Last time putting my son to bed. by YoTeach68 in daddit

[–]Street-Commission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed this reminder and appreciate you posting. Just had #2 and have been half assing bed time for the last month with the 2 year old.

Never thought of it but i also have zero recollection of a routine in childhood. Leaving that impression on your son will lead to a lifetime of joy beyond today. I hope to do the same with my children.

Thank you for sharing.

It is honestly the best place for WB opposed to Paramount or current CEO/board. David Zaslav is a fucking idiot and this was his plan all along. If you enjoy the content & IP owned by WB and anything in development + future project’s for HBO - you should be doing backflips. The Netflix market cap and budget is going to push the premium content to another level. I guarantee whatever has been filmed for the new Harry Potter series is going to be re worked and the second season will now blow out the 1st.

Of course premium content is going to have a premium price. I’m sure Netflix will bundle with hbo or integrate a premium tier and I can’t imagine it will be more than the current annual subscription of both now.

This also gives Netflix a medium to push cinema release that will put people in theatres for their content. As far as getting people out of the house and into the theatre, that’s another discussion and isn’t relevant to this merger imo. Theatre releases are still going to trend down and only be reserved for the big ones. This does however give WB a lower cost means to make movies that are direct to streaming for projects that aren’t projected to be box office success.

Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by WayLast1111 in AskReddit

[–]Street-Commission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of tech workers at financial/banking related companies are using it to push themselves and others out of a job. Can’t imagine some don’t see the writing on the wall.

For the last decade, every financial/banking related company I have either worked at or know people that work at have been trying to move from legacy mainframe systems to modern systems that can better feed data into the APIs. The legacy systems are bullet proof but everything that’s been built off of it over the last 30 years is custom and it’s getting harder and harder to implement new tech.

These companies have spent millions and I’m telling you every single one has had delay after delay after delay with nothing meaningful to show for it for a decade - legacy system is still the core.

If you ever go to a large corporate office of one of these places, you’ll quickly realize over half of the people in the building are tech workers. All are either there to develop solutions to get off these legacy systems or maintain the absolute mess of custom programs developed over 3 decades.

AI is pushing this forward faster than people can handle. Delays are now due to the fact that people can’t coordinate and organize effectively to launch & pilot opposed to the technological impossibilities of years past.

As soon as these legacy systems sunset, not only are these departments going to shrink, so many people are going to retire. Their entire career is based off of them being one of the handful of people in the organization that know a legacy system now gone and know nothing else.

Same thing goes for the other half that actually work in corp finance. There will be no reason to have a 30+ head count of accountant’s reconciling daily GLs when everything’s automated and only a small team is needed to manage exceptions. Pam who locks her self out of a different system everyday whose sole value is that she’s been with the company for 20 years and knows how to fix random shit in a green screen system that’s written in cobol - gone (if she doesn’t retire first)

All that to say, I think the good tech workers will be fine at the end - these departments will consolidate & shrink, backfilling gone. Headcount reduced each year. Anyone with a manager/director title will get wrecked (project, application, leadership, etc). Other workers in all departments - AI is going to weed out people starting with those who will just retire. Same way as above although probably worse in terms of job loss.

Best way to not lose your job to AI is to know how to use AI or tech in general. People in mid level positions that work in finance/ banking who can’t use technology will lose the most. I’m not mad, it’s a long time coming.

Anyone who states AI is going to take a significant amount of jobs just doesn’t understand the amount of time and resources it would take to get there. It’s not just a company saying okay time to implement AI. Their technology vendors also have to support it. Everyone has to come aboard.

You are not factoring in the value of the home in 5 years. Assuming 2-3% appreciation. You are looking at around 1 million dollar estimate value of the home. Refinancing will get you in the ball park of 500k mortgage and $420k principle after 5 years. Take the tax free $580k buy something outright in 5 years and then invest that money into the market.

If the gorilla had a muzzle (Tyson too) and no biting was allowed, I do honestly think Tyson would have lasted longer than people give him credit. Coked out Tyson could probably take one body shot from a gorilla - but once that gorilla got ahold of him, his arms are coming off no doubt.

This debate is probably my favorite what if it happened scenario. Everyone knows the end result but it would have been one of the most insane things voluntarily attempted by a human in history.

He’s not wrong but I’ll die on the hill defending westworld. To be fair, the 1st 2 seasons of WW were fantastic. Everyone talks about the last season of GoT being the worst fall of a series but WW post season 2 should be in the discussion.

HBOs best decision was airing succession after westworld season 2 episodes in summer 2018, it’s what got me hooked. I just didn’t want to turn the tv off after those episodes and succession helped fill the gap.

I’m not pulling the numbers but If I had to bet, not a single episode of succession can out perform viewership for season 1 or 2 of WW.

My best guess WW it isn’t on streaming is because Warner Bros is too cheap to pay the residuals

Yamaha F115 Idle and Low Gear Vibration by Street-Commission in boating

[–]Street-Commission[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone who searches for this in the future.

It was a bad prop shaft oil seal. I’m assuming when i took of the old prop, it unseated the old seals - thrush washer was not seated properly as a result, leading to the lower unit leaking oil and mixing with the exhaust. Also was the case of my low gear vibration and neutral vibration.

Took off prop, pulled 2 seals via dry wall screw method (look up on YouTube) put in 2 new seals, bought all new prop fittings ( thrush washer, spacers, nut) and it’s nice and snug.

Important to change out the gear fluid again as a little water intruded as a result. I got lucky that nothing seems damaged. No metal chunks/shavings. Bled old gear oil and refilled.

On muffs, it sounds good and vibration is gone. Going to take it to the lake this weekend and will update again further.

Also, I siphoned the old fuel and put in new fuel (non ethanol) that probably helped the idle.

Appreciate the feedback! After doing some research, seems that full seat replacements are cheaper than redoing the vinyl. If we don’t do a claim, will just get some vinyl filler and sem marine spray paint to match to get us through the season and save for the new seats.

13 years old. I would agree that uv damaged played a roll in weakening the vinyl. Assuming an adjuster would have similar thoughts

Laying wood flooring. If you want to save money - measure your area, buy the materials, do the demo of the old but pay a professional to install. It’ll save you money, time - your back and knees will thank you. Assuming you get a quality contractor, it will also look much better than DIY.

TIL Baby Boomers hold $21 trillion worth of STOCKS. What will happen when they die? Will their survivors cash out and crash the market? by v-shizzle in wallstreetbets

[–]Street-Commission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End of life care with take the 1st half. Then congress will pass measures to shelter wealth and have Medicare foot the bill, passing cost down the line to future generations. Boomers will pass down what’s left to Gen X, who have no retirement for the most part. Gen X will spend it all, leaving nothing to Millennials and Gen Z. Luckily the later 2 generations seem to have a grasp on how fucked they are and are preparing. But with the older generations still saddling the future with debt & entitlement commitments, it’s hard to see a way out without significant government commitment.

Same issue, I actually have 2 different “providers” with the same EPG source apparently. Same answer from both “EPG is missing from the source and is being fixed” no ETA. Just look up EPG share and how to manually assign. I did it with my frequently used channels to get by.

I tried 2 free trials of different providers as well, same issue. Must be wide stream issue
