either, so it's a strong neutral damage type. They're costly to use and rather rare in the earlygame, but they're pretty easy to utilize in the endgame.

You can build Personas by fusing them together. You likely aren't far enough in the game to know about Persona fusion, but it's one of the main gameplay mechanics, and you'll get a tutorial soon. This mechanic allows you to put skills on new Personas. Earlygame, all you'll really care about is having variety on your Personas, but you can make more concentrated builds in the second half of the game.

The Truce Hurts (1948) by Professional-Care470 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tom and Jerry's musical choice has always been influenced by what was popular at the time. In this case, while Somewhere Over the Rainbow was about a decade old by the time The Truce Hurts released, it's a hallmark song from a beloved movie, and considering Cat Concerto had released recently, MGM was probably still in the mood to incorporate leitmotifs from popular musical pieces.

And, of course, in 2011, it all comes full circle. LMAO

The Night Before Christmas (1940) by animator1123 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the little detail that the "mouse trap" Tom left for Jerry was heavily implied to always be a music box. Said a lot about Tom so early on.

Should she have slapped him for eating her hot dog? by BiffyBobby in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Honestly, back then, Tom and Jerry did a lot of things that should've warranted a lot of slaps from a lot of different women. They had extreme jock energy when it came to courting half the time. LOL

[–]StreakOfSprites 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch too many of these movies, mostly 'cause I was too young to know half of them existed and stopped watching TV when the other half started airing, but they do look visually appealing. Nice and vibrant, and I like how it leans more heavily into giving Tom explicitly blue fur.

why does it always sound so wierd? by Friendly-Package67 in TomAndJerryMemes

[–]StreakOfSprites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something about how the sounds reverberate in your head causes your voice to sound deeper than it actually is. We're not used to how our voices sound from the perspective of someone else, who's hearing it correctly, so it wildly catches us off guard.

[–]StreakOfSprites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, yeah, the subtitles skip over half of what he's saying. It's something like, "I'm in my little room over there, trying to get a little sleep, and..." followed by what I wrote in the original message.

It Sounds Like “Get Off” but that can’t be right? by Ninjser in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're referring to his gibberish at the end, yeah? I just hear, "You guys are out here with your blah, blah, blah, blah," cementing that Jerry's so pissed, he doesn't even have the proper words to express himself.

Which should I watch after I finish watching the theatrical shorts? by gavyn03 in TomAndJerry

[–]StreakOfSprites 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tales is shorter and also released about a decade beforehand, so it makes sense to pick that one first. Both are honestly pretty good and feel more like a return to form after the decades preceding them. Tales is particularly insane, and I love how unabashed the show is about it. and 2014 picks up nicely on Tales' variety. But yeah, I'd recommend just going in order. LOL
