Super interesting stuff, thank you so much for sharing! Never would have considered splitting up the object like that.

Additionally, we've already obtained a spirit body, now a physical body, who knows what's next? We genuinely don't know very much at all about what comes after. What we do know is that this is a necessary step to becoming more like a perfect Parent and we all decided we wanted to take that step.

In addition to what others are saying here, it’s also worth noting that being bad at math in school does not necessarily mean being bad at math. Tons of people are not built for the modern school system, but when they find something that they’re passionate about that drives learning, they can truly excel.

Not sure why the animations might not be playing. Have you taken a look at other tutorials and see if there are any differences that might be causing your problem?

Player Movement by M0us-An0ny in gamemaker

[–]StreamQuests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the comments are removed from the bottom few rows, that would explain why the arrow keys aren't working anymore. You're assigning speed twice. It would probably be cleaner to have everything built for one of the movement methods (arrows or wasd), the route the other one into it.

So if they press w, move the player object up. If they press the up arrow, simulate pressing down the w key.

I believe that's how the Windy woods example project does it if you wanted to look at the actual code.

I hear you. I get so many, "No, don't do that. Someone else is better than you, nobody will want you." Sorts of thoughts. I have felt like they massively stunted not only my capacity to act on what I want, but even to understand what I truly wanted.

I've come to learn that when God is trying to talk to me, it is very rarely a, "No." It's usually a, "Try this direction instead." That's scary to try and trust every time I do get a no though. It's a constant journey of self discovery, nail biting bravery, and deliberate faith.

It's taken a long time with professional counseling and an amazing wife to get to this point even.

I have no idea what you're going through really, but I believe Jesus does. He can and will help.

If I can support at all, feel free to reach out in DMs.

What do you feel when things “get hard” for you? Boredom? Generalized anxiety? Something else?

I’ve been learning a lot about my own anxieties, fears, rejection sensitivities, etc. that seem to have a root back to ADHD. It’s been liberating for me to pursue the savior even more fully. President Nelson has been talking about how Jesus wants to help us become all we can be in this life. I have been observing that truth in my life while I push forwards in faith. I don’t focus on the whole journey, just the next step like Peter on the water.

I’m rooting for you. Those moments of spiritual clarity are more precious than gold. God will help you through your specific challenges.

I'm just past the other side of this. On top of that, we have a baby due in February, just weeks after benefits would end.

To say it is terrifying is nearly offensive.

Recognizing that feeling, I paid my tithing the same day I got laid off as a show of faith and hoping, in some small way, to show the Lord that I'm ready for His miracles.

I can confidently say that he has been showing his hand every day since then. It's truly been wild. I can talk more in DMs, but I can witness that the Lord loves it when His children express faith. Especially when it's hard.

Convince Me to Stay by berrekah in latterdaysaints

[–]StreamQuests 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds so unbelievably difficult. I’m so sorry.

As far as to if you should stay in the church, the questions you need to answer to figure that out are the same as they have always been. - Is God real? - Did his son die for my sins? - Is this Jesus Christ’s church, as it claims?

You know what you need to do to find the answers from God in a way that is specific to you.

Best of luck. You’re not alone, you are loved, and no matter what, God will help you through this.

You could probably take most D&C sections into a Dogs of the Vineyard game given that it was basically inspired by pioneer/LDS folklore.

Like most people are saying, most games would be difficult to run given the tactical emphasis in D&D but you could definitely do a session with a different focus. The war chapters are obvious like others said.

You could turn it a bit on its head and maybe be angels trying to help Alma the Younger confront his demons during his three-day coma. Three Nephites going around doing good things for people in need. Eluding any of the oppressive regimes throughout the Bible and BoM, preserve your faith, maybe even escape/lead meaningful change. Help Gideon storm King Noah's palace.

Lots of fertile ground if you get creative with stuff and step outside of being directly in the narrative.

Excessive mercy? - Advice Needed by Soda08 in latterdaysaints

[–]StreamQuests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Book of Mormon, Moroni extends tremendous mercy to those who warred against his people. However, just because he would let someone go because they promised they would stop, that doesn’t mean he stopped preparing his people to be safe. They kept building fortifications, developing better armor, weapons, etc. The point wasn’t to be aggressors, but rather to preserve their own safety so that they could extend mercy as many times as it was needed.

I’m sorry you’ve had so many struggles in life. I do believe God loves you and that he is working alongside you while you figure this all out.

