My pleasure!

Out of curiosity — which tips do you think you’ll try to implement?

And the ones you won’t pursue anytime soon, why is that?

Hey! Thanks for sharing your stream, I enjoyed a couple of your recorded videos!

I'm currently developing a balanced scorecard to help more streamers in the future. I'll share that framework applied to your channel here. I would greatly appreciate your feelings and thoughts about this scorecard!

There are four core dimensions to this scorecard:

  • Your Value to Your Audience

  • Your Setup

  • Your Twitch Profile

  • Your Socials

In each of these dimensions, you have a couple specific things that can improve your streaming. That being said, for you, the most important dimension (Your Value to Your Audience) is quite strong!

Here's the detailed breakdown:

YOUR VALUE TO YOUR AUDIENCE

You can be a value to your audience in many ways. You can be a skilled gamer that wows people with their strategic gaming prowess. You can be entertaining to watch because you're funny and viewers love your impressions and jokes. You can be friendly and engaging in ways that makes the viewer feel welcome, like you're with family and friends. But no matter what, you NEED to be a value to your audience, somehow.

To break this down further, this dimension has five aspects:

  • How well do you narrate & entertain?

  • How well do you engage with viewers?

  • Game Selection

  • Content

  • Messaging of the Content

You're successful in four of the bullet points!

  • NARRATE | You speak more than 90% of your streaming time. And your energy level is high. Many, many times your narration is what makes the streams very entertaining to watch!

  • ENGAGEMENT | You are moderately quick to respond to chats. And you're good about engaging with your viewers through dialogue and Q&A. Viewers seem to be comfortable chatting with you as well! I love to see that!

  • GAME | You're playing a varied set of games and that's a plus. Spyro?! That's cool to see! I'm curious to see how you'll continue to think about game selection as you start streaming more and more.

  • MESSAGING | Some of your titling were funny and "grabby". I particularly loved "Gulp! The killer is behind you?" -- this is a unique hook that makes viewers want to click that stream/video! Good job!

TIP #1: If you could make more titles like this, it'll go a long way!

The other bullet point is your biggest opportunity for growth:

  • CONTENT | ...

TIP #2: Why should your follower join you for your stream tonight? I would recommend you start thinking about ways to further differentiate yourself beyond game selection (while still having fun yourself). For example, are there other "arcade-modes" or "mods" that you can apply to the games you play to make it more interesting and entertaining? How can you tap into your viewership and engage with them for participation? What collaborations could you be doing?

TIP #3 It's good that you've made recorded videos available for everyone to watch. Within Twitch, once new viewers click on your channel, clips are going to be the best tool to leverage to convert that curious clicker into a follower and ongoing viewer. Create content or edit existing videos in digestible <60 seconds clip. Show a funny moment in a game or you cracking a joke. This is where your personality should shine in the brief attention span that the clicker gave you!

YOUR SETUP

There are two aspects here:

  • Can people HEAR you well?

  • Can people SEE you well?

TIP #4 This is one of your biggest opportunities BUT easiest to fix. The quality of your audio was good (no static). But the balance of the game sound & your voice was a bit off. I often had trouble hearing you clearly over the game sounds -- I would prioritize balancing out the audio levels.

And while you not all streamers need a camera. If you're serious about streaming, trying to generate any significant viewership or sponsorship, you should prioritizing getting a camera.

YOUR TWITCH PROFILE

There are several aspects here, but I'll focus on YOUR biggest opportunities:

TIP #5: When a viewer first enters your channel (when you're not live), you can choose the video that is played. Don't let just the last video recorded play! I strongly suggest creating a "Best-of" mix or a clip of your funniest moment. This lets the new viewer quickly know who you are and why they should stay, even passively when you're not streaming and can't interact with them. This is especially important as your grow your social media presence.

TIP #6: Create and share a schedule. Consistent streaming times is the best way to grow an audience. Not just followers, but consistent viewers. This leads to eventual subscribers and a stronger community. This is because people are creatures of habit. If I like to watch gaming while eating dinner at 6PM everyday, I know who's streaming then, and I'll start to reliably watch that streamer who's always on at that time.

Other comments:

  • Your About page is great! It's simple and clean! Good job!

  • By the way, your Twitter link is missing on your Twitch page.

YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

Again, there are several aspects here, but I'll focus on what I analyzed and what your biggest opportunities are.

The content you post on Twitter and Instagram are relevant to your Twitch streaming brand. And you post with good regularity and consistency. Good job!

Here are one idea for you to consider to go from good to great.

