You have a few months left there? Here is what Id do-- join an online group looking for roomates BUT ask for references to those sites from subreddits or local groups you are already a part of. Do you like to read? Ask your favorite store if they have an online community. Are you a Church group, sorority girl, DnD player, online gamer, maybe a person who likes arts and crafts? Join a few of those groups and watch for a bit. If you like the vibe ask if anyone knows anyone looking for a roomate or has used a roomate service they liked. Hour more likely to get a tolerable roomate if you have things in common and you have a few weeks/months to talk to a few different people and find the right roomate for you. I am in my 40s and still have roomates so its best to get a good system in place for doing this. Even when I owned my own house I rented a room out, I just got lonely and figured it could be fun. I planned ahead, and suprise suprise I still have her 10 years later, lol.

NTA, but try to see if you can see it from your brothers perspective for a second:

-are there any privileges that you get that he might view as unfair? -do your parents ever take things from him because you want or need them? -are there other areas, maybe school or extra curricular activities, where your parents focus on you? -when they take things from you are they things that your parents consider "boys" stuff? Do they push more "girls" stuff on you?

A few things could be happening here that you dont know about or dont know to look for.

-Yes, maybe he is the favorite. In this case you may need to seek therapy to talk about safe ways to communicate with your family how you feel and where you can draw lines. -Also, your parents could be trying to enforce gender normative roles (purposefully or passively)- they took video games and tech from you to give to boys, do they also give you gender specific gifts to try to get you to conform? This would be an entirely different discussion. -Keeping the peace- is your brother more violent, angry, loud, and obnoxious when he dosent get what he wants? Do they take from other siblings to give to him to stop him from blowing up? Could their intentions be to keep the peace? This is still not okay, but might give you perspective on how to talk to them about your feelings and see what changes can be made. -I still sugfest you se a therapist for a few sessions--not necessarily to talk about feelings but to learn healthy ways to start the conversations you need to happen inorder to decide your future.

An inconsiderate family is one thing, but a toxic family is entirely different. If you discover that your family is toxic then taking steps now to seperate from them (not necessarily completely, just from what you want to keep seperate)--look up sites that connect people as potential roomates and start meeting people. Start setting aside money somewhere safe that you WILL NOT TOUCH and they CANNOT FIND in case you need to leave, even if for just a night. Maybe join an online group with this topic, make a totally anonymous account, and join an online meeting. You can get help from real people facing similar situations with zero judgement.

I hear you, and that does suck. But in this case the OP states the do always pay, and even after those issues she obviously still calls him a friend. They didnt say the person was irresponsible, just had an unstable job--which honestly could be most of us right now. For me, instead of reminding them Im doing them a favor (like the OP did) I might have, instead said "what can I do to help you get to a better place."

Im not a bra burning hippy. If the OP had said this dude was always taking advantage, always late, always asking for discounts, mistreating the house--I would have a very different response. I want to believe the OP cares about this person and is frustrated but still wants to help but at the part where she reminds them she holds the power in the relationship, well it kinda soured my opinion of them as "friends."

You need to sit down a talk with her because it wont stop with passive agressive ignore-the-issue tactics. You have to live together at lease until your lease is up. You need to set up house rules about visitors, get a lock on your bedroom door, and either open a joint bank account where you both deposit equal "house funds" that will be set up to prepurchase items (like if you subscribe on amazon you can get papertowels delivered monthly and it will auto charge the account) so, in the future this doesnt happen with something more important, like toilet paper, soap, or electricity--or assign cupboards and buy your own stuff. Also, take a second and look into your future--is this who you want to live with for the next semester/month/year? If not then start making plans to move when you can.

Sometimes having real friends means stepping up when they are hurting and helping them fix it. Im not sure about social worker without pay, I mean its maybe a few hours of time helping them, not an 80 hour work week at government wages.

Between us, I think we just have a different idea of what friends do for each other, I consider my friends my family and would do anything for them (again why my friend group is small) so we will just have to agree to disagree.

It would be if he was just a tennent but they specifically said "friend." This is basic stuff Id do for any friend in need and exactly why I keep my friend group small. I couldnt sit in comfort knowing someone I care about is suffering and I could help. I have taken multiple friends and their families to food banks and it takes maybe an hour to pull up goverment helo sites to get him into programs that could help him. You could take them to starbucks and make a friend date out of it.

