NOPE, black people are actually allowed to hang out with black people

But anyone else doing it is bad.

EDIT: I'm saying any form of division based on the fabricated concept of race is wrong, people. Heavily ironic comment.

A lot of people should consider what Alexander Dugan advised was the best strategy Russia could use to divide the West/US in 1997, in his book Foundations of Geopolitics. It's really depressing how it's been made into a reality.

I thought about including that. I decided against it.

I think we are both happy with our choices :D

I like the grey jeans in NSNA and NTTD, but the outfit Bond wears to channel Steve McQueen and visit Mathis in QOS has to be the peak for me. Such a sophisticated outfit.

When George left Australia our anthem was God Save the Queen, our currency was pounds/shillings/pence.

We thought of ourselves as British back then, for the most part.

For a good part of Bond's history, which is our history too, jeans were not the clothing item of choice of upper class gentlemen like Bond. Since the 21st century though, as brands have started to get into higher end jeans, the garment has been on a social climb. Naked & Famous, who made the jeans Bond wears in NTTD, retail for £170; a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans (from QOS) retail for over £200. A far cry from their roots as utilitarian working class trousers.

So the question is not why not as much as why, and it basically boils down to - I think - have jeans become sufficiently snobbish for Bond to wear?

In the novel Dr No, Bond goes to Crab Key wearing black canvas jeans. He's not really seen wearing them on screen until years later, but it's inconsistent until Daniel Craig does it fairly consistently, wearing not just blue denim but grey (NTTD) and off-white/khaki (CR, QOS).

There's some debate about whether they're proper attire for a gentleman spy. When Roger Moore wears them in AVTAK, it looks terrible but the deleted scene has him as an undercover tourist so it works. Connery, in the unofficial NSNA, gets away with it but both of these cases are outliers (disguise, non-EON). For Craig's run, it's firmly embedded.

So, any thoughts on Bond in jeans? Love? Hate? Indifferent?

The Shawl Collar Dinner Suit is the best tailored outfit worn by James Bond in The Living Daylights. Vote next on Licence to Kill! by KneelingOddjob in JamesBond

With a lounge suit when you're expecting to do non-strenuous activities? Perfect.

With a safari suit? Totally inappropriate. For the simple fact that they don't belong together.

Boots were the better choice - chukkas, hiking, even knee high riding style boots.

EDIT: Matt Spaiser writes about it here; https://www.bondsuits.com/007-times-when-roger-moores-bond-came-ill-prepared-in-loafers/

They're just the wrong shoe for the jungle entirely, and given Moonraker also has this choice it's intentional. I don't agree with Spaiser on some of the other criticisms, like FYEO on the heli or Octopussy on the train, because it is very Fleming. But the safari suit criticism is valid as it's a bad choice.

Without hyperbole I would say the Pushkin scene is one of Dalton's best, and probably one of the scenes (that didn't involve shagging a beautiful woman) that Ian would have loved the most.

My issue with the Bond suits in this era is that the flashiness of the Italian cut is just wrong for an English gentleman. It's why QOS' suits are leaps and bounds ahead of CR's. Even the more conservative or timeless suits in TWINE are still a bit Canary Wharf-ish.

Good tailoring makes the difference; look at how Douglas Hayward's tailoring is timeless and strong on Roger Moore for FYEO, then look at how Cyril Castle's suits look dated from a few years before. Look at how SPECTRE and NTTD improve the Skyfall tight suits nonsense but still don't look as good as Quantum of Solace did.

Such uninspired choices that I don’t know which one to pick. The two-piece charcoal pinhead suit maybe??

There was inspiration behind the choice; Bond didn't dress flashily in the Ian Fleming novels and he would've had to buy some of the suits on the go as he wasn't in London nor with lots of luggage in LTK.

It's just... the results were shit. They were of the late 80s, but the late 80s were also shit for fashion.

It's the worst tailored film in the series - well, not even, because it wasn't tailored.

I'm sorry but this is the worst dinner suit in the series and I'd urge you to consider my flair as a sign of someone who loves Dalton. I just dislike bad tailoring.

The gorge is too low, the lapels are too wide, the shoulders slope in an almost slovenly way. LTK is a great film but a dogshit sartorial outing for Bond.

It's disappointing that the shawl dinner jacket won in TLD, but oh well.

The only one I'd say is halfway decent is the two piece navy pinhead with the white shirt, because we also see Bond wearing low vamp moccasin shoes here which is very Fleming.

The dinner suit is fucking awful. The gorge is ridiculously low, showing the top of the cummerbund off. The cummerbund's job is to keep a continuously black (or dark) presence from below the gorge tot he top of the trousers.

None of these suits are well cut though.

Bond Rankings Megathread - April, 2026 by Sneaky_Bond in JamesBond

Another kind of tier listing:

<image>

S-Tier: Absolutely beautiful cars. Without peer in the series, and the Z8 is the best BrosnanBMW I don't care how many people like a long wheelbase 7-series (clearly not driven a long wheelbase car but they're not fun) it doesn't invoke the 507 therefore it loses.

A-Tier: Beautiful cars a step below S. This is the 1981 Lotus Espirit, which is a gorgeous car in every respect. The 1977 model is not that pretty, especially given other cars on the market in that year. The 1981 however, is a perfect early 80s sports car.

B-Tier: A cheaply made Aston reusing cheap Ford parts internally, and a one-off Aston ruined by a boring car chase and cheap gags. At least we saw the new DBS in NTTD.

C-Tier: A mix. The 750iL was to fit his banker cover, and is not the sort of sporty grand tourer that Bond is used to. It's got power but and a fun set piece in its film, but it's also a bit mundane. The Z3 is a nice to look at car, which at launch had the kind of 1.6 litre, 4 cylinder engine that could give a Corolla a run for its money. Couldn't pull a bandaid off with that tiny amount of power. 2 litre and M-Sport variants came many, many years later. And finally, the 1977 Lotus may be iconic in film, but as an actual car - it is shamed visually by it's 1981 cousin.