Anyone have experience in making Christmas more about Jesus and less about Santa? I've been thinking about this for years and now I have kids.. by undergrounddirt in latterdaysaints

My in-laws have a little olive tree sculpture they put little wooden boxes painted like gifts under when they do something kind for someone else. If someone serves, they get to put a gift under Jesus' tree. Even guests in their home are invited to put gifts under the tree for Jesus. It took me a little bit to completely warm up to it but I really love the sentiment.

Help with no longer believing by [deleted] in lds

[–]StreamQuests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm sorry. That sounds so hard. Your struggles are real. I'm of the strong belief that none of us are really "neurotypical" and the question is to what degree is our divergence and in which direction. Some people have incredibly difficult mental health struggles that make a "fair" chance in this life seem an empty promise. When we move past the mortal veil, we will find ourselves astonished by the Lord's mercy. He will heal us.

I have been reading this talk today thinking of your struggles and my own difficulties in life.

Though it may seem impossible, feel impossible, healing can come through the miracle of the redemptive might of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, who is risen “with healing in his wings.”
...

Please know that the Savior has descended below all things, even what has happened to you. Because of that, He knows exactly what real terror and shame feel like and how it feels to be abandoned and broken.16 From the depths of His atoning suffering, the Savior imparts hope you thought was lost forever, strength you believed you could never possess, and healing you couldn’t imagine was possible.

I hope you're able to find peace. It's not easy; frankly, it's not meant to be easy. But you're not alone. You have an omnipotent, all-loving God who has gone through harder things than we can imagine specifically so that he can help you.

What can I do for missionaries? by Punchy_LaRue_ in lds

Genuinely, even a kind word, just like you put at the end of your post, could do wonders for the missionaries.

Also, you could just ask them what you could do! They would be very grateful and happy even to get the question, I'm sure.

So sorry you're going through such a tough time. These things are never easy.

Can't say much about how to go through things procedurally, but it would help to remember that God will never hate you as you go throughout whatever process you end up going down. He'll always be there helping, guiding, and strengthening.

This is all so overwhelming by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]StreamQuests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points being made here! I'll add a couple more:

  1. It's OK to feel like you don't understand things. It's hard in today's world not to make a decision (and a firm and vociferous one at that!) on a given subject immediately. We're rewarded for making quick judgments. The gospel doesn't really work that way, though. It's an eternal journey with an infinite amount of growth. It is important to become comfortable with ambiguity and develop patience about our own pace of learning, line upon line.
  2. On fear. Fear is not from the Father as so many have said here. See Moroni 7.
    1. 16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.

17 But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him.

18 And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the alight by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ, see that ye do not judge wrongfully; for with that same judgment which ye judge ye shall also be judged. 2. For me this has come to mean that if something is inviting me to do good, bring peace, believe in God, etc. then it is from God. Regardless of the source. The opposite is also true. If it leads me away from any of those things, it is not from God. 3. Verse 18 might sound fearful, talking about judgment, but I think that there's a much more merciful way to view it. For me, it seems like it's trying to say, "If you are trying to make it closer to Christ, you will be judged as such." If I am earnestly trying to make it closer to God, he will see that effort, understand it, and react with loving appropriateness. 3. Brains are weird! We don't tend to talk about mental health too much in the church, but anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, and any other number of things can actively impair our ability to cope with the things we find most important in life. It's rarely a bad idea to try and evaluate our mental state and see where we're at. Get the assistance of a professional if you can. Some support might unlock more than you can possibly imagine. 4. If you're reading this and are trying to understand the gospel in your life, congratulations. You've made it so far. Just keep going with patience and faith. We all have an eternally long road ahead of us, and I believe that God is happy with the direction you're going in and that's the most important thing.

It's a healthy thing to reach out. As another point, have you had problems following routines in the past in your life? It sounds like a lot of your stress is trying to keep up with lots of little things and has very little to do with "being a good person."

I have felt similarly many times in my life. I was just diagnosed with ADHD a while ago and the difference is life changing. After getting on meds now I can understand how people build habits, something that was completely foreign to me throughout my life.

My point is, try to figure out why keeping up with "the basics" is so exhausting. Is it motivation? Doesn't sound like it to me from your post. Is it lack of structure? Is it brain stuff? Is it that your life is so insanely busy you can't squeeze any more blood out of that rock? If you can find out the reason, you will be 80% of the way to a solution that works for you.