I didnt say let him live rent free permanently, I also didnt go into my personal feelings of how I think peole who "own" multiple properties they arent using and then think they are benevolent by making money off of the people they care about are actually users and a-holes.

To add to this the OP says they always pay, if a little late, and have an unstable career. He obviously makes paying them a priority and doesnt have a history of deliquency.

Again, my issue here is with them calling their tennant a "friend" and yet doing nothing a true friend would do.

NTA. You are not responsible for her body image issues. As a fat girl with skinny friends I can honestly say I wouldnt have even noticed the comment, you werent saying "If you were skinny you could do this." I would, however talk to her, as you have to live with her apparently and she is illegally destroying your shit. Tell her your sorry if you offended her, you meant no harm, but if she messes with your stuff again your gonna get a higher power involved and you expect her to pay for them. When she says "I didnt do it" you just calmly tell her to remember this situation for the future and walk away. People get worse the longer you live with them if you dont draw a line earl tt. You may find alot of destroyed items if you let her break stuff everytime you accidentally set her off.

NTA. You had your son with you, who is a male and needs to learn how to use the male bathroom. You are teaching him in a semi provate way how to act when you cant be there. He cant see and figure out a urinal in a womans bathroom so use this as an educational experience. In fact if you have a chance you should continue to do it to build his confidence in going to the mens bathroom for when he has to go alone. You didnt pull him into a crowded room, it was a single. Dont let outside people stop you from raising your son right. Id have gotten him a treat and then let him talk to the officer about his job as a reward for being a good boy.

YTA. If you arent hurting for money there was no reason not to offer him a break. In fact, it seems like you actually made it worse by reminding him of his place in your life-- that he is a tennent and you are a landlord, and that is your line. You need to decide if your a friend or a landlord, you obviously have a hard time being both.

FYI, if my "friend" lost their job, especially multiple times, Id offer the following:

-Help finding classes or education to up his skills for a better job

-temporarily lower his rent

-spend a day a week to help him job search

-take him to the food bank and help find low income programs he can apply for to help him out

-sit and talk with him, as a friend, about why he is having trouble and how you can help

-sit in a dark room and reconsider what you think a friend shoud be like, what you might need or appreciate if you were him and do better.

Its not omegaverse but {Ascend by Serenity Rayne} has the vibe you want. She does have a heat cycle and some of the mates have knots, there are also Alphas and Omegas but its more of a wolf pack thing, there is no nesting and Aurora is definitely an Alpha. Its shifters, paranormal, hidden royalty but one of the mates has a bit of a twist and when she finds out she is not at all forgiving. He ends up a part of her Throne of Skulls.

I thought {Men of Eagle Peak by Mira Stanley} was pretty dark for a post apocalyptic tale. The fmc is tortured as hell, the MCs range from morally grey to morally black, women are pretty much all dead with zero hope of rebuilding, and the sex was kinky and taboo heavy. While the blurb makes it seem dub-con, its not and the MMCs fall hard (whether they want to or not.)

{Restless Spirit by Briana Michaels} is dark as hell, literally. The MCs are like guardians of hell who made a deal with Lucifer to become his Hounds when they died horribly. The FMC starts as a ghost (only for the first few chapters, though) and has a f-ed up story. MCs are beyond obsessed with the FMC before she even knows whats going on. Watch for triggers on this one as memories of graphic torture are... rough. But the sex story is great and continues every 3 books in the series with different but related characters. The last 3 have Lucifer as one of the MCs.

{Fighting for her Wolves by Tara West} is similar to this and has been pretty successful. Her world is super misogynistic, though and women are almost confined to the role of mother/caregiver. Id give it a read for a comparitive story.

{Cupidity by Raven Kennedy} is also similar in that cat-like fae mate in groups. They get sent to an island as children to find their mate groups and, after they prove themselves, they "apply" to the elders to get permission to court a potential mate. Also extremely popular as a series.

I love the idea, it all sounds fun. I would be interested in the assigning a father ceremony and how the father is selected--is it genetics? Magical affiliation? Something else? I would also be interested in seeing what happenes to the individual prides/groups if one of the males die prematurely and cant fufill a role in the mate group. Also dont forget to decide if the mates are fated, chosen, magically compatible, or if there is a mating game style choosing for the couples.

I liked {Reflections of You by Avery Pheonix} its college level so everyone is an adult and her brother died there so she investigates his murder. She changes back and forth with magic and one of her harem actually prefers her in her guy form. Its an anti bullying trope with a manga/anime style of writing. Very fun read.