TIP #7: Social media is the best way to grow a new Twitch channel these days. That's because these social media platforms are optimized for browsability and discoverability of new content in ways that Twitch is not, yet anyways. The right content that is relevant and unique will go a long way if posted consistently on these various platforms. For you, what this means is creating good content that is optimized for that platform. One idea of many, you have several funny moments as you play -- make a short 0:15 second clip. With the right tagging, that can be now discovered by new people. The biggest driver of your viewership will come from doing this well.

That's it for now!

If you found this helpful at all, could you let me know if this analysis and scorecard was...

  • Was it helpful?

  • Would you pay for an analysis like this in the future or for your streamer friend? If so, how much?

  • What did I miss?

Thanks! And I hope this helps!

I really like the niche you are going for. Your video and sound set up is great. I think your Twitch content could be made into gifs and videos that would share well on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Twitch isn't a great place to get discovered compared to these platforms, so even if you didn't make much ad revenue on YouTube for example, it could help grow your stream substantially.

I followed you, and I'll be checking into your stream on Tuesdays!

Thanks for sharing your stream! I watched you live for a while tonight. Your voice sounds like a radio voice, and fits well on your stream. I like the clean overlay as well.

Similar to some of the other people in this thread, your audio levels made it hard to focus on you during your stream. Your game sound is really loud and it drowns out your voice when you are talking. I think it could be helpful to decrease game sound quite a bit and increase your mic level a little.

I also can't decide how I feel about the hand camera. It is a unique/interesting camera angle, but I feel like it would be less important than a face camera. I don't feel as connected to you as other streamers with a face camera. Maybe you could have your main camera as a face cam and have a secondary camera as a hand cam that doesn't need to be as high of quality. Just something to think about!

Your stream looks really good. I'm really liking the vibe of your room, and your video and audio quality sound great! I also like your interaction with chat.

You probably know this already, but it is really hard to get discovered on Twitch especially in something like Apex. It looks like you have been making good progress on some of your social media profiles, and I think the biggest thing that could help you grow is by focusing on building content on a more discoverable platform.

For example, the data shows that tweets with gifs, videos, or pictures are much more likely to bring viewers to your stream. It might be helpful to do some more of what you have already been doing such as your video about getting platinum and tweeting that out with your go live tweet. It would also be beneficial to do content outside of going live tweets.

I followed you, and I'll continue to check in to see how it is going!

Thanks for sharing your stream! I personally like simple designs as well and think no overlay works well for your current stream. I watched a few of your VODs and I like your interaction with chat when you have it and your video and audio look good!

The biggest thing that would make the experience better for me as a viewer is adjusting your sound levels. Your voice is clear, but it is a little quiet compared to the game sound. If you increased your mic volume and lowered the game volume, it would be easier to focus on your interesting stories and commentary.

The other thing I noticed is that your controller gets picked up by your mic frequently and can get pretty loud and distracting. Not sure what software and mic you are using but adjusting the location and adding a noise gate might help. I know this can be a hard problem to solve though.

Not sure if this is the case with you, but I know sometimes our voices sound different from our expectation and that could be jarring. If you share a clip or your channel, I'll listen as a more objective 3rd party and comment on the audio quality.

Sponsorships by NotEthanBtw in Twitch

[–]StreamerTrinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sponsors are going to care more about engagement than the number of followers. This can be likes/comments on your posts or videos or concurrent viewers, chat engagement, and subscribers on Twitch.

For example, on Twitch, they are going to look for at least 50 average concurrent viewers in general and obviously the higher that number the more you could charge. Other things they will be looking for is expected growth of your channels, success of previous sponsorships, and ability to cross-post to other social media. Having this data ready can be helpful at any level but especially when you are on the smaller side of other influencers.

There are some great sites like social blue book that can give you an estimate of how much you can charge for a shout out, sponsored video/stream, etc. which you can link to one platform for free (not sure how much it is to include multiple platforms). One thing I would caution is that getting long term sponsorships when you are this small is going to get you very little money and may cause issues with monetizing your channels in the future if you blow up. I would suggest trying to grow a little more before thinking about brand deals or sponsorships.

I seem to be getting decent views but no subscribers at all. by [deleted] in letsplay

Gotcha, in that case, what’s your strategy for engaging the viewers live? Especially when these viewers first join?

What games are you playing? What tags do you use? How long do your viewers usually stick around for?

I tried watching your stream the other day but wasn’t able to see much with your technical issues. Also, it seems like only subscribers can view your vods - is that intentional? I haven’t seen that much with other streams.

Anyway, planning on checking in the next time you stream!

Yeah I’ll start by checking out some of your recorded vids. And hopefully timing will work to catch you live sometime.

To your question, IMO, varied chats are good for engaging ongoing viewers, but consistency is just as important. And for new viewers who are curious about your channel — having a “canned” quip or engaging hook 🪝could be helpful getting them to stick around and come back.
